  1. You are totally bitchin’, tubular, and awesome … much like Santa Cruz. I wish I still lived there … mostly because you’re going to be there, but also because it’s Santa Cruz. Enjoy!

  2. Have reviewed my opinions and pleased to announce they are not stupid bullshit I’m being shitty about. Hurrah!

Hope you have a great time in Santa Cruz, Jenny.

  3. I love that quote. Sometimes I think I should get a ton of business cards that say that, and hand them out at random points in conversation, just to keep people guessing.

  4. Argh, I’m so bitter right now. I pre-ordered (another) book, made hotel reservations, and was all set to come see you in Santa Cruz – and then the kid’s stupid soccer team had to go win a 2-weekend tournament and now we have the championship game tomorrow morning at 9 🙁 He’s bummed too, because he’s also a huge fan (though somewhat less than I am, because of that whole team/winning thing.)

Anyway, I’m sad and we’ll miss you and I hope you enjoy the weirdness that is Santa Cruz 💚 They better win this tournament, just saying.

  6. I can’t believe you are here – so close to my home town (an hour north of SC) and I won’t get to meet you! Santa Cruz was the beach holiday my best friend and I took when we would play hookey from school. Do people still even call it that? Gosh, I’m old! Just know you are one of my favorite writers, and you will be in one of my fav places, and I wish I was there w you!

  7. You know, the quote is great and easily stands on it’s own, but you might grab a big more attention if you used an actual image of bullshit in the background. You’d have to read it; it wouldn’t even be a choice. Just a suggestion…

  8. You’re going to be in Pah-sah-den-ah (!) on Sunday, and I’m gonna try to be there, too! If I print out your whale doodle and color it, will you sign it? If I print it out, color it, and then copy that to an iron-on transfer and wear it to the event on a t-shirt, will you sign THAT? Will you sign my face, if I don’t do any of those things? Just kidding; I wouldn’t be able to work in film and television with your autograph on my face.

I’m just so excited that I might actually finally get to be weird in the presence of your royal weirdness and all the others like me who love you for loving all our weirdness. I promise to only be weird. I won’t be shitty about my bullshit opinions. At least not on Sunday.

  10. AARGH! I’ve been waiting for you to come to the Bay Area, and I’m out of town this weekend!

  11. You’re here, you’re here, you’re really, really here! How am I supposed to focus on work (or anything else for that matter) knowing I get to see you tonight. Oooh, oooh, we love you so much the rain came yesterday in your honor. Sooper excited!!!!!

  12. Jenny, you are the bravest person I know. Keep being yourself and doing what you do. And if you’re ever in Bryan/College Station please come to dinner. PS-LOVE your doodles.

  13. While you are in LA, try to check out the re-opened Clifton’s Cafeteria. Lots of really weird old taxidermy there.

  14. I really wanted to come see you tonight – Furiously Happy has been a fine counterpart to the other book i’m currently reading . . .”The Dog Cancer Survival Guide”. I don’t recommend reading it at the vets office tho, people will/might (have) point(ed) and stare(d).
Alas, my boy had chemo wednesday and today is a rough day for him – i can’t leave him to come over the hill – but i will be there in spirit, another fine soul will get my chair, and you’ll just have to write another book (and tour). ok? it’s all good then. thank you 🙂

  15. Aw Santa Cruz! I spent many a night (and some days) on the beach as a teenager there drinking Boones Farm and Old English. Sneaking liquor onto the Boardwalk….yacking on the Giant Dipper…good times!

  16. I’m sure this tour is amazing in many ways. But I find myself counting down for you until you get to go home and watch tv on your couch with your family. Because that’s what I’m doing, and I know you miss it! So I hope you enjoy what’s left, and you feel proud of yourself for making it through it, which you almost have!

  17. I can practically see my house from Vroman’s in Pasadena (a fabulous independent bookstore that has been around forever) where you are going to be on Sunday! I’m so excited! I’m going to take my goats to get their photo taken with Santa tomorrow and then see you on Sunday and it’s really almost more than I can deal with in one weekend – the mixture of excitement and sheer terror is … well, it’s a mix of excitement and sheer terror.

  18. Hi Jenny, I was at Santa Cruz tonight and I so wanted to meet you, but I had a little ‘moment’ and fled home instead. I had bought my transvestite weasel, Joaquin to show you and hoped I’d be able to have you sign his undercrackers. Despite not being able to do that, he became quite the celebrity, people’s even asked for him to be in their group photos!

To have someone stand up and talk so openly about mental illness his me so hard in the feels that I choke up.

Anyway, I’m a huge fan and I thank you from the bottom of my heart for saying what you do.

  19. PLEASE come to Vancouver BC …if you come I promise to bring you something special. What are the size limits on taxidermy, take-home luggage-wise?

  20. Seriously? I read this today… not yesterday? Bummerooski! Isn’t Bookstore Santa Cruz the best bookstore you’ve ever been in? Hope you have time to check out some trails and hang out a bit on the beach.

  21. It was a pleasure seeing yo last night. That was the best book signing EVER!!! You are one pretty witty lady. Sally says thank you too.

  22. I came to see you and I bought my taxidermy service weasel, Joaquin, with me!

I wanted to get an autograph on his undercrackers, but got a bit anxious and fled……

  23. Dear Jenny,
I can’t thank you enough for coming to Bookshop Santa Cruz last night. Everything was awesome! I’m so happy I finally got a chance to meet you! Meeting your sister and your publicist was an extra cool bonus! You are just as funny and smart and sensitive and kind and did I say FUNNY as I thought you’d be! I love exclamation points! Safe travels, Jenny. I hope our paths cross again.
    Love,
    George

  24. It was so great to meet you, Jenny, although I am sad that I had car trouble at the start of my 4+ hour trip to Santa Cruz and literally walked in as you were finishing speaking. I heard you were (unsurprisingly) amazing.

On behalf of those of us who missed the awesome, especially choo, whose pup had chemo (so sorry, choo, and may I recommend “Sighthound” by Pam Houston?), catblossom, whose child had soccer championships, me with my crappy car karma, and anyone else, could someone of the many who videoed Jenny’s talk possibly post video to YouTube? With your permission, of course, Jenny. I’ll gladly send you more chocolate bacon if you provide a link. But not a billboard.

Hell, why haven’t you done a TED tallk yet, anyway?

  25. Ok, I love you more after meeting you last night. I stumbled upon your books at a point in my life that I really needed your humor. Thank you. If you ever want to hide under a table and cry I am down for that.
    Thank you! You are delightful!

  26. So today I had an absolutely craptastic day, everyone who was supposed to help me with the great goats-visiting-Santa expedition flaked out – I probably could have handled the goats on my own but the whole enterprise was supposed to be about a bunch of people having fun and then no one wanted to go – and the only thing keeping me from breaking down in tears is that you are coming to Pasadena tomorrow. You might even be here now, hopefully in a very nice hotel and having a relaxing evening. You should visit the Altadena Ale House, because it’s a bar full of socially awkward rocket scientists from JPL, so it’s like a mashup of “Cheers” and “The Big Bang Theory”.

  27. Love a grandmother who isn’t afraid to tell her grandkids they’re being shitty. If more did this the world would be a different place.

  28. Dammit, I missed all three Bay Area appearances! So now I have to, what, wait for your next book? In my defense, I haven’t had any electricity since Nov. 22, and as such, no internet to keep up on the dates…

  29. That’s where my heart is!! From now on I will fervently watch your next tour! Maybe I’ll get to come next time! ❤️ Thank you for your wild sense of humor, I love every delicious ounce of it! Sending love and hugs ❤️
