Where’s Rory? (UPDATED)

So.  Next month my new book comes out and if you read here often enough you’re already familiar with Rory, the gloriously ecstatic and somewhat terrifying taxidermied road-kill raccoon who graces the cover.

furiously happy

When you read the book you’ll learn all about Rory, and also more about how my anxiety disorder makes it hard to leave the house at times.  These things seem unrelated but when my publisher first started making cardboard standees to send to book sellers I mentioned how nice it was that all of these cardboard raccoons were traveling so bravely around the world as my stand-in.

Next month I’ll start traveling for months (off and on) during my book tour but I already know from my first tour that I’m not really strong enough to see anything of the cities that I’ll travel to, except for the blanket fort I’ll make in my hotel room and the wonderful people who’ll come to bookstores to listen to me read.  It probably seems like a waste of travel to the average person but I know that I don’t have the physical or mental stamina to see the sites or landmarks.  And that’s a little sad, but it’s also sort of wonderful to finally acknowledge my limits and recognize them and to not push myself past them…to know that taking care of myself is more important than seeing the world.

But when I first saw the cardboard Rory raccoons being made I thought of the traveling gnome prank (the practice of stealing a garden gnome and sending postcards and pictures of the gnome traveling the world to the owner) and thought how lovely it would be if some of these Rorys could travel around the world and see all of the amazing things that so many of us never see.  And my publisher (who is strange enough to agree to put a dead raccoon on the cover of a book) agreed completely and sent me a lovely cardboard Rory.  I photographed him all around the house.

With my pets:

wheresrorypets
Ferris Mewler, Hunter S. Thomcat, Dorothy Barker and Rory.

With Beyoncé:

Knock knock, motherfucker.
Knock knock, motherfucker.

With James Garfield:

whereroryjamesgarfield

And even with the original Rory:

"SURPRISE!"
“SURPRISE!”

Then my friend Laura took Rory with her on a few weeks of travel.  He was with her at Blogher, and she texted me pictures of old friends with Rory as I sat at home and suddenly felt so much less lonely than I had before.

Do you know these people? You should.
Do you know these people? You should.

Then came pictures of him in New York.

If a dead raccoon can make it here he can make it anywhere. I'm paraphrasing.
If a dead raccoon can make it here he can make it anywhere. I’m paraphrasing.

And then he was jetted off to the beach.

No sunscreen needed.
No sunscreen needed.

And he joined in on a family vacation.

"High-five, Walt."
“High-five, Walt.”

And each time a picture would come in I’d feel like I was there.  And I’d share the picture with Hailey and Victor and we’d all laugh at the ridiculous wonder of a small raccoon seeing the world.  And Laura would tell me hysterical stories of people she’d met because they were so intrigued with this bizarre, ecstatic cardboard raccoon who was lounging on beach chairs, or riding on ferris wheels, or watching a Broadway play.

And it was lovely.

We haven’t even started and already I’m thrilled.  But let’s keep going.  Do you have someplace you think Rory needs to see?  Do you want to take him with you to see a landmark, share a photo of him and then pass him on to someone else who can photograph him in another new place?  The Eiffel Tower?  The world’s largest ball of twine?  Horseback riding?  Being hugged by sloths?  Balancing on the head of your great-grandmother?  Just leave me a comment (with your email so I can contact you) and I’ll send dozens of Rorys into the world so we can see what happens.

I’ll be updating this post with new pictures as they come in, and sharing them online using the #WheresRory hashtag.  I hope you’ll enjoy vicariously seeing the world through the eyes of a tiny, couch-surfing, furiously happy raccoon as much as I do.

PS. If you simply can’t wait for someone to mail you a Rory you can make one yourself.  Just click here, print the pdf, glue it on something stiff and cut it out.  BOOM.  You’re in business.  Or you can buy a hard-plastic photo-sculpture here.  You can share links and pictures in the comment section and I’ll update it as Rory travels.

PPS.  Thank you.  This is ridiculous and I know that but I also know that you people are magic with ridiculousness, and that instead of judging me you’re more likely to take this someplace I’d never imagine.  You are made of stardust.  Thank you.

UPDATED:  GO LOOK AT THESE PICTURES, Y’ALL.

Read comments below or add one.

  1. I would take Rory to visit the Nittany Lion statue–the most famous thing in my town/paragon of Big Ten football madness at Penn State University–and I hate football.

  2. maine is full of lobsters fighting racoons. the latter could use some reinforcements.

  3. I would love to take Rory to my neighborhood hang out! Not exotic but he would have a great time. and he would make this introvert meet new people which is always a good thing.

  4. Rory needs to come to my cousin’s wedding in Quebec City later this month. Please? I don’t have a date, and Rory definitely needs to visit the Great White North.

  5. Rory: So this is it?
Simone: What’s wrong with the couch?
Rory: Nothing, I guess. But aren’t you sick of watching reruns of Charmed?
Simone: Clearly, you don’t know what makes me furiously happy.

  6. I’m going to the Mediterranean in September. 🙂 Athens, Santorini, Crete, Rhodes, Istanbul, cruising on a giant yacht… I think it would be great fun to take along Rory!

  7. Rory needs to come enjoy the “fun” of teacher inservice week. :). And Florida.

  8. I think Rory needs to see Plymouth Ma – the Mayflower & Pilgrim Rock. Im just the person to take him there.

  9. I travel with Animal (of the mullet variety) and shoot him everywhere I go. I’d love to bring Roy along (all over Colorado, wherever my driving takes me is where I would bring Rory…he can be Animal’s traveling companion. Animal was getting lonely I think).

  10. Yes! Oh, please, please, please! I am getting together with about 20 of the women from the Saint James Garfield Facebook group next weekend (leaving on the 13th) and will be in Washington, DC. I would love to take him around with us and show him the sites and let you see how your crazy Christmas give-a-thon has turned into some wonderful, wonderful friendships.

  11. Rory needs to come to Baltimore to see Inner Harbor and other amazing sights!

  12. I will show him the town of Weiner, AR! Maybe even Goobertown, Possum Grape, Bald Knob, Toadsuck and Smackover! (We have a lot of towns with ridiculous names. I once lived in Frog Jump, TN.)

We have no amazing sights to offer, unless he’s a fan of The Heifer Project. But Rory would be a most welcome guest in the Arkansas. I would probably force the priests to be photographed with him as well.

Can I get him drunk as long as I don’t get him wet?

  13. Rory totally needs to drink Hurricanes and protect me from creepy graveyards and voodoo curses in New Orleans. He can even ride shotgun.

  14. Currently on a six month long road trip with my husband. I’ll be happy to take Rory along. We left our usual jackelope mascot at home this trip. Just not the same without something ridiculous to take pictures with… administrator@hauntedplaces.org

  15. Roy will be coming to our book club meeting next Tuesday. We are going to.play Cards Against Humanity.

  16. I work at a disco club… I think Rory needs to come and get his groove on. I would even make him a mini Afro and bellbottoms.

  17. This is adorable! I would take Rory to my favorite winery for Friday night music, my 30th birthday and our upcoming family vacation!

  18. As someone who worked in book marketing for many years, I can understand the value of crowd-sourced ridiculousness. Especially when it goes viral. Unless it’s an actual raccoon that goes viral, which conjures up images of rapid movements, biting, and spontaneous bouts of raccoon diarrhea.

  19. Oh I think he should come with me to my Connecticut granddaughter’s Labor Day (funny, my daughter did not enjoy the irony) 7th birthday party… We are all nuts on my side of her family tree, so I’m sure Rory would enjoy taking part in the shenanigans. Also, too, the mom (my kid) of the 7 year old almost turned herself inside out laughing at your last book.

  20. We are going on a Disney Cruise in January. Plus I can take him to the world’s largest basket.

  21. I’m hoping to print out Rory and take him around work (aka the solar system).

That said, “glue it on something stiff”? Like, isn’t Rory a little stiff already? 😉

  22. I’m stupid. I shall happily take him to the Med… this time with an email address. 🙂

  23. I live within driving distance of the world’s largest ball of twine. No kidding. I’d love to make my 15-y.o. son take a short road trip with me before school starts in order to take Rory there. It would beat the hell out of facing my next major rewrite.

  24. Hi Jenny,
My husband’s name is Rory and I would love Rory to meet Rory. Rory’s totally invited to come to our home town, Salmon Arm (yes that is the name I’m totally NOT making that up. I promise he will have a lot of fun. We have the hugest mountains here and I will take a picture of Rory on top of one of them looking at Salmon Arm. He will feel right at home because my Rory is very furry, just like yours ( but don’t tell him I told you that).

  25. I once lugged a 3 foot corporate trophy around town to photograph it in front of the Beer Can House, giant president heads, and a cop car (among other locales). Doing this with Rory will be even more fun! I am totally in.

  26. Oh! I’m volunteering at The Walker Stalker Convention (A Walking Dead themed convention, but there will also be actors from Lost! And Gremlins! And Breaking Bad!) in Boston in just a few weeks. It’ll be my first time in Boston, so Rory and I can explore together. And by “explore”, I mean pose with zombie cosplayers in a convention center. As one does.

  27. YES! I can be a bit of a hermit, but I promise to take Rory out & about in Vancouver, BC. At the very least, he will be photographed in my garden with roses, hummingbirds & Terriers!

  28. I may need Rory’s help when I get my knee scoped next week. I think he’d love the OR.

  29. I would take Rory to the USS Batfish! The only ww2 submarine in oklahoma. It’s in the middle of a wheat field. What? Texas has is the only place with weird crap?
We also have a “medieval” cinder block castle.
I’m sure there are some other interesting places we can take him!

  30. I’d love to take Rory with me to the Gold Coast and into the hinterland rainforest with me in September. Plus to just hang out by the pool drinking cocktails!
    Fivefrogsblog@gmail.com
    Xxxx

  31. Printer-less here as well (yay, vacation!), but would be happy to take him around Minnesota when we get home … not as cool as scaring a moose in Rocky Mountain National Park, but still kind of cool. Maybe?

  32. I would be happy to take him around Chatlottesville, VA. I would even take him to Monticello and UVA.

  33. Oh, Jenny. I can’t resist. Please allow me to take Rory on a winery tour here in Napa. In fact, Rory can meet some of Napa’s most fanciest people and then encourage Napa tourism (post-earthquake, no less; it’s almost its year anniversary!). Someday we’ll drink wine together here ourselves, but until you get that break…

  34. I’m something of a recluse myself, but I would take Rory to see the sights of my city. (Cincinnati)

  35. I’m fairly confident Rory needs to ride with my son in his play day (horseback riding). He loves showing new people the ropes.

  36. Relocating my household across several states – Rory would dig the chaos of traveling with a large rambunctious Labrador, an active 6 year old, and unimpressed cats. 😀 Think he’d be any good at packing the truck? No worries, he can supervise if not…

  37. Rory needs to come to Sydney, Australia. You need to come back too Jenny! It would be so fantastic for you to do a book tour here!

  38. This would be totally fun! Rory can drink bourbon with us in Kentucky!

  39. Oh I’m totally printing up my own Rory and he’s going to visit TO!! I’ll take him to see the TORONTO sign too! Stay tuned!

  40. I’d take Rory to Devil’s Tower. I bet he’d love the wide, open, emptiness of Wyoming….I sure do!

  41. I’m down to take Rory to the Biggest Ball of Twine in Minnesota, the giant spoon at the sculpture garden AND lots and lots of breweries and taprooms in Minneapolis-St Paul.

  42. Over the next few months I’m heading to Munich, Rome, NZ and Australia (summer Christmas!) and would LOVE to take Rory with me!

  43. This is such a great idea. I can take Rory exploring in Northeast Ohio! (I promise, there are lots of great things to see here!) 🙂

  44. Please send Rory to Maine, he needs to see Acadia national park and I’m just the person to show it to him 🙂

  45. I too have terrible anxiety but occasionally am able to travel and will be doing do in the next few months. I would love to take Rory with me, to Portland and LA, to a concert and Disneyland and some of my favorite places.

  46. He definitely needs to be our side kick for the last four weeks of summer. I see a seven year old and a bat cave in his future!!!

  47. My son gets a kick outta this Racoon, I know he would love to have one to take EVERYWHERE with him! 🙂 Besides, a day in the life of a 4-year-old would be a great experience for Rory! lol!
    E-Mail is chelsie.eighty8@hotmail.com

  48. Rory must come here and see the St. Louis Arch!! As well as all the other wonders here.

  49. I’ll see your giant metal chicken, and I’ll raise you a taxidermied Alaskan grizzly bear. Hell, I’m gonna go make my own Rory right now so he can immediately begin his Alaskan adventures!! Love and thanks from Chugiak, which is a half hour north of Anchorage (obviously).

  50. Oh please send Rory here to Louisiana! My husband and I just moved back to the USA after our expat adventures. We moved to small town Louisiana and are exploring as much as we can. It’s way more interesting than we thought it would be. Adjusting to life back in the USA is harder than I thought it would be and super lonely sometimes and I think having Rory would be a great help. Especially for me, hubby gets to go to work, I’m home alone and sometimes it’s hard to leave the house. I think a little friend could be just what I need. I promise to keep him safe from alligators. Although a swamp tour and gator farm are on the to-do list.

  51. I’m going on a cruise next month and I have been searching for a suitable sidekick (other than Mom of course). I think Rory shows the proper amount of enthusiasm needed for a Caribbean vacation, copious amounts of alcohol and awesome sidekickery shenanigans.

  52. Send Rory to Alaska and he can go halibut fishing! And possibly some hiking, but only with bear spray because the Bears will not be amused by an ecstatic raccoon. Trust me on this one.

  53. We are heading to Italy in September! I’m sure Rory would love to see the Coliseum, ride in a gondola, climb the Dolomites, eat pasta (ok, that could get messy). POMPEII! He’d be awesome in Pompeii! And Italians would be reassured that yes Americans are in fact insane.

  54. Omg, Rory needs to see the Rocky statue in Philly, and then whatever majestic sights I encounter as I travel to NYC for your book singing. And probably also the Liberty Bell. And maybe Sesame Place. I bet Rory would freak the Muppets right the hell out.

    Yes. This needs to happen.

    Jenn.disanto@gmail.com

  55. I think Rory needs to ride along to Mackinac City in mid-September, for a 25 mile ride on a recumbent trike Saturday the 20th, and pedaling across the Mackinac Bridge Sunday morning. You game, Rory??

  56. I’m going to Costa Rica at the end of September. I’d love to take him.

  57. I don’t have a colour printer, so I’d be rockin’ a mini-old timey Rory. But if you send him to me, I live in Victoria and am travelling to Vancouver in a couple of weeks. Then I get onboard the Disney Wonder and I’ll be at Juneau, Ketchikan, and Skagway.

That’s a lot of places! And I can pose him near the Terry Fox statue too (in two cities no less!). Pick me pick me!!!

  58. I live in Portland,Oregon. I’m driving the van for a team of runners for Hood to Coast at the end of this month, and Rory needs to live it up on an almost 200 mile trip with smelly runners.

  59. Please, please, please send me one! I’m pretty sure my adventure to France won’t be complete without Rory!

  60. Jenny this is only just the BEST IDEA EVER. I’m printing a Rory and taking him to see Spamalot in Hackensack, where my art will also be on public display for the first time EVER. Art that you are pretty much directly responsible for, btw. Somebody remind me to tell Jenny the story someday. 🙂

  61. I’m not far from the Poconos. In addition to the beauty of Bushkill Falls and the Delaware Water Gap, I can take Rory on not one but two brewery tours complete with copious samples of craft beers. I promise you I won’t mind taking the time to go beer tasting with Rory. 🍺

  62. I love your work, and this seems like an awesome idea! Kudos to you for owning yourself and knowing what you DONT have to put yourself through, I would love a Rory and would totally send pix,
    Great idea, Rakhel
    Sheepietime@gmail.com

  63. Oh, my, I want a Rory! I’m going to Prague next month, and I’d say I could photograph him with me around Boston too, but somehow going out in Prague is so much less intimidating than going out in my own city, so that really wouldn’t happen–he can have pictures on my couch with Nigel, my giraffe, though.

  64. Rory needs to see the House on the Rock with me. And possibly my puggle

  65. Rory would love to see a lighthouse on the coast of Maine. I’ll even print pics out of him and bring them to you in Boston (Like I did with my BFF and our fake Jenny Lawson head.)

  66. I was just at the Gopher Hole Museum in Torrington, Alberta (http://gopherholemuseum.ca/) and I would go back just to bring Rory. What better place for Rory to go than a one-room school house converted into a museum with dozens of small dioramas depicting various scenes with the assistance of farmer-provided taxidermied gophers?

  67. I live in Los Angeles, so I have a plethora (note my use of s SAT word to make myself sound smart and important) of places I could take him. Except Griffith Park because I am originally from Florida and I do not do mountains because mountains do not come with guard rails and easy-to-ascend stairs. Personally, I see Rory hanging with Felicity Huffman’s and William H. Macy’s stars on the Walk of Fame, eating pie at Mel’s Diner and waiting in line to see an @midnight taping.

  68. I currently live in Saudi (on a work assignment). I would happily take Rory around the Middle East with me!

  69. Oooh send him to vienna! I’ll bring him on a roadtrip to the weird places i love here (including a super old haunted loiking farmhouse)
also i could use him as an excuse for a trip to salzburg and i’ll get a picture of him in the rolling hills singing “the hiiilllllsss are aliiiiive, with the sound of rooooorrrryyyyy”

  70. I was sad to see you weren’t making a San Diego stop this time around (I was fortunate and privileged to host you at a B&N signing here when the first book came out in paperback), and would love to send you pictures of Rory enjoying sunny San Diego. Hiking Kwaay Paay and Cowles Mountain, checking out an SDSU Aztecs football game, visiting with relatives on campus at SDSU (TONS of raccoons!), sipping drinks on the beach. I’m not sure if I’ll make it to the LA signing, but I’ll be there in spirit. Can’t wait for the new book!!! jonnyliterati@gmail.com

  71. We’ll see if Rory gets lucky at the casinos in Atlantic City next week!

  72. Rory needs to see Amish Country and Cedar Point in Ohio. I’m also traveling a shitton in the next few months and I want to scare the TSA with him in my bag, I may pair him with my screaming pumpkin that protects my camera gear. email is corey@coreyann.com 🙂

  73. I’m pretty certain that Rory needs to come to Seattle and visit with our bridge troll. I feel like he should also be worked in as a GISHWHES (https://gishwhes.com/) scavenger hunt item – because what kind of international scavenger hunt is complete without a taxidermied raccoon!

  74. I also rarely leave my house, so if Rory came here, he’d end up sitting on the couch with me. Not much of a vacation.

  75. Every raccoon should have the chance to have his picture taken with what is arguably Kentuckys favorite tourist spot, the famous “Florence Y’all” water tower. It used to be “Florence Mall” but apparently that wasn’t allowed so rather than paint over everything they just changed Mall to Y’all. Because that’s totally legit in Kentucky.

  76. I’m a belly dancer and I think Rory needs his picture taken with as many belly dancers as possible. I can make that happen.

  77. I travel for work constantly, especially this time of year. August-November is so stressful. It would be awesome to have Rory as my traveling companion! The crazy stuff I could show him!

  78. I think my sister needs a wedding planner… I nominate Rory! First stop… wedding dress shopping in California!

  79. Rory needs to see Allerton Park, the gem of East Central Illinois and meet the famous Sunsinger, and I am just the gal to take him there!! Please send me a Rory, I don’t have a printer and he and I will embark on a most amazing journey at Allerton Park just outside of Monticello, ILL My email is mfinson63@gmail.com

  80. I don’t know that I have anywhere Rory needs to see but I’m pretty positive I need Rory to help me explore my new home, 1600 miles away from…..everything. Also why are blanket forts so comforting? Someone should do a study on this. I’d make government grant funded forts all day long…for the greater good, of course

  81. I would love to take Rory with me on my travels to New Orleans this fall and of course Universal Studios & Disneyland early next year. Of course he will come with me when we see you in December.

  82. So I live in Berlin, one of the capitals of crazy, but in the good way crazy, like all of us here… Anyway. Berlin has lots of spots where I am sure people would join a spontaneous racoon party if I started one. So I’d love to have a cardboard wanderer to make mayhem here in good old Germany – what do you say?

  83. I’m visiting Toronto in 2 weeks with my sisters, daughter and nieces. We’d love Rory to accompany us to Castle Loma, the ROM, CN Tower, the Andy Warhol exhibit, the Pompeii exhibit…

  84. If you would like to send me a Rory I could show him around Madison Wisconsin. He would love the Capitol and State Street and the terrace at the university. And I promise to take them with me next time I go to Milwaukee to visit my family. I would definitely take them to the Safehouse, which is one of the awesome at places in the world. We can visit the spies and I promise we’ll visit Burt Reynolds in the ladies room. Yes that last sentence is true. Oh and he can definitely come with us to check out the Packer game this season. Warlockshevari@yahoo.com. And if that is an awesome enough for you I have friends in Japan who might be willing to take him for a tour.

  85. I think Rory should climb a Colorado 14er!! Talk about beautiful views for him to see…

  86. I’m heading to the Peach Music Festival in Scranton PA next week. I think the peach needs a Rory! He can jam out with us, join us in the water park, visit Dunder Mifflin and maybe even go zip lining with me!

  87. I’d like to take Rory to Seneca Falls, NY, birthplace of women’s rights and home to Women’s Rights National Historical Park. I think he needs a selfie with Elizabeth Cady Stanton. Also, he can stop by Taughannock Falls, the highest falls in the Northeast (33 feet taller than Niagra Falls!).

  88. Rory needs some astronaut training at the Space and Rocket Center. Send to me and I’ll hook him up!

  89. I travel for work sometimes. There’s talk of upcoming trips to San Francisco and maybe even Paris (I’m dubious, but still holding out hope). I also have a trip “planned” (dates aren’t locked in yet) to Chicago and then Harry Potter Land (that’s not what it’s really called) in Orlando for later in the year. Also Rory can just hang with me in Austin. I’ll take him to see a movie at the Paramount and we can go sunning at Barton Springs.

Too bad Rory wasn’t with me sooner, or else I would have taken him to 9 cities in 8 countries as part of my European vacation earlier this summer. Anyone have a Delorean? We can make this happen.

  90. I’m going to the Peach Music festival in Scranton PA next week. I think Rory need to come. He can jam out with us, visit Dunder Mifflin and maybe even go zip lining with me!

  91. I live in a tiny town in Tennessee but will be traveling to a doll convention near Boston in October. Perhaps Rory needs to experience crazy doll collectors in large groups. 😀

  92. Ooh! Does Rory have any dates lined up to visit the largest mall in America! If not, I would love to show him The Mall of America in Minnesota! The Minnesota State Fair is coming up and he could come with and go down the big slide, ride on midway rides, and eat lots of food on a stick. Send him to me and I’ll show him a true mid-western good time, dontcha know!

  93. We’re going to Cedar Point at the end of this month and I would love to take Rory with us!

  94. Hook me up! I work at a newspaper and Rory can be my intern/visit the US Coast Guard Academy in New London, CT, and/or the spectacular (ahem) Block Island Ferry! Oh, and I can take him to Yale in New Haven! He looks quite bright, after all.

  95. This is a great idea!!!! I have a therapy cat named Raul and we could take Rory on our adventures when we go to schools and other kid related events. The cool tie in here would be that I can bring it with me when I go to some of the places that I volunteer at with Raul and Rory can be his friend.A lot of the kids I work with have self esteem issues, social anxiety, and a large variety or other things going on. Mostly all of them struggle with making friends and fitting in which is why they have visits with Raul because he gives them an in to a conversation and he helps make them feel important and worthwhile which is something a lot of them don’t get. I could tell the kids about Rory who is helping out his friend who is kind of shy in social situations (or relate it to their specific issue) and that Rory is going on adventures for her. I can talk all about how awesome you are and how people would love to know you but you struggle a little meeting people. Then the kids, Raul and I can take Rory around and practice introducing him to other people or even just get him and the other kids out there interacting or even just near groups of people and cool places around the school. So really it’s like a full circle because essentially you would be using your powers to help other kids just like you to feel more confident and secure in social situations. It’s a win all around!

  96. I live in Las Vegas, so Rory & I will have a grand time seeing all the sights. I promise not to let him gamble his life savings away, though. Also, I have a cat named Rory that needs his picture taken with a raccoon named Rory. He just doesn’t know it yet.

  97. I would love for Rory to go with me to Nashville in October. My sister and I are going to be in a choir that is performing on the Dove Awards (like the Grammys for Christian music). He might even get to meet some celebraties!

  98. I am SO going to take Rory to the World’s Largest Ball of Twine and maybe even the Garden of Eden – they are two of my most favorite places 🙂

  99. So fun, Jenny! I can’t think of anywhere interesting I’ll be anytime soon except a water park in a couple weeks but I don’t think cardboard Rory is waterproof. ? Maybe he needs a lifeproof case. 🙂

  100. Aww, man. I was disappointed not to see Buffalo, NY on your tour list. Meeting you might have given me the motivation to leap the fear hurdle of leaving the house. Maybe a visit from Rory could do the trick! He needs to see the Erie County Fair! 😀

  101. My husband and I live in the Green Bay, WI area and we’d love to take Rory to Lambeau Field!

  102. Oh please Rory me! I’ll show him around Boston on my bicycle, out to the outer Cape (including some fabulous dress up in PTown), and up to the top of a mountain in Vermont. Oh, and he can go for a ride on my motorcycle. He’ll scout everything out for you, and help me not feel so lonely when there are people surrounding me…city life is so not my thing, and Rory could totally help me! Please please please Rory me!

  103. i would love to take a silly smiley raccoon on all my work travel adventures!

  104. Rory needs to see the wonders of Wisconsin. And he needs a steady diet of cheese (and maybe beer) to keep him so furiously happy. I can provide all of these things in spades.

  105. I will take Rory rock climbing with me here in Colorado- It would work better if I had a stuffed version because sometimes I get scared and would like to squeeze a stuffed animal, but the cardboard version will do. im not sure how this will be explained to my husband who already complains I bring too much stuff…but I think after a day climbing with Rory he’ll see the light!

Also! I live super close to the Denver bookstore you’ll be at, so if need be, I can show you appropriate places to hide to get away.

    Email is suzrocks.com@gmail.com

  106. Rory told me he wants to go to Oregan with me.

    Pretty please 🌲🍃💧

  107. Please let Rory visit Metropolis! I’ll take him to visit Superman, Lois Lane and the Bird Man of Alcatraz to start. It will be so much fun!

  108. Rory needs to come graduate college with me! It’s taken me 22 years to finally be able to do it, so he would probably have a good time!

  109. I’d love to take him with me on our upcoming travels – we’re going fishing in the Wind Rivers (Wyoming), then to Steamboat (Colorado), then taking a road trip from Portland to San Francisco down the 1. And while he’s home he can help stucco the house.

    Girl@KittenThunder.com

  110. I’m going on a trip to the UK next month. If Rory is lucky, he can fly the TARDIS with me at the Doctor Who Experience!

  111. I live in San Diego, but frequently travel to North Hollywood, downtown LA, and other fun/weird places in the distance between SD and LA. Plus, I’m about to take my first trip back to Texas after moving to California. I’ll be going to Dallas and my hometown nearby, and both of my plane rides have layovers. I’m doing exposure therapy for my anxiety, and having Rory along seems like a good way to help me step out of my comfort zone and experience some things I might choose to avoid (I don’t have severe social anxiety, just mild… although my anxiety in general is incredibly high, as well as my depression. I’m fighting, too, and you inspire me). E-mail me at beebutlermusic@gmail.com if you can!

  112. i live in London, UK – I could show him the sights here! Also I’m going to Hong Kong and Tokyo in November if you still want pictures then? I’m mail at stahl dot cx

  113. I would take Rory to see alligators and also to see ACORN Clinic (a non-profit clinic for dental and medical care in a rural area of North Central Florida)!

  114. I would love to show Rory the sights here in DC for you! So many monuments, neighborhoods, and randomly ridiculous things here in our strange nation’s capital.

And I am so very much looking forward to your stop in DC at Politics and Prose (awesome local book store) 😀

  115. Yes please. Rory needs to ride the ferry and meet the orcas. thebewilderness @ yahoo.com

  116. I am SOOOO in! I will be going to a meeting of my Sweet Potato Queens chapter next week and he can be surrounded by rhinestones, tiaras, and other fabulousness! And then I will take him to see all the other not-too-terribly-exciting-but-otherwise-lovable sites in my area! What fun! Like Flat Stanley, only happier…and probably completely ok with being photographed in a bar.

  117. I wanted to take Rory to the World’s Largest Horseshoe Crab that was in my hometown, but it isn’t there anymore 🙁

  118. I think Rory needs to come to Scotland! Perhaps he would like to see Edinburgh Castle? Or try some whisky? It’s been known to make people furiously happy, maybe it’ll have the same effect on a raccoon!

  119. Already printed Rory so he can come camping with us in PA tomorrow. He can go kayaking, roast marshmallows, and come to Knoebels Amusement Park and try to get the brass ring on the antique carousel.

  120. I’d like to second Rory’s appearance at the Saint James Garfield gathering in Virginia next weekend. We’re having a dessert making contest – Rory can judge!

  121. I’m going on a cruise to Orlando and the Bahamas at the end of the month to celebrate my 40th birthday (which was yesterday). Something tells me Rory would love to go on a cruise ship!

It’s just too bad your book comes out after our cruise is over or I’d bring your book with me to read on the ship.

  122. I’d be happy to take Rory around North Florida. Would he like to see a football game, visit a huge sinkhole, or maybe even go to school? I can show him the sights, then send him on his way. South Florida, Alabama, Atlanta, or maybe, just maybe, Hong Kong or England are all possibilities.

  123. I would love to show Rory around New Orleans and if he gets here before September 18th he can attend the DC wedding I’m going to! (jennacp@gmail.com)

  124. Do you want a photo of Rory with Maman, at National Gallery of Canada? (I can do biring stuff like Parliament here in Ottawa… We just got back from Roanake VA, if you want him “digitally” added to the world’s largest illuminated Star, I might be able to make it happen.

  125. I would love to take pics with Rory!! Please send me one! I’m a special ed teacher in high school and I’m sure my students would come up with something creative!!
I want to take Rory on many adventures!!
    arvest09@gmail.com

  126. I’m in Japan and i think Rory needs experience conveyor belt sushi, and you know fabulous oceans, shrines, temples, and 2nd largest dance festival in the world Awa Odori!

  127. I would love to take Rory to my mother’s 80th bday family party and to work here in Minnesota! He would love it here amidst the lakes and he could also go to the State Fair and enjoy some food on a stick!

  128. This is exactly my kind of project. I once took a monkey puppet on vacation and photographed him through all sorts of shenanigans. I live in Los Angeles, there are soooo many landmarks, random attractions, and hidden weirdness that I might have enough pics for a book by the time I’m done. This project will also help distract my husband as he deals with the fallout of his mother’s death and his father’s asshattery. CassieSteger@gmail.com

  129. I live in Utah. We have 5 national parks. I think I could get Rory to one or two. I could also get him up in to the glorious Wasatch mountains and possible in to a left over Olympic skating ring! Or send him to school with my 14 year old!! If my two year old doesn’t gnaw on him first….

  130. Oh please, let me have a Rory. He would see Northeast Ohio in a new way. He would go to work with me at the Main Library in Akron, answer reference questions, and pose with the patrons. He’d love it. He would fit right in with whatever science display we will have that week.

He would also help me entertain a grandchild while we babysit, go to the zoo, to a children’s amusement park, a movie, throw rocks in a creek, play in a cool playground, go bird watching, and finally get to go on vacation – possibly to New England in September. Then, because he will be all worn out, he will accompany me to a place in New York state for a quiet, restful retreat, and get to meet Fr. Jerome, who will probably give him some spiritual direction. There are other raccoons there, but I would be careful to keep him from meeting them up close.

Oh, it would be such a fulfilling time for him. Consider me. Or, I will just be forced to use glue and scissors to make my own. And if you’ve ever seen me craft, you would know that it would not be pretty.

  131. Rory needs to see the Oregon Coast!
I can take him to see a shipwreck. I can take him to the Astoria Column which is like the leaning tower of Pisa…only it’s not leaning. But it currently looks like it’s wearing a condom (long story). Oh…there’s even a strip club here (if he’s into that kinda thing.)
Anyway…we’ll show Rory a good time.

  132. Oh! Pick me! 🙂
I live in the San Francisco Bay area and would love to take Rory around! We regularly visit all kinds of places (urban to outdoors) and are planning a trip to Spain and Portugal. Come join us!

  133. Would love to take Rory with me to the Middle East on my next trip – Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Oman and then on to Pakistan. They need him. I don’t think they have raccoons there? He may be the answer to world peace. At lease he’ll start a few conversations.

  134. I would LOVE a Rory to show off Madison, WI. We can get a beer together and have fried cheese curds! I also run a doggie daycare out of my home and mostly care for dogs with separation anxiety (I have anxiety myself) and I think the dogs would like to meet Rory too.

You’re coming to Milwaukee for your tour and I’ll make the drive to be there. My friend and I actually took a travel gnome with us to Vegas and it was a total riot. We named him Gnorme Gimlee Shotsie.

    hlrutten@gmail.com

  135. What a spectacular idea! We’d love to take Rory camping in VT with us. He might even be able to frolic with his own kind in the woods! Then we’d scamper over to the Saratoga race track for an afternoon. This sounds fun!

  136. I am certain Rory will be even furiouserly happy if he could come to Australia and cuddle a koala and handfeed a kangaroo!! (Who wouldn’t?!)

  137. Oh I would so love to take Rory to my hometown, Hastings, Nebraska. The Hastings Museum is two floors of taxidermist animals that would love to meet Rory, AND, best of all, Hastings is where Kool-Aid was invented! So the basement of the museum is a mini-Kool-Aid Museum. Rory must be photographed there.

  138. I’d love to take him with me to Central America, Singapore, and Australia when I go backpacking this fall and winter.

  139. I NEED Rory to visit me for my store manager’s conference in September. The last one I went around tying lobster claws to people’s doorknobs, using them to hold notebooks open, and one as a thoughtful cigarette holder in an outside ashtray, so this promises many shenanigans!! Did I mention I work for HomeGoods, birthplace of Beyoncé?

  140. I know the perfect sloth for Rory to hug at the Dallas Aquarium! Not to mention some great BBQ down the street that he would enjoy.

  141. I desperately want a Rory in London. I live in Camden, so I’ll take him to see all the local punk/goth pubs as well as the touristy bits !! debratrinidateathotmail.com

  142. While I firmly believe that Rory would greatly enjoy being photographed by my washing machine, I could ALSO take him to the weird Trappist monastery in Woodstock (added value of a virtually guaranteed contact high in town), and/or rock climbing in New Paltz. The world is his oyster. Unless he’s allergic to shellfish. Then anaphalactic shock seems unkind.

  143. I live in Salem, MA.
I could find LOADS of interesting places for Rory to visit.
Not to mention, the people watching is just awesome. He would enjoy it.

  144. I would love to take Rory to Crater Lake and Wildlife Images. Hopefully we could see past all the smoke from the forest fires we are having right now.

  145. we’re going to Hudson’s Bay in a couple of months to camera hunt polar bears. Rory needs to come with us as a protector.

  146. Maybe Rory would like to hang out with me for my neck surgery next Wednesday. We can recuperate by watching True Detective marathons. I’ll throw in some Deadwood if he would like to see some wild, wonderful woodland scenes.

  147. Jenny, my friend Scout and I washout on your last book tour to St. Louis and plan to see you again on your next tour. If you send me a Rory I will take pics of him all over the Lou and in Florida when I travel in a few months. Love you! Keep fighting the brave fight!

  148. My family is moving across country in the next few months (California to South Carolina) and we will most likely be driving during the final moving process. We love for you to send us Rory so he could join us on a literal cross-country adventure!

  149. I’d love to show Rory some of the sights around Central Florida and on my family’s ranch.
    Lisa guest in @yahoo.com

  150. I’d love to show Rory around New Orleans and North Carolina – to see the sites around the former and to weddings in the latter!

  151. I would love to take Rory to The Breakers, the Coast Guard station (assuming my husband lets me bring him on and doesn’t have me escorted off by security) and the Officers’ Club (with a lovely view of the Pell Bridge) in Newport, RI. (Let’s be honest…I’d totally photograph him with my dog, Shadow, too) My guest-room desk is ready and waiting!

  152. I’ve recently moved to San Francisco from Australia, so I’m exploring a new area and don’t really have any friends to do it with. So Rory would be welcome to come explore with me!

  153. Rory needs to see the Mothman in WV for sure, and the Pumpkin House, and the Cooper’s Rock overlook, and…he just needs to come to WV!

  154. Rory has to come see me in Monterey/Pacific Grove/Carmel! Just think of the trouble he could get into at the beaches, restaurants and wine tasting rooms! He will, of course, be sending wine and restaurant reviews as well — SO California!!! Not to mention visiting our bizarre and marvelous TJMaxx and Marshalls where he can adopt new 9and horrible) friends!

  155. PLEASE PLEASE someone take a printed Rory to the madness that is the republican debate! I’m pretty sure they’d nominate him on the spot.

Failing that, I’ll help out the Saint James Garfield group and take some pdf-Rory pics near the DC landmarks!

  156. PS – I’m going to Vegas for a reunion with grad school friends in late October and would totally take Rory along. I cringe to imagine the kinds of shenanigans we’d all find ourselves creating.

  157. I think Rory should come and do some sightseeing with me in Edinburgh, Scotland 🙂

  158. Oh Wow! I need to have a Rory! My printer is not working or I’d make one myself. I’m not a world traveler, but we’re on a mission to see as much cool stuff in our state, Connecticut, as possible.
I used to have alot of anxiety and occasionally still have episodes. My 18 year old son is still struggling to get his anxiety, depression and manic episodes under control. Your first book showed me that we are not so “weird” after all. As you know, it is easy to think no one understands what you are going through. I’ve followed your blog ever since.

In any case, I promise if you send us a Rory we will treat him like part of the family. 🙂
    Thanks for all you do!
    Kelly

  159. My travel mascot is a small Curious George in a pilot costume that my husbad gave me a few years ago. He goes everywhere with us, on all adventures great and small. He sometimes travels with his Minion freind Dave, his girlfriend Penelope the tied dyed magnet hands and feet airport monkey and has also been known to hang out in lonely hotel rooms with small rubber Justice League figurines. I think a samll Rory would be a wonderful addition to our silly crew. Please send details to bswg73@gmail.com ☺☺

  160. Rory needs to hang out with my backyard chickens, and go to the drive-in with us on movie night, and sit in the covered wagon at the Oregon Trail Interpretive Center!

  161. I have had a ridiculously depressed last couple of days, no idea why… But if Rory comes to my house, things are bound to get better!

  162. I live on Oahu, in Hawaii, and I would LOVE to take Rory around. especially since he would help take my mind off my husband’s deployment and I’d get out of my upcoming funk. There’s tons for him to see here!

  163. Ooh pick me! Clearly he needs to see museums and Nats stadium and DC stuff. does he have his own instagram account?

  164. Oh, I would love to do this! Several years ago, we retaliated against my mother for leaving a flock of plastic flamingos on our lawn by stealing her lawn gnome and taking a variety of pictures of him on our trip to New Hampshire to see my in-laws for Thanksgiving. I put him back without her knowing, but then made a story book for her with the pictures and gave it to her for Christmas. She was amused and then horrified when she realized it was her gnome, and immediately ran to make sure we hadn’t injured him. I’m all about this awesome plan. My e-mail is salamanda76@gmail.com.

  165. I travel so much for work, having a Rory to take along and photograph would be the best! I promise to give him lots of vaguely inappropriate adventures and document it faithfully!

  166. Later this month I’m driving from Philadelphia to St. Paul to drop of my youngest at college. Then my husband and I embark on our Empty Nest Celebratory Tour. I think Rory would make a lovely addition to our trip (plus he might take some of the sting out of leaving my baby so far away from home).

  167. I would LOVE to photograph him doing all sorts of things in the SF Bay Area!!

  168. If I’m able to crawl out of my own blanket nest, Rory will be most welcome to tag along. I will take him to work and teach him the awesomeness that is Cartography. I’ll even make an online map of all his travels if you’d like, Jenny. ☺

  169. I’d love to have a Rory to take on several trips in New England. I’ll be cruising the Islands in Casco Bay (Maine) and I’ll also be going to several cemeteries and waterfalls (I promise not to send him over any waterfalls!)

  170. My traveling days are in the past (but I had a Rory-like Purple Armadillo that has been all over the world with me), and also I live in a small town that doesn’t have a lot going on. However, I could take a picture of Rory in front of our (very) locally famous bar, The Bloated Goat. It even has a picture of a cartoon bloated goat on the sign that would accentuate Rory’s slightly crazed furiously happy look.

  171. I would love to take Rory to the Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, AL so that you can experience a stop on your book tour! Plus, furiously happy raccoons and enormous rockets go together like….like….they just really, really go together, okay? Trust me on this one. And he can volunteer with me at the zoo. Runslothrun@yahoo.com

  172. I think Rory needs to take a visit to Silicon Valley. Google headquarters? Apple? SurveyMonkey? Yahoo? Stanford University? The list goes on. I’m in.

  173. I’m going to Disney World in September…Rory is begging (she called me) to go to a Halloween Party at Magic Kingdom and the opening day of the Food & Wine Festival at Epcot. If you want to see the kind of fun my inanimate traveling companions experience with me, please go to instagram @georgetownpolly. Account is private but I’ll approve the follow so you can see her escapades.

  174. Roy needs to come see two of Washington’s fairs.
The state fair and The kitsap Fair and stampede!
They are always a blast, I might be able to get him to Seattle as well 🙂

  175. I will gladly show Rory the Atlantic City lighthouse and Storybook Land here in NJ. I may very well print one and take him to cheer on family at the Quantico Triathlon and Marine Corps Marathon; he’d probably enjoy seeing some of Ohio when I visit later this year…So much fun to be had!

(PS- glad billie lusk clarified it was a muppet Animal. I did wonder a little why a fish was being toted around…)

  176. I am 100% committed to showing Rory the sites of Seattle. The top of the Space Needle! The flying fish of Pike’s Place Market! The troll! The statue of Lenin! The beautiful downtown library! He can even go paddleboarding in Greenlake! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE SEND ME A RORY!

  177. Would love to show him some sites in Wisconsin! We are doing some college tours soon and he could come along, maybe the Waterpark or our State Fair 🙂

  178. I live on the OTHER side of San Angelo, but I would happily drive across town to WALL in order to traipse through your hometown cotton fields with Rory. We could also go to the school, and um…the convenience store.

  179. Real Rory is adorable. And not quite as deranged looking as book Rory.

If you want to send me a cardboard Rory, I’ll bring him to Politics & Prose in Washington DC. Some writer named, um, I think, Jinny Larson will be there on October 12. I bet Rory would love to met her.

Also, he and I can go to Chicago to visit my Big Kid and we can sit in Daley Plaza and wait for Keanu Reeves to appear and not get hit by the bus / car just like in Lake House. Also, he can enjoy much delicious food and exciting adventures.

  180. I’m planning this crazy long bike ride around central Iowa next month. It may not be exciting, but the trees will be turning and it’ll be a fun day. I’d love to take Rory with me!

  181. Roy needs to come to see two of Washington’s fairs. The State Fair and the Kitsap fair and stampede I might even be able to take him to Seattle that would be awesome!

  182. I’ll take Rory to New Orleans and make him drink those awful hurricanes at Pat O’s until he pukes! Then we’ll go for a nice brunch..

  183. I was really looking forward to meeting you in Denver. Now I feel like I’ll be causing you pain, and should reconsider going. {sad}

  184. I would love to take Rory on a sightseeing tour of Chicago! He can also attend my brother’s wedding, and join us for our trip to Long Beach!

  185. I already pre-ordered your book and would love to read it with Rory. He would enjoy San Diego so much!

  186. Raleigh NC is pretty awesome if you ask me. Today at work I coached one of my folks on how to catch a pregnant stray cat in a box…. (We sell software) I think Rory would fit in well with my team!

  187. I’m in New York right now on vacation, and I definitely could have used a blanket fort today during a bout of PTSD. I totally love the idea of Rory, I have a squirrel finger puppet that I take with me on my travels. Her name is Nell, for a dear friend who lost her battle with depression 2 yrs ago. I hope that somewhere she’s smiling and enjoying her namesakes trips.

  188. Oh pick me, pick me! I live in Iowa, but we could come up with some fun shenanigans for Rory.

  189. Oh it is ON. I’m making myself a Rory, and I am going to take him and my camera everywhere. I cannot have a taxidermied anything because my pets will eat their faces off, but Carboard Rory is as immortal as the internet.

  190. I just moved north of Philly, and need more encouragement to go out and explore Philly (instead of being overwhelmed by the move and new job and everything). If you send me a Rory I’ll take him with me.

  191. ahhh, I need to do this! This is so amazing! I am going to try to make a printout so I can take him with me everywhere I go (currently doing exposure therapy for agoraphobia, so maybe not that far, but will still be fun and extra incentive to leave the house).

  192. Sounds like Rory has some big adventures yet to come! If he meets a Magnaminously Joyous farm girl and needs a bachelor party weekend in my hometown of Las Vegas, I’d be happy to arrange it. Or, I can just show him around the sites and take some embarrassing pictures to send back with him if the wedding nuptials aren’t shotgun and fall through. dwillmon@ymail.com

  193. Jenny, I would love a Rory to take with us on adventures. But most of all I would love one to send to school with my daughter on her first day of 8th grade. We had to move to Houston from Arizona last year under very stressful circumstances, and her adjustment has been rough, though she has been very brave and keeping her chin up. She’s a big fan of yours and I know it would blow her mind to be able to take Rory on a wild ride through a typical day in middle school.
And we are very grateful you are willing to leave your house so we can attend the reading in Houston!

  194. I’m going to print him out and take him to a family reunion this weekend. He can help offset the high anxiety I will have when meeting relatives I didn’t know I had for the first time. HE will be coming with me on vacation and possibly to a wedding. I hope my BIL won’t mind.

  195. I spend my summers going to as many Irish festivals in the US as I can get to. I’m heading to the Milwaukee Irish Fest in a little less than two weeks. Biggest 4-day Irish fest in the US. I know Rory would love taking pictures with leprechauns, fiddlers, Irish dancers, and various other fun people. I usually bring my little stuffed Rat from the comic “Pearls Before Swine” with me on road trips for fun pictures, but I’m sure Rat would love some company from Rory.
    wiskey2000@gmail.com

  196. I’m new to Texas and love to see the sites! I’d take him to the State Fair and to Sundance Squate to get his picture taken with the wings. And he can come Stand Up Paddleboarding with me! Kjkillian at gmail dot com

  197. I’d love to take Rory all around Ottawa! I think it would be a fun, exciting, and educational experience. Also probably unhealthy and very dangerous. (Except for the bits where Rory’s likely to join a D&D game.)
    canuckotter@gmail.com

  198. I think Rory would love to visit the dinosaurs (and other strange creatures) at Yale. I would introduce him to my office fish and, if that went well, I could also take him to Mystic Aquarium and Seaport, an alpaca farm, to see the giant bug on the way to Boston. Maybe Rory could come 2ith me to Corning and blow some glass …

Having Rory to share the sights would motivate me to go out more.

    Pixisis@gmail.com

  199. We need somewhere where we can purchase these. And then we need to drown social media in #wheresrory tags. Tell us how we can do this thing.

  200. I’m going to Rome,Turkey and Greece in October. I think Rory needs to visit the Vatican and the Turkish Grand Bazaar, maybe kickback with some Ouzo on a Greek Island at sunset or see the world from the top of the temples at Meteora. I can always use a crafty raccoon as my travel companion.

  201. I think Rory needs to see the shores of Lake Michigan. And have a drink with me at the Bostwick Lane Inn. Happy places for me. xo

  202. “Glue it on something stiff.” Heh. I am twelve.

But my husband might wanna hide the glue.

  203. I’m assuming hashtags are based on twitter? And for THAT I might make a twitter account. Just to watch Rory. Is it sad that I have NO idea how hashtags work? And no twitter or fb account?

I also may need to print a rory.

  204. If Rory would like to see parts of Canada, I’d be happy to show him around Toronto, and a few other places when I travel for a wedding later this month. He could also come with me when I go down to New Jersey, and there’s lots of cool stuff to see there! alia.siegrist[at]gmail.com

  205. I’m going up the north shore (Lake Superior) in a couple weeks. I think he needs to hunt for agates, watch the big ships come in, go hiking by the falls, kayaking through the sea caves. He probably wants to make some s’mores, too.

  206. My best friend and I are leaving on a road trip to Montana on Friday. Not enough time, I think, for someone to mail Rorys to us for that trip, but I’ll print him out and he can come along.
And who knows after that… Best Friend will be in the country for another month, I’m sure we can get some Rorys into some interesting places. And when Best Friend flies back to the UK… she can make him an international sensation!

  207. I’m pretty sure that Rory would really love to come to the beach with me and all five of my kids!! People already think we’re a spectacle with so many kids, so I should probably have a cardboard cut-out of a dead raccoon to add to the look.

  208. Jenny- love your site, accidentally discovered your 1st book @ the liberry & have been following ever since. When u stared talking more @ your disorder, it made it a little bit easier to deal w/ my own (paranoid schizophrenic). My wife & I will (hopefully) be reuniting this fall 2 celebrate our 13th anniversary; she will b traveling by RV to meet me God knows where& we’re gonna take it from there. We may never stop traveling w/ our 2 cats, Cinco de Meow-ow & Pancho Milla ( they’re Mexican cats; their favorite food is fish tacos). I would be more than happy 2 send you pics from all over the country. My wife would be ECSTATIC if u sent her 1 of these 2 start our trip. Jenean Zunk c/o Black Bear Campground 197 Wheeler Florida, NY 10921. Sorry this went on so long, but this is the 1st time I’ve ever done this. Keep on Rockin’ & Rollin!

  209. I would love to show Rory around the Coal Region of Pennsylvania. I could take some pictures with him in the town of Centralia, home of the United State’s worst underground fire. It’s also the town that Silent Hill was originally based on. There’s also a statue in my town of a man at the gallows that’s a can’t miss.

  210. We aren’t going anywhere exotic, but my kids could take Rory to the WWI museum, swimming at the community center, to the local petting zoo/farmstead, just all the places my kids have fun. Sometimes I even manage to make it out with them.

  211. I want to take Rory to Yosemite with me this month and then we can tour my hometown, New Orleans. Please send one to me!

  212. Rory needs to try Algerian Tacos. He needs to go to the beach in Malibu. He needs to meet my cats, Princess Farty Pants and Bitey-the-Destroyer. He needs to go shopping at Ikea! He needs to sit on the porch with my 83 year-old neighbor, Wally.

  213. My older daughter is starting her college visits this fall, which is causing a certain level of anxiety in our household. I would love it if Rory could come with Grace (who is, by the way, a huge fan of yours) to see some of these schools and maybe help her decide which ones to apply to.

We live in Charlottesville, Virginia, which is the home of Monticello and the University of Virginia.

    Jen
    jennifer.brecht@gmail.com

  214. Rory absolutely needs to see The Egg in Albany NY. And probably the Adirondacks, or at least the ski jumps at Lake Placid.

  215. So, I’m proud of you for recognizing your limits. I say this as a person who just canceled a trip to Canada because not enough spoons. I’m headed to England in 20 days, which probably isn’t enough time to get a Rory from you, so I printed one to take with me.

  216. Rory can come with me to my first day in college and sit in on the lectures. Then I won’t be so terrified to go back at 32 and you can have the first paralegal raccoon.

  217. If you ever come to Baton Rouge, LA, I’ll take you to a restaurant in a stip mall and only talk about the weather. (I’m probably lying about only talking about the weather)

  218. I can start Rory on a tour of various National Parks (with the park rangers)-just in time for the Centennial. His tour would start in South Dakota and build from there.

  219. I think Rory needs to visit Harry Potter World and/or possibly Gatorland. 🙂 maybe I can get a picture of him riding a gator!

  220. i will be in Ireland in 2 months! My friend that I am traveling with is bring along Mabel, The Malcontent Maple (tree), and she would probably appreciate the company of a furiously happy raccoon.

  221. I’d love to take Rory with us when we drop my daughter off for her freshman year of college. (Honesly we could use the help unpacking) And my younger daughter can take Rory to band camp and to work with her at the Waterpark. I could also take him to my Accounting classes that I’ll be teaching at the community college. We’ll keep him busy and occupied! debbysimonton@gmail.com

  222. Not just any canyon, THE GRANDEST OF CANYONS! Plus, as an added bonus, Sedona, Flagstaff, Phoenix, and Tucson. If he feels so inclined, and has his shots and papers, MEXICO!

  223. I would happily take Rory with me on a cruise to Alaska. I’m positive he would love to see some humpback whales and glaciers.

  224. Going on a family cruise in October, and I would adore sneaking Rory on with my stash of contraband alcohol. Provided he doesn’t drink all of “Mommy’s Medicine.”

  225. In this, the 60th anniversary of the demise of James Dean, I would be most honored to take Rory to JD’s final resting place. That is, as long as Rory doesn’t get freaked out by any fellow raccoon corpses that may be on the country road between Back Creek Friends Church – the site of the memorial service – and JD’s grave.

  226. Please send me Rory. I will take him to Michigan in September – Grand Rapids, to be exact. We arrive in Detroit, so maybe I’ll take Rory to Belle Isle or the Detroit Institute of Arts, where he will be right at home.
    Kate

  227. I live in a city in Canada with a famous landmark & teach at a high school. Our students are going on two international trips this year, so Rory could hitch a ride with them. I also am part of a running club full of travellers! jen[dot]karpiuk[at]gmail[dot]com

  228. Holy macaronies this is ahhhmazing! I’m in Colorado right by The Royal Gorge Bridge which is a sight to behold. In a couple weeks, my husband and I will be doing the 1/4 mile walk across the bridge and I think Rory would love it. As long as he isn’t afraid of heights…

  229. I’m in St. Louis and I think Rory should definitely see the Arch.

  230. I would love to take Rory around Calgary AB along with my cocker spaniel Rory. Jaxs1971@ gmail.com

  231. Rory needs to come to my restaurant, The Flying Pie in Newberry, SC.Photographed either in the kitchen with the flying pies, or out with the customers, featuring the mural of the dancing vegetables posing as celebrities.

  232. If you send Rory to me he will get to visit the only covered bridge in Minnesota! Plus maybe some cows or sheep…

  233. Oh, I would love for Rory to visit Nebraska. It would be awesome to have a photo op with him at the Henry Doorly Zoo, at work, and everywhere else I go. 🙂

    geckyboz @ gmail dot com

  234. Can Rory hold my hand when I drop off my 1st born for his second year of college? You would think because it’s the 2nd year it would be easier…it’s not! Probably because I will go back to those long nights wondering if he’s eaten dinner or if he has a front row seat with the riots. Plus, I think Rory would like to meet the famous Cal Berkeley squirrels, they are quite nice and chubby.

  235. Rory needs a Caribbean cruise. I can only imagine the fun he’ll get into – formal night photos, hairy chest contest, and bingo! But the fun will continue when we get to port – maybe swimming with stingrays in Grand Cayman, visiting Scotchies for jerk chicken in Jamaica, and drinking a gallon-sized margarita in Cozumel. I can hear the ocean breezes calling his name now …

  236. I am going to Hersey and a couple concerts/shows soon that I hope he’ll enjoy. One is with my inlaws, who know I’m a bit strange and don’t typically bat an eye at things I do or say. I wonder if Rory would change that? But as much as I would LOVE you to send me a Rory, I am more than happy to make my own, since you said that’s ok. Maybe it’ll also make me explore some more, knowing I need to show him a fun time. Can’t wait for your next book!

  237. I’m a part of an amazing online mom group, and I would love to pass Rory around the world to all these awesome ladies! Some are in Scotland and Australia and India, even! Rory would totally fit right in!

  238. I would love to take Rory to Niagara Falls, all over Washington, D.C. and the metro DC area (that includes Baltimore, Hon.)

  239. Hobart, Tasmania, Australia – coz that’s the last place you’d expect to see a raccoon!

  240. I live in Oakland, and I’d love to take Rory to all the beautiful spots people don’t even know exist here. Plus I have a coconspirator who lives in Berkeley who’s a huge fan of yours and talked me into getting your book and the three of us would have a great time.

  241. Oh,I am SO printing out Rory to take to work with me here in the Santa Cruz Mountains. He will be able to visit with giant ancient Redwoods and perhaps we can take a picture outside of the Bigfoot Discovery Museum up the street (a real museum!).

  242. Rory needs to go to Vegas with us!
We leave Friday, but we’re going at the end of the month, too.
    And at #VIMFP in October.
    No hookers & blow.
    Maybe.

  243. I’m leaving in three weeks to backpack around Europe for two months by myself and I’m absolutely terrified (and happy. But terrified). Rory would be the most amazing travelling companion! We can chat over croissants and chocolate; climb a mile up the Alps, then turn around and go get some Swiss chocolate instead; beg the oracle of Delphi for a tiny hint about wtf we’re supposed to do with our lives, then eat some chocolate when we don’t like her answer; stay hidden together in our hotel room eating chocolate during the bullfights in Spain… It’ll be perfect.
    emmamarie8734@gmail.com

  244. Okay. This is weird, but my College Buddy and I give each other “Challenges” for the coming year when we get together for our Annual GGW Weekends. She’s been working diligently on her challenges and this year, she challenged ME to clean-up my Harley and get back to riding – Dammit (Long-story – but I had health issues, several years ago, that made me “Lose my Nerve” and I haven’t been back on the bike since).

Well, I have removed the piles of clean laundry from the handlebars and windscreen (it’s a very shiny, very expensive hanging-clothes-dryer!). But the bike is still dusty (in the spots that weren’t covered with laundry) and still hasn’t been backed-out of the garage.

Yeah, so anywaaaaayyyy… If Rory were to come and visit me, I would have NO CHOICE but to dust and wax my bike, fire it up, and take Rory on a ride to a Genuine Biker Bar. Maybe buy him a beer (he is of legal drinking age, right?!). And then I could share photographic PROOF on the interwebs, and send a link to my College Bud as well. She would be So Very Proud of Me.

  245. I am friends with Jane West on Facebook. She is a travelling western doll that my sister had as a child. Now Jane travels everywhere with everyone and her pictures are amazing. Jane is a rootin tootin cowgirl.

I am looking forward to seeing you in Milwaukee…

  246. Well I do love to explore the mountains, beaches and dark back alleys of Oregon. Along with loads of beer and wine! I’d love Rory to come with and I wouldn’t have to drink alone!

  247. I would love to introduce Rory to my part of Australia – I can take him to Hanging Rock, the cross at Mt Macedon, down a gold mine, on the big observation wheel in Melbourne, to our beaches and to introduce him to my animals (Whoosa Beastie, Princess Fluffypants, Boomblyguts)

  248. PICK ME!!!PICK ME!!! How ’bout on the back of a real Shetland pony…in Shetland!!!!

  249. I’d love a Rory! He and my human boyfriend Rory would be the best of pals.

  250. Oopsie! Forgot to mention my email address. imqtpi — at — gmail — dotcom

  251. I’ve always wanted to go to Hell (Michigan) so Rory and I could go on that adventure!

  252. I can’t believe you’re coming to Dayton, again! I have no idea how our little city makes the list, but bear with me while I tell the story….last time you were here, my daughter had just moved home with me after dealing with issues of depression, addiction, etc. She checked herself in to a center to be safe, and, once she got out, she moved to Dayton to get a fresh start. I introduced her to your blog and your book and she instantly found a connection. I brought her to your reading and bought her her own copy of the book for an autograph. It was a wonderful night. (At the same time we were at the reading, i had to duck out because my phone kept buzzing. Turns out her mother, my ex had a heart attack…..but she was OK. One more reason we’ll never forget that night) Anyhow, we would love to show Rory all of the ahem amazing sights you’ll miss in the Dayton metro. ….looking forward to seeing you again..Terry-sludged@aol.com

  253. OH! I am headed to Iceland in September (Rory on an Icelandic horse? Rory on a glacier? Rory with a giant icelandic waterfall? Rory in a hot springs?). As an added bonus – I live in Minneapolis. So I could also do Rory in snow. 😉

  254. Rory will see the southwest with me along with a little of Maine come December. And all around Flagstaff, AZ until then. And I’m planning a trip to the UK in a couple of years and I’d be happy to take him with me as well. Joyful!!!
    rugarbabe05@yahoo.com

  255. Rory can go to the Morikami Japanese gardens with me. He can also see my beautiful backyard garden and share a glass of wine with me. Or a picnic on the beach, which we often do here. Maybe even Nana’s pool and a gazillion fun restaurants in Ft. Lauderdale. I think Rory will like my pugs, too. I see future Besties there. Feel free to email me if you think Rory would like to be around my crazy family: marciakesterdoyle@yahoo.com

  256. If someone sends me a Rory I will not only create a twitter account or instagram or what the hell ever I need to show how well I treat him but I will show him all of Phoenix area and all vacations I go on from now until FOREVER.

  257. 258. I’m a high school guidance counselor and I would take Rory to freshman orientation night. Because no one is more anxious – and more in need a furiously happy raccoon – than 300 incoming high school freshmen.

  259. Rory totally needs to come hang out with me in New Zealand. He’d get to see…well, mostly scenery. But I could take him to meet some hobbits too!

  260. We just moved to Eastern NC, New Bern specifically and we’ve been exploring and eating and would love to bring Rory along. Rory riding in a boat? Check. Maybe trying kayaking or paddle boarding. Crabbing and fishing? Visiting Tryon Palace. Rory and my 2 year old would have a blast.

  261. We are traveling to Hawaii in a few weeks and would love to bring Rory along! Think he can entertain my kids on the 11 hour flight while I’m curling myself into a ball…or as close as I can get to a ball with my seat belt on? mepourakis@yahoo.com

  262. Rory will be spending some time with us in South Korea! Got my printer all spooled up!

  263. I am going on a Mediterranean cruise in Sept and my room mate and I would love to escort Rory through Barcelona, Provence, Rome, take him to Pompeii, maybe a gondola ride in Venice then safely home. I am Pam peliason@sc.rr.com

  264. I would love a Rory. I will show him around Oklahoma, use him to diary our move to our dream house, and I will do some traveling for work & promise to take him there too. amyrebeccasteele@yahoo.com

  265. Yes!! Does Rory really get to come with all of us?! In San Diego he’ll be experiencing life with a 7 year old. Let the games begin!

  266. We’re leaving for a 6,000 mile road trip leaving Aug 21. We’re leaving Michigan, through Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, North and South Dakota, Wyoming and Montana – Yellowstone NP, Glacier NP, Mt Rushmore, the Badlands NP, Wind Cave NP and Teddy Roosevelt NP. We’re also going to see Buffalo jumps, one of three of the last real tepees, Noah’s Ark Waterpark and of course putt-putt. There will hopefully be bears.

  267. I live near Niagara Falls! I’d be happy to have him visit the honeymoon capital of the world (not really sure if that’s still a thing, but it’s the only claim to fame Niagara Falls still clings to). Maybe he’ll find love. Maybe he’ll try to survive going over in a barrel. He’ll probably meet a lot of confused Asian tourists–fun all around!

  268. I’m headed to west Texas near Sand Hills State Park and a really creepy ghost town. In the coming months I’ll be traveling to Carlsbad and Odessa too. I’ll gladly show Rory around and send in some pictures.

  269. PS Rory would make number 5 – me, husband, Isaac (12 tomorrow) and Fiona (10)

  270. Rory needs to come with me to Maine! My cabin in Maine is the only place I can go where my anxiety doesn’t cripple me. I love it there. Rory will have a blast. (And this will be therapeutic for me too!)

  271. I am so sorry that my parents and one of my best friends both just returned from a trip to Italy! I would have totally sent Flat Rory with them (we did it with Flat Stanley a few years ago for my niece’s project)!! However, since my parents travel all the time, and my Mom and I totally want to stalk you and be your friend (I’m kidding…kinda), they will be taking Flat Rory with them everywhere! Just an aside – Mom & I were both reading your first book on our respective Kindles during a drive from Miami to Orlando, and the other four people in the van were giving us strange looks as we were both snorking and laughing so hard we had snot coming out our noses! We live in Arlington, TX, and I can’t wait to meet you at the Dallas book tour stop!

  272. I think Rory would love to visit Sydney, take him to the top of centrepoint tower, Sydney opera house, the beach, on the harbour on our tiny boat, all over.

  273. Flat Stanley has nothing on #FlatRory I will try to get a picture with my real Texas chickens as soon as I find something stiff. nudge, nudge, wink, wink

  274. I’m spending the next nine months in Slovenia and Mexico, Rory is welcome to come along!

  275. I live in Canada’s capital city, Ottawa! I’d love to take him to our Parliament buildings (since you’re our president, he should see where the political magic happens) and various other touristy sights!

  276. Family reunion coming up and I can think of no better way to meet relatives I’ve never seen before than with Rory at my side.

  277. Send him to me in southern Ohio. He will have backdrops of KY and OH, and tour the local country side. Maybe a trip down the Ohio river. Or a ride up river via train. I need him!!!

  278. I have been reading and loving your blog for years Jenny. It’s the best blog on the internet, i SWEAR. i can’t count the number of shitty days when I was depressed that you’d make me snort tea out of my nose and for five minutes i’d have a break from holding the door shut against le sad. so yes PLEASE if you can send me Rory, in Delhi, India, I would LOVE to take him sightseeing and send you pictures. I’ve got a bunch of random travelling coming u too over the next 6-8 months.

  279. I would love to show Rory the good stuff in Baltimore, including a Ravens football game!

  280. I might be too late, but my first thought was that I’d love to take Rory to Seattle’s Sculpture Park, and take a picture next to the giant typewriter eraser rolling down the hill. Because what could be more random than a ridiculously exuberant raccoon next to a giant typewriter eraser?

  281. I would love to take Rory on a field trip of my travel over the next few months. We will have a ball. I promise to bring a scrapbook of his adventures to your reading in Atlanta in September. By the way, I’m totally skipping a work dinner to attend your reading. Seriously, who schedules a work event the same night you are in ATL???

  282. I’m in Orlando and I would love to take Rory sculling with me one morning. We go out on Lake Fairview at 6:30 am and row as the sun comes up. Rory would like the quietude and the birds. He might also see paw prints of his livelier brethren.

  283. I’d love to take Rory to Fertility, Blue Ball, Intercourse and Paradise! (All in Lancaster County, Pa)

  284. Horseback riding, DEFINITELY! I just got a beautiful filly who will be ridden for the fist time next week. And Rory will be there, right with her. Pics to follow!

  285. I’m going to the World Science Fiction Convention in Spokane in two weeks. I’d love to take him along and get pictures with authors and costumed weirdos. I’ll print my own Rory if he’s otherwise occupied then.

  286. I’m am probably waaaay at the end of the line here given the number of coments I haven’t had time to scroll through yet, but if Rory wants to travel down here to New Zealand, I’d be happy to take him sightseeing!

  287. Rory really needs to see the State Fair of Texas… Have a little Meet & Greet with Big Tex and Little Rory… A contrast of two overly happy people in fried food heaven. Maybe if he’s lucky, he will even get some killer Blue Bell ice cream. Really… Rory hasn’t lived (which is kind of a feat given that the real Rory is… you know… dead) until he’s see the fair in a state that claims that everything to have everything bigger.

  288. Rory should totally come hang out with our library dinosaur, Bernard III aka #bernardthetrex, and the awesome librarians. He might get to meet some live cats and hens, too. codson@anythinklibraries.org (although we’re all about the maker thing and can totally do this)

  289. I live in Minnesota, in a few months it will be necessary to make Raccoon jackets , I am on it. I could talk about all the great places here I could take him, but everyone only thinks of snow and cold and how crazy we are to live here, so why bother with the logistics.

  290. Send Rory to Milwaukee! He needs to visit the Bronze Fonz, among other things!!!

  291. Rory should visit the 40-foot-tall blue bear at Denver’s convention center with me. I think they’d be friends. They could bond over being oddball animals that make people happy.

  292. I think Rory would love to visit my small corner of the world in Wetumpka, AL. It’s hot as hades here currently so we could spend time at our local Poarch Creek Indian Casino. Or head into Montgomery and visit some pretty cool places like Hank Williams Sr’s grave site.

  293. I leave for London in 3 weeks. Rory definitely wants to go. Particularly as we head to the Doctor Who Experience in Cardiff!

  294. It’s pretty important that I show Rory around our library. He can get to know friends that he’ll be hanging out with a lot in the bookstores and libraries. Winnie the pooh, Harry Potter, Nancy Drew, Paddington Bear, Captain Underpants…I could go on forever….plus we have a larger than life dragon and dragonfly and that’s pretty awesome.

  295. Kotzebue Alaska Above the Arctic Circle. He can watch the Sunset over the Chukchi Sea and watch the Northern Lights

  296. Send him to Cleveland and I’ll take him to snuggle with the leg lamp at the Christmas Story House. And then we’ll go to some presidential tomb, the dam where Captain America was filmed, a crinkly Frank Ghery building, the mothereffing Rock Hall, to see his taxidermied animal friends at the West Side Market (foodstuffs! 100 years old!), and places that Drew Carey has obviously been. Oh, and of course! Of course! The world’s largest outdoor chandelier! If he hangs out through October, we can roll to Chicago on a Mega Bus to some design conference, and then have a Ferris Bueller’s Day Off adventure.

  297. The Adirondacks (upstate NY) needs a Rory! He wants to hike and bike and swim and play with our dogs. And visit an couple of Olympic sites (1932 and 1980 Olympics were here!).

  298. I’m definitely going to print out a Rory to take to Lake Michigan with me. People already think I’m a little off of center, so carrying around a cardboard raccoon shouldn’t come as that much of a shock. Also, my daughter, Whimzy (yes, that is her real name), is on this weird face kick for pictures, so I’m sure I can come up with some interesting pictures! Also, I totally already have my aunt and my best friend taking off work to come with me to see you in Milwaukee! It is going to be the highlight of my year <3

  299. My kids and I would love to take Rory on our family vacation to NC later this month! I can’t wait to see the looks we get running around with him 🙂

  300. I just started a new job very recently where I travel all over Missouri, Kansas & Illinois. I’m sure Rory would love to go along and see some of the unusual parts of those states and then I will have someone with me so the traveling won’t be so lonely! Email: joulez99@gmail.com

  301. Please send me a Rory ASAP. I’m heading to the hamptons next week and then he definitely need to come to work with me. We do very interesting things at my work.

  302. @ Judith #264
I’m right there with you. My mind went to exactly the same place.

I’m going to print myself a Rory. I’m in Boston and I can take him to Harvard, MIT, a ton of museums, the world’s largest air insulated van de graaf generator, and SO much more.

  303. He needs a pic with the worlds largest hockey stick in Duncan British Columbia Canada
Maybe he can change some of the burned out fkng lightbulbs that seem to be evergray. Just saying.
It’s either him or the gopher from Caddyshack.
Laugh til you cry then laugh again
    All my thanks
    K.

  304. Me, Me! I can take him to visit Yale University, have lobster rolls by the seashore, maybe pick blueberries(cause they’re in season here) Maybe go kayaking or visit the zoo. Probably both. Sadly I left Scotland, but the postage to CT is cheaper! Bookgirl33@gmail.com

  305. my feline overlords and I would be delighted to introduce Rory to the DC area, Lepus the taxidermist jack elope, and our other favorite characters.

  306. It’s too hot right now to take Rory around to see the sights of Phoenix (and I mean that seriously – he could melt), but perhaps soon I’ll be doing some traveling and I’ll take a Rory with me. (We’re going to DisneyWorld and Canaveral and the Bahamas in a few months!)

I’m @Wildrider51 on Twitter. (You actually follow me, but I never say anything pithy enough to be notable.)

  307. I live in the Washington DC area and would love to take Rory around to see everything. In fact my blue suv (unfortunately not the correct blue but I digress) I call Rory would love having the company. Now to try and find a printer.

  308. I live near New Orleans and could take him there sometime soon. And if it’s not too far in the future to qualify, I’ll be going to Iceland for two weeks in May of next year. I’d be thrilled to take Rory with us and have him explore the glaciers, geysers, volcanoes, cliffs, etc. Send me one (maybe you could sign his backside if it’s not too much trouble?) and he’ll have a great Viking adventure next year!

    Bethany Riggs
    Baahumbugg@gmail.com

  309. i live in Hobart and I reckon the wee fella would love a trip here. I could take him to hang out at the Museum of Old and New Art, or to meet some Tasmanian devils, or to see an Antarctic icebreaker, or to the oldest theatre in Australia. Lots for Rory to do here 🙂

  310. I am leaving for Burning Man in a few weeks, I need to take Rory with me. I saw a clown chasing a unicorn at Burning Man so a raccoon should be fit right in.

  311. I love this idea! I camp a lot with a lot of wonderful wacky women and it would be fun to take Rory with us! On a recent camping trip this summer I even got one of the ladies hooked on your first book. We can’t wait for the release of the next one!

  312. I live in the shark bite capital of the world.. While I won’t promise a shark attack. I’ll do my best. Or at least some dolphins and manatees… Definitely willing to send roxy on after the shark attacking tho

  313. Denver has a giant blue bear that looks in to one of the windows at the convention center. I think him and Rory would make great friends.

  314. Oh, I hope I’m not too late! Please let me take Rory to Mars!! HI-SEAS (Hawaii Space Exploration Analog and Simulation, hi-seas.org) is my project, and I’d love to show Rory around.

  315. I think Rory would love Boston. Lots of historic places for him to see, like Paul Revere’s house or The Freedom Trail. Because I am pretty sure we fought the Revolutionary War to ensure the right to take photos of racoons without taxation. Something like that.

  316. I can’t wait to see where Rory goes. This idea is absolutely amazing. Thank you, thank you, thank you for being you. The world is a better place because you are in it!!

  317. I. LOVE. THIS. And because I live in Kansas (home to the world’s largest ball of twine), I am putting myself in charge of getting a picture of Rory with it. gretaperl@cox.net or I will print himout myself.

  318. Oh my goodness, Rory needs to come to the Midwest. Especially with Buckeye Football starting up??? Please please!

  319. I live just outside Atlanta!! I would take him for a ride on the Ferris wheel and all over downtown and to my art studio and then take him hiking at tallulah gorge- one of the prettiest places in Georgia! I’d also like to take Rory to a concert or maybe dueling pianos- his choice! 😉 what a fun idea! I hope I get to see you again in the book tour!!

  320. On a balloon to the edge of space. I think I have finally accepted the fact that I will never get into space but a dead raccoon might actually represent me far better than the long list of engineers and air force officers. What a picture it would make!

  321. I would love to take Rory with me on adventures! Into the Sierra Nevada backcountry, Death Valley, San Francisco, and various other fun locations! I’ve always wanted a cardboard raccoon to travel with. 😄

  322. I’m in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. I’m happy to take Rory around places and send him off round Australia or wherever.

  323. I’m leaving for Iceland on Sept 15th. Rory could come hang out in the land of ice and fire with me and my travel octopus!

  324. I had a stuffed skunk (Pepe Le Pew) that I traveled with all over France. So this is all kinds of up my alley.

I’m going to Victoria next month! Would love to take Rory along for some international adventures!

    dreadpiratemegan (at) gmail.com

  325. Know what’s great? Visiting theme parks. Riding roller coasters.
Know what’s greatER? Running theme parks. Climbing roller coasters. Maybe even cleaning the sludge pits left behind when water rides are emptied. Rory would be furiouslyhappy to experience all that and more and I would be just as furiouslyhappy to make that happen with him.

  326. Rory tweeted you some pics from Seattle 🙂 So glad he is getting to see the world 🙂

  327. I live in Spain and would be happy for Rory to share in our travels! A car stuffed with three kids, two French Bulldogs, the books I insist on bringing, and a very patient husband NEEDS a raccoon to make it complete.

  328. Not going to Burning Man this year, but will be in Croatia in a couple of weeks. I’ll print and take him with me.

  329. Yay! I just bought both of your books on Amazon. You are coming to my city, Huntsville, Alabama, sometime this fall! I will be there, but I am not a good cupcake maker – do you like cookies? I have loved your blog for a long time (Beyonce brought me here) and heard many wonderful things about the books. I am sure I will treasure them. I hope to see you this fall and get you to sign my books because I think you are awesome!

  330. I live in Portland and know that Rory would love it here. Also, I’m going on a couple month trip to Europe. We’ll visit the Eiffel Tower, Madrid, end of the world (the world could still be flat, science isn’t trustworthy),, Lisbon, and lots of wine (Xanax very likely too). He’ll be quite happy.

  331. Hi, Jenny. I’m Jenny. live in Syracuse, NY, and I’d love to take Rory to the Great New York State Fair at the end of August. I’ll bet that Rory would be Furiously Happy to see the butter sculpture, and the dairy cows. I’ll take pictures of him all over the Fair, being his glorious, Furiously Happy self. But not on a ride. I don’t go on rides anymore. I have Fibromyalgia, and just walking around the Fair with Rory is going to be painful. But I miss going to the Fair, and Rory will give me a reason to go again, even if it hurts. Because I can do it anyway, if I take it slow, and sit down a lot, and take care of myself. Rory will help me see the Fair again!

  332. Book tour – yea!! Wasn’t sure if you’d be able to make one. Looking forward to Seattle visit but seating is first come first seated – ugh. Means getting there early and talking. to. people. But to be in the same room with you, it will be worth it. But RORY! How did I not know his name? Tomorrow is arts and crafts time – I think the PDF needs a wee centurion outfit though, don’t you think? At least helmet and cape. I can so see him in a cape…

  333. If Rory gets tired of traveling, I’ll be stuck on my couch for two weeks. He can come and watch HGTV and the Food Network with me while I recover from surgery on my foot. It’s not a major surgery, I just get antsy after awhile. If he had had a free schedule a few weeks ago, he could have enjoyed a trip to DC and Niagara falls and my cousin’s wedding.

  334. Rory should meet my neighbors Stegosaurus. He likes to get dressed up for the holidays!

  335. Rory needs to come to Whitehorse, Yukon Territory, Canada. I will take him to see the giant mammoth sculptures, Robert Service’s cabin (where we will recite “The Cremation of Sam McGee”, and of course we will visit my favourite bookstore, which was recently featured on Buzzfeed. I’m sure we will have other northern adventures, depending on when he gets here. Do you think he’d like to ride a dogsled?

  336. I am going to New Zealand to visit my goddaughter and her family – Rory will love the airplane peanuts!

  337. Does Rory want to drive from Los Angeles to Seattle and back with me at the end of August? He does, doesn’t he? Yes, yes he does, the handsome boy! 😁

  338. I could take a photo of him in front of the abandon KFC in my stinky little town…. 🙂

  339. My kids and I are going to leave on a road trip the 9th (Sunday), we’re going to see some Little House on the Prairie sites and various other weird crap on the road. I don’t think there is enough time to mail me one, but I’ll gladly make my own and take him along. 🙂

  340. oh, maybe i’m too late. but if i could, i would take rory all over chicago and the suburbs for our lesser know attractions: the shit fountain, the leaning tower of piza ymca, the bahai temple. plus something made by frank lloyd wright. then there’s the regular attractions: the bean, the art institute, maybe navy pier (but that is just for tourists and no one who lives here actually goes there. maybe a trip to wisconsin where they really do have a lot of cheese.

  341. Ooooh! Like you, I’m a stick to a hotel kind of person when I travel & I make myself feel bad because I just want to go home when I should be enjoying the sights & I just can’t….So, while I can’t take Rory anywhere exotic I could take him to the gym & prove that being a racoon & cardboard doesn’t stop you from keeping fit…AND AND AND!! I could also photograph him with the Norfolk Hooge Poomah, which I know would be totally awesome and keep me in blogging material for the next 50 years! Thanks in advance…. acatcalledsalem@yahoo.co.uk (please feel free to totally stalk me now you have my email).

  342. Just an afterthought about the PDF Rory, print it, stick it on something stiff & cut it out. Woohoo!! Rory condoms!! Ok, not sure about the cut it out bit but we can work on it…

  343. I would love to take Rory all over the San Francisco Bay Area, which probably won’t surprise anyone here, because, well, it’s San Francisco. Also, the 17 year old man child I call my son is hilarious and will absolutely get behind these antics.

  344. I live in Amsterdam, I feel that Rory would fit right in (as long as he likes cycling). He can come on a boat trip around the canals and I’m sure I can find a windmill for him to see somewhere.

  345. I live in Southeast Minnesota, which sounds boring but is really the most beautiful place in the Midwest. I’m sure Rory wants to hang out in nature and spin yarn with me and my friends. (I swear I’m not a hippie, even though that probably makes it sounds like I am.) Also, I’m a librarian, and I work in a library that sorta looks like a church, and we’re going to have hundreds of crazy new first-year students in for a game night in a few weeks. That’s gotta be Rory’s bag, right?

  346. I could take Rory on a tour of Oxford colleges. He needs to see England, it’s where the words come from 🙂

  347. Too many comments to read before going out to work this morning, so I don’t know if anyone has already asked for this, but could we get a back view of Rory to print out? It seems as though he’s not actually taking the time to look at the sights. I’d like to take him to the zoo and introduce him to the animals rather than just having him posing in front of them.

  348. Oh, I can just see me stalking the local wildlife at home and introducing Rory to our noisy wombat. He’s just a couple of weeks too late to hang out on Wimbledon common with me and a small but furiously happy Orinoco Womble, but I’ll buy new printer ink and do my best for him.

  349. I live in Las Vegas and can think of 10 places off the top of my head that Rory would love to come and see. I can even invite him to come check out some amazing roller derby 😀 agburkemper@gmail.com

  350. I’d love to take Roy with me on the school bus on the first day of school! Also, I bet he’d love to come to the high school cross country races with me.

  351. Hello. My husband, Scott, and I are traveling to Spain in October and would love to take Rory along as our travel mate.

It would be quite fitting as I was reading your first book three years ago while this same husband of mine was in the hospital having surgery. Your book kept me laughing and crying through that adventure — I even read parts outloud to him until he begged me to stop because laughing was making him hurt.

Please send us a Rory so we can add some raccoon rambocousness to our trip.

  352. Hi! Love Love this!!!!! Yes, I have done this with a gnome for a friend for her Aunt who could not travel — the gnome went to LA, New Orleans, to Vegas (he even got a photo with “Elvis” at my brother’s wedding!) – to name a just a few of the places he went. I think Rory needs to go everywhere — but I live in AZ so I think he needs to go on a road trip to the Grand Canyon, and all the places in between with the scrapbook ladies (i.e. my friends!) I would love to get a Rory! He would fit in fine with five crazy women on a road trip! This would get us off our asses to plan the trip!!! OMG!! it would be the best!

  353. Well, if he’d like to come to Germany I’d gladly show him around Cologne. See the Dome and the river Rhine, that sort of thing…

  354. Rory is visiting a Dutch printer as we speak: waiting for him to come out and show him around! If he behaves he can come with us to Italy in September. I he does not behave he will still come with us to Italy in September 🙂

  355. Hey Jenny, I’m going to London in September to see Mr. Cumberbatch as Hamlet. I could try to introduce him to Rory at the stage door afterwards. No promises, but I will try. And at the very least I can show him around London…. and Frankfurt, when I come home. I am sooooo looking forward to your book. Cheers, Rike

  356. I would love to take him Zip lining in the Shenandoah Mountains and Hiking in VA, then I can give him a tour of Washington DC, and show him some battle fields!

  357. If you don’t mind sending Rory to Europe all on his own, I can show him the not-in-any-tourist-guide town I grew up in. Also, cows, probably.

  358. PSC 817 Box 3957
    FPO, AE 09622-0040
I live in Naples, Italy and I would love to take him see mount Vesuvius!
Also, I live on the military base so don’t write ‘italy’ on the package or it will never get here. Oh and shipping will cost the same as if you were mailing within the continental US bc it’s military; )

  359. I’m from Aberdeen Scotland UK. At the end of September I’m going on a canal holiday with my mum and dad. We are going on the Kenett and Avon canal and it’s going to be a lock fest!

I would love to have a Rory to take with me on the trip. The train journey can be rather lonely. If I don’t get sent one in time I can always make my own. I love the idea of this as its wonderfully daft.

    My email addy is flubber2kool@gmail.com
This was inspired by the little green fella so this tells you how mad I am.

I hope you get lots of response cause you deserve it!

  360. I’m live in Aberdeen Scotland UK. At the and of September I’m travelling down to England for a holiday on the Kennet & Avon canal on a narrow boat with my parents. I’m looking forward to it and I think Rory would enjoy it to. Also the train journey to England ales ages so it would be great to have to the company.

I would love a Rory but if I can’t get one in time I’ll print my own off. I think this is a wonderfully daft idea. I hope you get a big response. You deserve it.

    My email addy is flubber2kool@gmail.com

  361. I’m happy to show Rory around Vegas. There’s lots of trouble to be had here.

  362. Eh, another printerless on vacation here. Two days earlier and I could have taken Rory to Zurich..

  363. I have taken a can opener in the shape of a bird to Mexico-he read fear of flying in the airport and his name is Perico, did a whole flat Stanley excursion-we met pirates(I would add a photo if I knew how)! So I feel like I’m qualified to take Rory on an adventure. Please and thank you! You are a light in the dark and I would be happy to try and give some back.

  364. Ok, so it’ll be a while coming, but in October I’m going to Antarctica – does Rory want to meet some penguins? (my username at gmail)

  365. I think Rory needs to visit the City Dock in downtown Annapolis Maryland . How about Gettysburg PA. We could have a double photo shoot!

  366. I see Rory has many invitations to London (where I work) but not Surrey! I think I shall show him the wonders of Epsom & Sandown race courses, Guildford Cathedral, Leith Hill (Tallest point in surrey!) and even the Mayfield Lavender fields! Maybe if he’s well behaved I’ll take him to Kent too!

  367. Rory needs to come to Romania, The Land of Dracula (or Vlad Tepes aka The Impaler, the Voivode of Wallachia, as we Romanians always like to remind foreigners) – he’s toothy enough to make it big here . 🙂

  368. Awesome idea! I can’t wait to see pictures of others with Rory! If I’m still an office worker, I will make a print out and place it on my desk next to my monitor. I can’t wait for your book too!

  369. I have a farm. And miniature ponies. Rory wants to come ride the ponies in SC!!!

  370. In September, I’m going to be traveling to New Orleans for Southern Decadence (the South’s largest LGBT festival), Toronto for the film festival, and also rural Massachusetts and NYC. There’s so much for Rrory to see! Also, I live in Mammoth Lakes, CA, which is a lovely area in the Sierra Nevadas where Rory can frolic with his brethren and perhaps meet a bear!

  371. Hmmm. would you like some pics of Rory going on a tour of a particle accelerator in the UK?

  372. I live in Vicenza in Northern Italy and could take Rory to see Venice, Verona (Roreo and Juliet?), and all over this region. I am also battling the fear of getting out of my comfort zone and seeing things. I only get to live here for a short time and I’ve come a long way in convincing myself that I am ok and can go. It’s hard to talk about. Maybe Rory would help to give me the confidence to boldly go… By the way, we’re associated with the military so shipping isn’t any extra 🙂 My email is bellissimadarling@gmail.com

  373. The Minnesota State Fair! I’m sure all of these foreign countries people are traveling to are lovely (I’ve been to many of them, so I know they are), but you’ve never lived until you’ve been to the Minnesota State Fair, aka The Great Minnesota Get-Together!

But I’m just going to make my own Rory. I hope no one minds if I put him in a Twins jersey. When in Rome, er, Minneapolis…

  374. Rory would LOVE toronto and Northern Ontario – it’s filled with so many of his cousins!

  375. My husband and I are going on The Rock Boat in January… (Www.therockboat.com) – it’s a music festival on a cruise ship. Rocky could hang out with a bunch of rock stars – I’m sure he’d have a blast.

We travel a lot to go to concerts and have a few trips planned for the fall…We’d love to being Rocky with us!

  376. Barbara
I’m a classical pianist and I’d love to take Rory to my next concert – he looks like he’s starving for some Rachmanninoff.

  377. Pretty sure Rory needs to hang out at the arch. With it being the gateway to the west and all. Plus, a Budweiser tour because I’ll need a beer after going to the top of the arch for the first time!

  378. I think Rory would enjoy northern Wisconsin and the great lakes! This is just a fantastic idea, I can’t wait to see the photos come in! With so much ugliness in the world today, it is so refreshing and fabulous to know that people are putting fun and laughter and magic back in.

  379. I believe that Rory is going to find himself on a hot air balloon ride in October

  380. I live in Sydney Australia, I could show him the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Opera house

  381. How about Venice, Italy
I live in Venice and I am sure Rory would love it here!

  382. Rory needs to see St. Augustine, Florida. It’s the oldest city in the United States and is about to celebrate its 450th anniversary.

  383. I’m going to a super fancy wedding in Mallorca, Spain in September, and think that Rory needs to go! We can even get him a little top hat so he doesn’t feel under dressed.

  384. I’d love to take Rory to Ibiza with me, if he were to arrive in time (I go Sept 3rd) or else sight seeing around London, UK!

  385. please send Rory to Rome! I would take him through thousands of years. And drink some wine with him, too.
Ps: you have seen the movie Amelie, right? Asking because of the traveling gnome meme… You would love that movie!

  386. I can offer Rory a holiday in England – he could come to watch Shakespeare in an outdoor theatre in Chester

  389. I live in Wisconsin, land of cheese, the Packers, Harry Houdini and many raccoons. And lots of taxidermy friends for Rory to see.

  390. We’re leaving for Yellowstone in a few days and although someone else has already commented that they’ll take Rory there, I will try to as well. I’ll print him out and lovingly place him in my carry-on bag between the granola bar and my Saturday undies. Maybe he can be my therapy raccoon on the plane as I’m claustrophobic and afraid of heights – although I’ve got tools to use now that I’ve seen a therapist about it all! Rory can be my new tool. Hm, that doesn’t sound right.

  391. Holy crap. I’m excited. I have printed Rory and he is totally coming home with me to play with the puppies, investigate the joys of rural Southern Ontario and come to work with me. What self respecting cardboard raccoon doesn’t want to experience a government job? This is my kind of travel since home is my favourite (and safe) place to be.

  392. I’m pretty sure Rory needs to walk across the longest covered bridge in the world. Or learn how to become a blacksmith in 1860. Or visit a provincial Legislative Assembly. Or all of the above.

  393. We’d love to have Rory join us on our September vacation. Six of us, a family reunion of sorts, are going to San Diego and Palm Springs. We’ll be seeing all the sights in those cities, plus a lot of lounging around too. We are even going to do a winery tour in Temecula. I think Rory probably would love that, don’t you? Please send us a Rory, there is always room for one more.
Ten years ago sixteen of us went to Key West for a birthday celebration. Ed the head, a mannequin head joined us for the trip and went everywhere with us. He was last seen with a new friend at the Southernmost Point.
So you see, having Rory join us will almost be a family tradition.

  394. Love this! Wish I could have taken him on our three week, 5,000 mile roadtrip we just returned from, but if Rory wants to see the Rocket City, I’d love to take him on a tour.

  395. Rory needs to come hang out in dynamic Denton, Texas! If you haven’t seen our historic courthouse on the square, you are missing out.

  396. Heading over to Europe September 2nd. Will be in Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Tallin, Stockholm, St Petersburg, Helsinki, and Berlin. Would love to have Rory along for the trip!

  397. I would love a Rory to take with me to the cemeteries! I like to photograph there. It is the perfect place to go for those of us that have anxieties and just don’t want to be around people. Maybe he will see a raccoon as well while we are there! I would try to get a pic of them together unless of course I see foaming of the mouth . Then if the real raccoon chases me, sorry Rory, you are on your own til the coast is clear, then I will be back for you. I will take care of any wounds you have! But then again Rory may have super powers and can take down a rabid coon in one fell swoop!
    jen

  398. I live in Orlando, but am currently working in Philly and travel a lot to DC. I’m also going to Nashville in November. He can come with me to all these places.

  399. Love this! Wish I could have taken him on our 3-week, 5,000 mile roadtrip we just returned from, but if Rory wants to see the Rocket City, I’d love to give him a tour.

  401. I need a Rory! My family and I are heading to a wedding in San Francisco next month, taking a few days to visit Napa, then heading to London and Paris for several weeks in the Fall. Bonus – I live in DC, so in between the trips, Rory will get to visit all the monuments with my adorable 7 month old son as a sidekick. It literally doesn’t get more patriotic than that. Alexandrabfrank@gmail.com

  402. So there’s a new punchline to an old joke: How do you get to Carnegie Hall? Follow Rory.

There’s also a joke in gluing a raccoon to “something stiff”, but I won’t go there.

Now I’m off to print my own Rory and send him to the Parthenon…in Nashville. It’s not the real Parthenon, but it’ll do.

  403. I live in Atlanta, where there are plenty of Rory-worthy sites, but I am going to Paris in September and would be happy to take Rory to the top of the Eiffel Tower

  404. I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to take Rory #69 on our annual Hootchie motorcycle trip…just me and 30+ of my closest friends. He would have a blast!

  406. I’d love to have Rory come to my wedding, and around Boston and Baltimore with me! sylverice AT gmail.com

  407. Rory really wants to visit North Jersey – I can feel it! Also, I have a coworker that we lovingly torment with squirrel items and I feel like Rory would like to visit and see the varied squirrel decorations that are in my office (we’re considering dabbling in getting a taxidermy squirrel to add to the decor!) Plus I’d show him actual sites around the area! my e-mail is gimmemysnackpack@gmail.com if Rory can come to visit! 🙂

  408. I hope there is enough time and you find the destinations worthy, but I would love to take Rory to Niagara Falls, Canada and then to roller coaster filled days at Ceder Point, Ohio. It is my dream trip of a life time and my 50th birthday present to ME! You are a magic and amazing woman. My trip is September 1 to 7.

  410. Rory needs to come visit me in Hiroshima, then join me on the school trip to Nara and Kyoto in October! chinotenshi @ gmail.com

  411. Rory can come hang with me at Disney World. Also here in Orlando we have the Holy Land Experience. I think maybe he DEFINITELY has to visit that.

  412. NASA in Huntsville!! We can take Rory so many places here, like the ISS operations center, to visit the urine processing team’s lab where they turn ASTRONAUT PEE INTO THE WATER THEY DRINK… I feel like Rory would appreciate that. I’m at ash@ashleychappell.com.

  413. I’ll be visiting Washington DC in October and I really think Rory needs to go tot he white house. OR recreate the reflecting pool scene from Forrest Gump. “Jennnay!” “Rorrrrryyyy” I think it could be a real winning experience for him. lxmrrw@gmail.com

(Time it for the Labor Day weekend and I’ll throw in the White Mountains of NEW HAMPSHIRE for free!!!!)

  425. I would love to take Rory out on the town in Waco (others know it as Wacko), Texas and share some sights with him. I also have friends in Dallas and Austin that I could pass him on to… tag, they will be it. Several years ago I “borrowed” my boss’ Jelly Belly Man dispenser and held it hostage while taking pictures of it everywhere so I’m familiar with the required crazy picture requirements. Just to let you know JB Man did arrive home safely, was not harmed and all is well now. If interested in letting the cardboard-stand-in Rory take a spin through Wacko, you can contact me at lorettamhoward@gmail.com. Have a blessed day and cannot wait to read the new book! Warmest regards, Loretta

  426. I am a huge fan of yours, but my best friend is an even bigger one!! I would like to ask for a Rory for her. We both belong to a medieval re-enactment group, and I think Rory should go on some of our road trips to tournaments and battles and visit the new middle ages! Since she is out in the city all day he will also get to see the Calgary Zoo, the Calgary Tower, Devonian Gardens, Calaway Park, and so many other local landmarks. Road trips are such a part of our group, maybe he’ll go shopping at Edmonton Mail, or go to see the dinosaurs at The Royal Tyrell Museum. Knowing my friend, Rory will have jet lag since she’ll probably bring him with her when we go to Europe in October!

  427. I’d love to bring Rory back to Shanghai with me when I move back next week, but timing wouldn’t work. That being said, I’m not above printing then mounting Rory on cardboard and making my own! We’ll have lots of guests in the next 6 months so Rory can go lots of places with us.

  428. You are brilliant, and Rory’s about to rule the fucking world! I’m pretty sure he would be happy here with me, in Canada. I can show him MY world. Shining, shimmering, splendid.

  429. Can’t wait to see where Rory goes! He just might have to hang out with me and my fuzzy felines for some New England adventures, too. Congrats on your new book!

  430. My husband works at the Large Hadron Collider at CERN in Switzerland. Rory needs to visit a particle accelerator and help take data!

  432. My daughter & I are making a whirlwind trip to Arkansas to see her Grandparents. It’s a sad trip b/c her Grandpa is in the end stages of pancreatic cancer. I printed up a Rory so he can go and liven things up. We leave Friday so pictures will be forthcoming. 🙂

  433. I would LOVE to take Rory with me when I run the Enchanted 10k at Disney World in February. I’ll even find a way to attach him to myself so he can run the 10k as well. stacybaeasm@yahoo.com

  434. I work in downtown Chicago – Rory could get cultured (though that sounds like a lab procedure, ick) with visits to the museums and parks, ride on the subway (where he might pick up something that would require a lab procedure), share some pizza and cheer for the Cubs.

  435. Oh, I would so love to have a Rory!! I promise to take him to all of my shows and share photos of him with you and make sure he never gets bent up!! Pleasepleaseplease!! 😀 (My email is drumwench@gmail.com.)

  436. Rory has a friend in Flat Stanley… He traveled, too, and had some wonderful adventures even though he was flat. Would Rory like to go sailing? If he would, I’d be happy to take him…

    fueled78282@mypacks.net

  437. Rory should come visit me on my farm in Louisiana. Maybe I can find tiny spurs for him to wear. He can have his own room. I will teach him to drive the tractor. sdogg70@hotmail.com

  438. Rory definitely needs to see the North Georgia Mountains and share his exploits with you! I would love to be his tour guide! 🙂

  439. I kind of want to print a whole bunch of Rorys and just leave him in random places. Taped to bathroom stalls, tucked into coffee shop windows, a bookmark in hotel room Bibles. Just a little bit of magic for the next person to find.

  440. Would Rory like to help me celebrate my 66th birthday driving through the champagne area of France? We can take turns being the designated driver. But first we fly to Budapest where we will spend a week visiting my friends who have a 3 year old daughter. She is so excited to be meeting me, her new English-speaking friend from America. Just imagine how she will love meeting Rory! We leave September 6th. janetlee84@hotmail.com

  441. Louisville has tons of horse statues that he just needs to be seen on. Also this giant golden David (yes, the naked one).

I work in a library, too, so he can hang out in the stacks and read books while I work.

  442. It’s like you are the multi-million dollar actor that can’t do his own stunts because he might get hurt and the studio has invested in him! We are SO invested, we need you MENTALLY healthy!!
IN fact Rory should go on tour for you!!!

  443. I love this! I’ve always wanted to do something like this. 🙂 Have you seen the movie “Up In The Air” with George Clooney? In it his sister and her fiancé can’t afford a honeymoon so they send him (he travels all of the time for business) with a cardboard cutout of themselves to take pictures the places he goes. It’s a great movie.
Anyway, I’d love to take Rory around western NC, and the upstate of SC. We also have a trip coming up that he can come on. And a three legged dog he can pose with.
    dlzecher@gmail.com

  444. I think you should send one to Calliope in Louisville. I am originally from So. Indiana (Kentuckiana if you will) and there are cool sites there plus, maybe, she will take him to the best flea market, Joe Ley’s!

  445. So, I’m traveling a lot through the rest of the year & I think Rory would be a perfect addition to my travels. And I’ll even take him to see a little of St. Louis.

  446. I already took a vacation this summer to sunny Florida for a family gathering(not sure how exciting that photo would be) so I’ve decided to print him out and stand him in my Drama Classroom. Now that’s going to be fun! I’m also printing out your phrase “you are stardust”. That’s going up in the room this year. Thanks, Jenny. Love you!

  447. I think Rory should hang out with me in St Louis! I just moved back and need a partner to explore the city again. I volunteer with the Crawl for Cancer and have a few different cities coming up, so already have Cincinnati, Wichita, and Kansas City on his itinerary too!

  448. I am sure Rory would love to explore the mountains of North GA with me! We may even meet some of his cousins.

  449. Whenever I hear tell of Rory McIlroy, professional golfer currently ranked number one in the world, I invariably think of your Rory, raccoon star of Furiously Happy and other of life’s wonderments. So my goal is a pic of the two together. But we’ll paint the town red plaid if I were to be honored with my own flat raccoon >> aleciayancik@gmail.com

  450. I’d take pictures of Rory with socks in progress. I’ve taken pictures of hand knit socks in progress and completed socks on some of my travels (Ireland, Disneyland, meeting Jenny Lawson), so this feels like “Worlds Collide, Jerry”! : )

  451. Would Rory like to come to Italy with me and my husband this fall? Or to St. Augustine, FL, to a book festival? Or to Austin, TX, where I live, and will happily cart him along like my wingman everywhere I go all over this badass town? Send him along…!

  452. Since you won’t be visiting Tucson on your book tour, I’m going to have to print off my own Rory (I’m far too impatient to wait for snail mail) and show him the sights of the Old Pueblo. Tucson is the biggest one-horse cow town in the world, which means it is chock-full of awesomeness/ridiculousness. Plus, there are live raccoons living in the attic of the empty house next door to us and they like to hang out on our patio before going home, so maybe Rory can hang with them.

  453. We drive all over California and have trips planned to Monterey and SF in the coming months. Plus, my mom is going to Africa in October. Rory could go on photo safari with her! SharonLJ2003@yahoo.com

  454. I’m headed from Seattle to London in ten days, I’ll sneak Rory into my bag. I’m traveling alone so he will make great company, I’m sure!

  455. I’m taking my daughter to college this month . . . Rory should go to move in day too! Who knows what other great sites will turn up in the great state of Ohio?!

  456. First thing I thought of was horseback riding & then I saw it in your post.
We’ll have to do some Kirtland OH shots for you 🙂
Since my place of work has a colored copy machine – I can make my own Rory 🙂 Shhhhhh

  457. I am 100% positive (possibly even 110%) that Rory would love to go geocaching with me and my friend. We meet such interested people on our travels (just yesterday we met a nice homeless gentleman who offered to share his 40 with us). We also shared a table with a bunch of cops at a very crowded Chipotle. We also went hiking in the rain. (Don’t worry, I’ll make a poncho for Rory).

  458. My 14 year old had to cancel an exchange trip to France because she felt she didn’t have the spoons to deal with medical issues. Turned out she made the right call because she developed panic attacks right around the time they were scheduled to be overseas.

We live in Boston so I could show Rory the sights before you come in October. I’m also going to Denver for work and we’re driving up to Portland and Acadia after that. kelly [at] marold dot org

  459. I’m pretty sure he would scare some of the horses, but I feel that he does, in fact, need to go horseback riding so he can come ride mine (who is brand new to me so might as well get used to my idea of fun hobbies now). And also see some of the sights of Connecticut, which is a lovely place when it isn’t buried under five feet of snow. jdrusillacarter@gmail.com

  460. Wow – if you don’t make a “Where’s Rory?” coffee-table photography book out of this, coffee tables everywhere will be the sadder for it…. I’m excited to see all the places he will go!

  461. Oh my! Rory needs to see the I-80 Largest Truckstop in the World…too bad it’s not a few weeks earlier….he could have experienced Trucker Jamboree!

  462. Rory needs to come to Book Club with me. We read “Let’s Pretend…” when it came out and it was a club favorite. Would love to have Rory with us as we enjoy the new book. He could be an honorary member, as long as he remembers that what happens at book club, stays at book club.

  463. Rory needs to come to Western NC. She can go hiking, drink beer and pose with public art. She also must see the Biltmore Estate.

  464. Jumping on the Colorado train, Rory would have a great time in Boulder! We could wander Pearl Street, go for a bike ride, maybe climb a mountain or two. Does Rory like rock climbing? I bet he’d like rock climbing.

  465. Rory should come visit me in Abu Dhabi….we can check out all the sites and also visit Dubai. Think about the friendships to be made on desert safaris and camel races!

  466. I would love to show Rory around Canada’s capital city… Ottawa! He can see Parliament buildings, go to the Prime Minister’s house, eat a beaver tail, skate the Canal if he can’t make it until winter – so many things for him to do!

  467. I would LOVE to have a Rory to explore with. I’m from Chattanooga (yes, THAT Chattanooga) and there is so much more here than has been in the news lately. History (google it), weird things (tow truck museum anyone?), cool things (Ruby Falls), outdoor things (TONS)… Anyway, I think Rory would love it. behindblueeyes3050@yahoo.com

  468. I would like to show Rory Ottawa, the capital of Canada. And the Rideau Canal — very cool btw. And my backyard — not as cool as the Rideau Canal, but pretty nice. He could also join me on my first ever vacation in September — I am going to Dartmouth MA with my wonderful and amazing daughter and an equally wonderful and amazing friend. Rory would love to see Plymouth Rock and enjoy the senic drive from Ottawa to Boston. We may go via Montreal …

  469. I’m in! I’m headed to Puerto Escondido/San Jose/ and Oaxaca Mexico at the end of the month. Also I live in DC! I think Rory needs to see the white house. 🙂

  470. I am, sadly, not able to commit to taking good enough pictures of Rory (I was vaguely panicked about getting enough pictures, particularly good ones, when a friend’s child sent us a Flat Stanley – literally panicked about not doing well enough for them).

But I AM looking for new online reading material – I recognize some, but not all, of the bloggers in the pictures you posted. Would you post links?

  471. I would love a Rory! I live in Canada, in one of the top tourist destinations. Also, my husband was woken up the other night by a couple of live Rorys in our backyard. And my middle child insists on closing all bathroom doors because “Raccoons”. And then my mom came home a few weeks ago to a raccoon in her bathroom.

  472. I get most of my furious happy sitting on the sofa at home reading, but if you send him to me I promise to take him to my weekly appointment at the local animal shelter when my daughter and I cuddle kittens (so.many.kittens) and maybe visit the delightful local historical sites.

And also, this post made me furiously happy, because we didn’t get to go on vacation this year, and I am vicariously enjoying Rory’s adventures.

  473. I’ll be vacationing in the Outer Banks of NC in September– a very cool spot, very pirate-intensive, but lovely beaches. I also live in Charlottesville, VA, so I may be able to arrange a photo at Monticello…

  474. My cousins and I are 20 years apart in age and have lived over 2,000 miles away from each other all our lives. Recently we’ve been bonding over our shared battles with anxiety, panic and eating disorders, and we’re going to get together for the first time ever in 2 weeks to do a road trip in the Pacific Northwest. Rory would be a welcome addition in the 4th seat of our car as we explore rainforests, Mt. Rainier and the most northwestern tip of the contiguous U.S. Come play with us, Rory! moniquel007@msn.com

  475. Muskoka, Canada (God’s country)…..Rory would travel with me on the back of a motorcycle….:)

  476. I would love to introduce Rory to the Fuzzy Brothers (aka my hilarious cats-Isaac and Buddy). I feel like Buddy’s reactions in particular would be fun to capture, since he is the type of cat who will get baffled and/or scared by odd things, such as the blanket he is sitting on (which just happened).

  477. I live in Hawaii! I’d love to host Rory! Please send me one? And my name is Jenny too. Email me please: hippofairy at hotmail dot com … Thanks Jenny!

  478. I am part of a professional BBQ team. We travel all over competing in BBQ competitions! We can take him with us. He an help cook some ribs.

  479. I live on Vancouver Island on Canada’s west coast. I fought depression and anxiety for years and your blog has been such a boost for me, many times over! Rory cracks me up every time I see him!

When I feel rough, I go look at the ocean. I’d love to take Rory (and you!) to my favourite spot.

    xoxo

  480. This is so fun!! We are going on a roadtrip to Yellowstone. Pretty sure Rory needs to see Old Faithful & other nature-y type things! 😀

  481. Rory would fit right in here in beautiful and weird Portland, OR. Send him my way!

  482. If no one else has offered yet, I could totally get Rory to the world’s largest ball of twine (by one man) in Minnesota. I grew up driving by it in the dude’s yard. Now it has it’s own glassed in gazebo, which is fortunate because it smells terrible.

  483. If you think Rory would enjoy Northern Ontario Canada, I can send you photos next to a very large Polar Bear named Ganuk in Cochrane Ontario, a kick ass mining head frame in Timmins Ontario, a UFO in Moonbeam Ontario, and perhaps a big Nickel in Sudbury. Tracy idella@hotmail.ca

  484. Ever heard of Noah Webster? Well, all he did was invent the entire dictionary. Think Rory should meet him (or his statue or all of his old stuff they have kept at his ridiculously old and tiny house)? Me too.

  485. Jenny,

Rory made me send a reply to this post. Normally, I don’t respond to the internet, but that raccoon of yours speaks to me, and I want one. Not a cardboard version. I want a cuddly, carry him around version that won’t freak out people the way taxidermied animals always do. (Who could possibly freak out when they see a smile like that?)
Why isn’t the publisher INSISTING that life-size Rory ‘dolls’ be manufactured as a tie-in?!? Think of the sales! No, I’m not suggesting that they put out a call for legions of raccoons to be hunted and preserved to look like Rory. (None of us would buy a taxidermied raccoon that did not simply die of old age after a happy and carefree life anyway.)
Call your agent/editor/publisher and get them to make all of us our own Rory.
Then tell Victor. If you talk to him first, he’ll tell you that no one would be crazy enough to buy imitation taxidermied raccoons. But Victor’s wrong! There are plenty of us who are crazy enough to buy a genuine replica of a literary raccoon!
However, don’t tell MY husband about this idea. Seriously. Don’t tell my husband. He already thinks that you and I are really, really disturbed–not dangerous, just disturbed. He’ll also get “extra concerned” if he finds out that I actually sent a reply to the internet.

With warmest regards and hopes for a Rory of my own,
Cool Auntie Susan (Too old to be hot, so now I’m cool–according to my niece.)

P.S. And what about a Hamlet von Schnitzel? I would sooooo buy him too!
P.P.S. I can’t wait until you get to Boston. You’ve been on my calendar (in permanent marker!) since the day you announced the tour!
P.P.P.S. Sorry for such a long reply, but it’s my first one EVER, and it was an incredibly important topic!

  486. My wonderful friend Julia already asked for Rory to visit wonderful friend #2 Courtney in Reston next weekend, but may I please have him in Richmond before that to welcome wonderful friend #3 Beth from the UK? I can print him if the demand is as overwhelming as it looks but figured I’d ask as well! laurelyn.c.collins@gmail.com

  487. /Users/jwysokowski/Desktop/Rory_Uptown.JPG
    /Users/jwysokowski/Desktop/Rory_Downtown.JPG

Rory visited my office roof. He posed looking uptown and downtown. He is a little blurry because it was windy, and I had to take the photo of him over a five foot fence. 😉

I don’t know if this will work in the post. So I’m going to tweet it, too.

  488. You should be proud of yourself Jenny for being brave and making this journey. I hear you about the panic attacks and leaving the comfort of your home. I took a big step myself by deciding to travel across the ocean to see family. The last time I saw them was ten years ago at our mothers funeral, so many changes over that length of time but I know everything will be great.

You’re loved Jenny, we’ve never met you but you bond with our souls through your honesty, connecting with the selves that we desperately try to hide. I’ve stopped hiding, I’ve told my family about my illness (now they can say “oh yeah, that’s why she acts the way she does”). I tend to be a bit out there and it makes me happy to know I’m not the only one. Your tour will be filled with caring, supportive people and will be amazing! Too bad I live in Canada I would have loved to meet you.

I am going to take your expressive racoon with me on my trip. I leave in a few days, so thanks for the pdf file. I can fulfill a few of the places as I’m going to France (might not get to Paris though) I will be going on a goat cheese farm tour though, I think he’d really like that! I will also take him horseback riding in the New Forest, England. So there are a few items off his bucket list,…although, technically, he’s past that now. So, off we go on Monday your ex. racoon and I to merry ole England. Cool!

  489. Hiya!!!!! We are going to DISNEY on 8/12 so i’ll definitely would like to take Rory with us. We’ll be going ziplining, bowling, skating, paintballing and of course to as many Disney Parks as we can. Afterwards, i’ll send him over to PA to visit with my sister and of course to PR with the rest of the family. He will have a grand ole time. betsygonzalez2@aol.com

  490. I think I see a little red in Rory’s fur. Perhaps he’s Scottish or Irish and would like to go with me across the pond in October. Pack his little bag and away we’ll go.

  491. Are you kidding?!? Rory needs to go EVERYWHERE with me. I even have a knitted beaver wearing a hand-knit sweater named Bernadette (I’m taking care of her since her mother passed away) and I think they’d be a lovely couple.

  492. My magical Unicorn Zephyrus — who masquerades as a cremello quarter horse — would love to forge new trails with Rory in the the wilds of Griffith Park (it’s LA so he may have a “been there, done that” moment but I hope not).

  493. I’m located on Vancouver Island, and would love to show Rory around Victoria and perhaps the Gulf Islands!

  494. I want to take him into the mountains with me in Utah! We can visit some mountaintops and then go see some red rock in southern Utah (and possible the grand canyon if he’s polite)

  495. I would take Rory to The Garden of 1000 Buddhas near Missoula, MT. 😀 Also, he’d hike the M and maybe visit the University. I guess if he’s in MT he should see some mountains as well. 😀

  496. If no one has already suggested it, I think Rory should visit the Freemont Troll which lives under a bridge in Seattle, WA. I would be happy to help make that happen. 🙂

  497. I live in Paris, and I think you are the awesomest. I’d be happy to show Rory around a bit & photograph him visiting the City of Light!

  498. Oh Jenny, I so need a Rory. I just finished up a year of presidency in a club I belong to, and I took the Presidential Gavel all over (Route 66 road trip, diving in Turks & Caicos, to England for Xmas) and posted pix on a FB “Gavel Travels” page. I had to relinquish the gavel to the new president and I feel its loss keenly. Rory would be the best, nay, the ONLY appropriate successor. Leslie at lester226@verizon.net.

  499. Rory must visit the Witch City, Salem, MA! I’ve already printed out my own copy of Rory, so I’ll be sure he gets a proper sightseeing tour 😀

    Jess C.

  500. I want to take him to Norway with me on August 21st! An I live in Austin.

  501. I think Rory needs to come see the alligators and raccoons and nutrias at the Audubon Zoo. And maybe even the ropes course. (Yes, our zoo has a ropes course. And a water park. And a dinosaur exhibit. And recipes on the walls next to some of the tastier exhibits.)

  502. I would love to show Rory Iceland! We’ll be going there in October, we’ll be seeing geysers, volcanoes, waterfalls and hopefully the Northern Lights!

  503. Americans living in Germany…..I would love to take Rory to Octoberfest in Munich this fall!!!!

  504. I live in the Bay Area, and although I am single and don’t really take “vacations” (I mean it’s stupid expensive to live here), but I am near enough to San Francisco that there are some fantastic things for Rory to see and do here! While not being a tourist, he can live at my office and I’m sure my coworkers would love him because they know I’m bizarre 🙂

  505. Going to be adventuring in South East Asia and think Rory would make a pretty fantastic travel buddy 🙂

  506. I live in Pittsburgh and work at the University of Pittsburgh, which has the tallest educational building in the Western Hemisphere, the Cathedral of Learning. It’s like Hogwarts inside! And Dracula’s high rise outside! I’d love to take pics there!

  507. Hi Rory,
Its me again.. I just want you to know that wherever you end up. I hope you bring joy to those around you and keep spreading it as more posts of your adventures pop up. The world is a scary and dark place but it doesn’t have to be. Thanks Jenny for continuing to show the world that you can find the light and the laughter even when times get hard. Lesley_dera@yahoo.com

  508. I would love to have Rory snuggle with my cats, see Ft. Myers Beach, hang out on my lanai, Drive around Florida, and maybe ride a paddleboard..what do you think?

  509. I live in Yorkshire in the UK and work in London – please let me take Rory to Buckingham Palace to see the Queen. If he’s very good I will take him to Greece in September too. Janeth19@blueyonder.co.uk

  510. We are heading to the Badlands soon. We plan to stick our fingers up the noses of the presidents at Mt. Rushmore, and go to Wall Drug, the Corn Palace and….THE JOLLY GREEN GIANT statue!! I think Rory neeeeeds to go with us!

  511. I wish I could have had Rory with me in Paris last month. But I think Rory would dig going to see Duran Duran with me next month at the Washington State Fair, and possibly hang with me at the Tough Mudder the weekend before. And of course, I live in Portland, so he could go all over town with me on public transportation and we would be meeting you at your Powell’s event! tlgsager@hotmail.com

  512. I live in Tupelo, MS and I think Rory needs to be photographed at Elvis’s birthplace and with the assorted statuary that exist of THE KING here.

  513. I live in the British Virgin Islands and haven’t seen a raccoon since I moved here about sixteen months ago, so I’d love to have a visit from Rory. I could show him The Baths on Virgin Gorda, the bars of Jost van Dyke, and sunset from a secluded beach on Tortola, which I believe would make anyone, including a taxidermied raccoon, furiously happy! dcollins2@carolina.rr.com

  514. Rory needs to visit California, where we have no water but great tans. He can see San Francisco, Santa Cruz and Monterey and everything in between. Also tour the lovely but little thought about town of San Jose, the 10th largest populated city in the US!. My cat would be oh so thrilled for the company. Please, can Rory come here?

  515. I never go ANYWHERE but I actually will be and Rory could come with me! Over the next few months I’ll be in FL, at a women’s herbal conference in PA, at a weekend of homesteading workshops in NY state, and the Outer Banks. I also teach pilates and I’m sure he’d love to exercise a little with some of my clients- we use terrifying-looking reformer machines but it’s really lots of fun. paulasherbal@gmail.com

  516. I work at a hot dog factory, do you think he would enjoy seeing how they are made?

  517. I sure wish I had know about Rory a month ago when I took my vacation to Scotland and Ireland. I fancy he would have enjoyed a nice spot of Guinness with my travel mates and me!

  518. I’m cloning Rory and taking him to see the exotic sights of east and central Texas. I know – he’s probably seen SOME of those sights already, but I know some REALLY good places. Trust me – we’re going to have fun in Dime Box.

  519. Flat Stanley has been to space, TWICE! I think Rory needs to find a ride to the ISS. Wish I could take him.

  520. I am heading to Alaska next month, and I think Rory would like to see the glaciers, and the eagles, and the bears, and the totem poles – what’s even better is, it’ll be via a cruise ship so he can hang out with so many people!! kristenfischer@hotmail.com

  521. I. NEED. A. RORY. After I am done with him I will send him to my friends in South Korea who will be happy to take him to places they travel. They do not have children and get to places like the infamous suicide forest. Lucky bastards. I will make sure to take good care of him and feed him only the best people food.

  522. I’d love to take Rory for tour around southern Germany to visit a few castles and sample metric measures of beer. He could also classy up some formal gardens, too!

  523. I love this idea! I spent most of my life too scared to leave the hotel (or my house for that matter). I would love to take Rory to Vancouver, Toronto and Paris over the next few months! He can hang out with my puppy Rufus, who will love him. Also, have you heard of Conrad the Racoon’s vigil in Toronto. That story made my heart melt, and if you haven’t heard about it already you should take a moment to read this (http://www.cbc.ca/news/trending/deadraccoonto-honoured-by-toronto-with-sidewalk-vigil-1.3146036) because it is totally your jam.

  524. Rory proooobably needs to come hang out in Chicago. I hope he likes deep dish pizza. Man. Now I am REALLY craving some deep dish pizza.

  525. I would love to take Rory to Mackinac Island, MI. My family and I are going there in a couple of weeks, and he’d love to sample some fudge and hang out at the Grand Hotel. 🙂

  526. Rory could come visit me in Carinthia, Austria! We have beautiful landscapes with lots of lakes and mountains and a 300ft tower on top of a mountain that will give him a good view of a lot of it. We also have an open air museum with miniatures of a lot of famous buildings from all over the world (most of them are about hip-hight, so they would make for good background for pictures with a furiously happy racoon). He could join us in building our own new home or, if the time is right he could join us on a family vacation to the coast of Croatia, or a short camping trip to a lake high up in the mountains.

If there aren’t enough European places he could visit to get a mail-chain started just let me know and I’ll make my own Rory.

  527. I’m not travelling anywhere but if Rory would like to see the birthplace of the toll house cookie, I’d be happy to take him.

  528. I’d be happy to take Rory to the top of the St. Louis Arch. And, also the bottom of the Arch, I guess. We have to get up to the top from somewhere. I will be happy to take pictures in the ridiculously small egg elevator thing, too. No way you’d ever enter that thing. It is terrifying for all…Rory and I will do it for you.
This may be an issue for you, but I have a terrifying fear of sloths. Like a legit, recurring nightmare, fear of them. (Only three toed sloths, though. Two toed sloths aren’t nearly as evil). So, there will be no sloth hugging pictures of me and Rory. Unless that’s a deal breaker…for you, I’d let a sloth hug me. That is true friendship there.

  529. We’re going to Vancouver in October. He’s gonna go to Hockey night in Canada!

  530. I think Rory needs to come on a tour of London. The eye, the shard, maybe a nice wine tasting at the Barbican? Then out to Kent to pose with birds of prey, and maybe even to the tower to meet the ravens. Merlina is my favourite, I bet she’d like him. Also, we can take him to the place where the oldest human skull ever was found. Oh the places he’ll go!

  531. Next month I’m challenging myself to conquer my biggest fear: open water. I’m taking the NADI scuba course and forcing myself to do the required dives, even if I never again use my certification, just so I can push myself and try to be a better me. Rory’s probably not waterproof, but if he’d fit in a gallon-sized baggy that might just do the trick….

  532. My daughter, who is seven, is just as insane as I am. Rory SO needs to go to 2nd grade with her!

  533. I am going to Washington DC and Baltimore next month and I would love to bring Rory with me! He can visit all the sights with me and then I won’t be going alone, he could be my travel companion. Please send me a Rory!

  534. I am so glad it’s not just me who has an obsession with a non-human travel companion. My daughter is actually jealous of Eric, my travel gnome. He’s been on 4 continents already and too many countries to count. Also in airplane cockpits, boat wheelhouses, etc. It’s a sickness…

  535. This is going to be awesome. You could probably make a coffee table book from the photos and relive all of Rory’s travels.

Oh, and the world’s largest ball of twine? Been there. It’s pretty cool!

  536. I’d love to take Rory up to the canadian rockies! and then introduce him to my chickens in bragg creek (from a distance of course) 🙂

  537. Does Rory want to take a tour of the prison where I work? I’m also going to sacramento this month, and camping in some northern california woods.

  538. This makes ME #furiouslyhappy! So wonderful. (I love how it looks like Rory is photoshopped into all of the photos, even though he was actually there. Hee.)

  539. It looks like there are already multiple people offering to take Rory on a tour of San Francisco, but if you’d like one more I’d be happy to contribute! I live in the foggiest of the foggy areas (oh Karl, you rapscallion!), so don’t be surprised if all of my photos of Rory look like they were taken inside a cloud. erin.joan.snyder@gmail.com

  540. OMG WUT. This is spectacular, and I do believe my libraries would love to have a Rory. He will adventure all over SE Michigan and NW Ohio! Your book and blog have given me so much joy over the last couple years, and I push your writing on my patrons whenever given a chance. I think Rory will only facilitate in spreading that joy 🙂

  541. Next month I’m going to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter with my mom to celebrate her birthday. We’d love to take Rory with us!

  542. Rory is furiously happy to think he might travel to Kappy’s Bar & Sandwich Place on the Tucson’s east side to meet its amazing cook and all-around amaze-r, coincidentally & also named Rory (and also furiously happy!). Surely they will bond over mutual and equally furiously happy notes about life in general …and Rory-ness in particular. Selfies, a given, I’m sure.

  543. If Roy is up for some time in the scenic Upper Mississippi River Valley, I’d be happy to show him around The Driftless Area. As a citizen of the great state of Wisconson, we can totally find a cheese factories, brewery or amish farm top crash in site.

  544. I think Rory would like to cruise the Mediterranean with me in September…Rome, Naples, Sicily, Athens, Mykonos, Santorini, Rhodes and Turkey!

  545. I believe Rory would have a wonderful time with me in good ol’ Utah and since you’re not coming here, I think you should definitely send him in your place. OH! Also I’m going to San Francisco next month to see Alcatraz and the Winchester Mystery House! Holy hell, y’all. Rory has GOT to be in on that.

    sashasashutterbug@yahoo.com

  546. We’re going to Modena and Milan, Italy (leaving on September 8th from Vermont), and spending a day at the Expo in Milan (the worlds’ fair like in the movie “Meet Me In St. Louis”). I would be very pleased to take Rory along with us and photograph his adventures for you. We once took a flamingo named Pinky along with us to Switzerland and he quite liked the salt mines and the Chateau Chillon that he got to visit. 🙂

  547. Oh, I need a Rory! I’ve been doing a photo a day thing for a few years now and would love to use him (that sounds bad, doesn’t it?) and then send him to meet my photo friends all over the world – so exciting! ljgoodman@verizon.net

  548. Those forced perspective shots are my faves, especially Rory towering over that beach like a fuzzy Godzilla! Soon as I can get my hands on the printer I shall transport Rory to my house where we shall have much furious fun. PS we have a Rory in the family rorbjhjnnnnnn and the e the rork jnbngbnnvgkjdfhhgghhfhjj and we’ve nicknamed him “Roars”… an apt one as it turns out! PS the gibberish is his, not mine – carelessly left the ipad unguarded while I got his morning tea ready 🙂

  549. I am soon excited that you are coming to Milwaukee ; can’t wait

  550. This totally rocks! Rory beats any old silly gnome any day of the week. I think he’s probably going to a writer’s conference with me this fall, even if it’s only in Lexington. Still a fun place for a crazy raccoon!

  551. My seven year old is going on a field trip to the Grammy Museum tomorrow (we are so LA sometimes it’s gross). Wanna come, Rory?

  552. I’d love to have a Rory to go with me to Florida in a couple of months. My daughter’s second daughter is due and I will be staying to help them for a month. I’m sure Faith will be happy to introduce Rory to her new sister, Eleanor. amc1gill@gmail.com

  553. I wish I could time travel so I could read this post to myself 2 weeks ago and have a Rory to join us in Louisville!! He would have loved the Urban Burban tour, methinks.

  554. so i’m not sure where to leave this or how to phrase it so i don’t sound like an absolute stalker, but i totally had a dream last night that i came over to hang out at your place, and you had this christmas light chain of red skulls that was motion activated. hailey and i were best friends, and we had a sleepover. it was amazing.

  555. I’m a 49 year old runner trying to finish 50 races by age 50 (half marathons or longer). I think Rory would love to come to my last 9 races over the next 4.5 months. There will be exciting places likes Winter Park, CO, Los Angeles, Dallas and even Tulsa, OK. Please send me a running Rory!!!!

  556. You are so clever! Getting other people to do your blog for the next 6 months, AND publicizing your book in the process!

  557. I would love a Rory! Taking a road trip from pa to new orleans, with no real plan. Who knows what Rory would see????

  558. I love this. My favorite thing is that if you can’t see the stand, Rory looks exactly like someone is really bad at photo-shop. I might get a twitter account JUST for this.

  559. I live near Chatleston, SC. I think Roy needs to come see Rainbow Row, the World’s Largest Sweet Tea and maybe some historic creepy sites like old cemeteries and Provost Dungeon downtown. I love this, it’s like flat Stanley for adults.

  560. I’ve printed, pasted & cut out Rory. He’s not going to be going anywhere super exciting, but I think he’s going to have fun. I’ll report back. 🙂

  561. Okay, end of August I can take Rory to NC coast, we have an unplanned as of yet September trip, then beginning October, to San Diego, then end October to Walker Stalker Con in Atlanta (maybe get a selfie with Norman Reedus?) hopefully a trip thanksgiving week, and then in January he can go to Orlando with me for a national veterinary conference-he would be a hit there, for sure. Dana

  562. What raccoon wouldn’t love visiting houses made into art out of, basically, garbage? Raccoon dreams are made of this…Rory should go with me to The Heidelberg Project in Detroit!

  563. I work for Barnes & Noble in the San Diego area. I would like to take Rory to work with me to get all my customers excited about your new book! I already promote Let’s Pretend this Never Happened as the most hilarious book I have ever read; the one you cannot read in bed because you keep disturbing your husband, who is trying to sleep, with your continuous outbursts of laughter!

  564. I’ve never needed anything so badly as I need this cardboard taxidermy raccoon. I’ve got so many places to take him around my college campus, and he would hang out in the dorm and go to the gym and visit strange bookstores with me.

  565. Rory!! This is amazing as we can all live vicariously through his travels!! I would love to take him around northern MA, southern NH and Maine! Can’t wait to see you in Cambridge!!

  566. Printing him! I’m going to take him to meet the Lenin in Fremont, amongst other places. Remember my house is very close to Third Place Books in Lake Forest Park, so you are welcome to hang out out on my couch, or walk the property with my puppy.

  567. I’m in the Florida Keys and I have friends all over the world who would appreciate both the sentiment and a Rory to pass on! 🙂

  568. Rory needs to come visit me here in Dallas and go on a thrifting and decorating adventure or two! Maybe make a guest appearance in a blog post?! I absolutely love this idea!!! thegatheredhome AT gmail DOT com

  569. Rory needs an education. Let me roll with Rory through the sacred halls of Stanford and maybe on a few other adventures with hippies and healers in the City (that’s San Francisco to you!). Can’t guarantee he won’t end up smelling like patchouli and weed, but then, that’s what adventures are for!

  570. I’m headed to New Zealand by myself at the end of September – I’d love to have Rory come with me!

  571. I once did something like this with a little stuffed squirrel named Bartlett.

Rory might to be as cuddly in 2D as Bartlett, but is an awful lot cuter.

    Count me in!! Please? ;0)

  572. Hello again. I’m #406. I’m not sure if you have access to the email address that shows up in the box when we leave a comment. Just in case you don’t I’m gonna leave it here too. It’s debbiedoughtyatgmaildotcom

  573. Ummm Rory totally needs to see Mobile, AL. I mean the oaks, the USS Alabama, Mardi Gras(like in January 2016) the Mardi Grad museum…. I could take Rory like anywhere! Please? It would get me out! Oh and btw my email is melissaknappwilliams@gmail.com

  574. Hi Jenny. This cracks me up. I may or may not have once “borrowed” a good friends childhood toy, created a FaceBook page of this alleged toy, and posted pictures of it galivanting about the globe…….. Right up my alley 😉

  575. oy. carpal tunnel just from scrolling down past all the other 724 comments. please send a rory to seatte. A. I have twins who are 7 and love animals and have even played with dead birds. And B. there’s a troll! in Seattle that rory needs to visit. also, we are going on a trip in a ferry. miss.pink at mac.com

  576. I’m going to Paris, France next week! I can totally take Rory with me and I’ll treat him to a tour of the catacombs, the Louvre, and he’ll be hanging out with a gay penguin, disguised as a chicken, that travels with me everywhere! I’m positive that Rory and Feathers will get along perfectly! Fairysmacker@yaho.com

  577. I would love to take Rory around Brisbane/the Sunshine Coast and maybe even the Gold Coast, here in Queensland, Australia. 🙂

  578. I live in the birthplace of Lucy Ball, and if you’ve seen around the internets the creepy Lucy statue? Yep, thats me (not actually me, just a reasonable distance away. Across from the playground. Perfect. Google the statue, it’s worth it, I promise). My very good friend is also studying abroad in France this coming semester in September, so I would be more than happy to pass Rory on to see the eiffel tower or to eat some french fries or something

  579. I’ll take Rory to see Neil Gaiman in November (with a roll of twine) and will happily take him (Rory, not Neil, but I suppose Neil can come too if he wants to) to Knott’s Berry Farm, as the mouse thing has already been done. If Rory can come out and play in October, he can run the LB Half Marathon with me and also see the Queen Mary! I promise to get him home to you, Hailey and Victor by Hanukkah at the latest.

  580. I’d love to haul Rory around the UK with me and my dogs Archie & Jazz. He might even get to pack his bags to Barcelona and Girona in September, but only if he behaves. 🙂

  581. This idea is amazing. It took me years to learn to respect my limits (and myself alon with them) instead of beating myself up about them. I can’t wait to read the new book!

  582. I kind of forgot to say I am interested in taking Rory to Fresno, CA and to see Yosemite National Park. I’m sure we can find some interesting sights for Rory to see around here.

  583. I would love to take Rory out to see the sights here in The Netherlands! Windmills, canals, tulips, stroopwafels and Amsterdam….what could possibly go wrong?

  584. I think my sweet 6 year old daughter needs to take Rory to her first day of 1st grade. He would be a hit with all the teachers.

  585. Road Trip! Driving from South Carolina to Niagara Falls and then Cedar Point Amusement park, Ohio for roller coaster heaven. I would love to take Rory for the grand adventure. Conneesc@gmail.com. I Love you and Rory.

  586. I work in Washington DC, right on the Mall. Rory needs to be at the seat of our nation’s power, bringing his furiously happy countenance to the more ordinary kind of furious we have here.

  587. Does Rory want to see the White House? The National Monument? Sit in Lincoln’s lap? Marvel at how gross the Potomac really is? I’d be happy to show him around DC, and also take him to Portsmouth, New Hampshire next month when I visit my best friend. We’ll do some historic sh*t there or whatever. It’ll be grand!

  588. I think Rory would love to visit Michigan. There are many adventures to be had including seeing lovely Lake Michigan. I think he would enjoy hearing the Blues at the last Summertime Blues concert in Grand Rapids next week and then going to ArtPrize and all of the upcoming ethnic festivals.

  589. I’d love to show Rory around Ann Arbor. Of course, my anxiety makes it hard for me to go places, but I’m sure I’ll be making a visit to the tattoo shop soon, maybe he’d enjoy that.

  590. Oh he needs to come to Kokomo. I can take his picture with this giant stuffed bull we have at a local park. I’m not joking. Plus I’m traveling to Mississippi in 2 weeks.

  591. Hi Jenny! I live in the Finger Lakes region of New York and travel whenever I get a chance to. I can take Rory to Cornell University, the Harriet Tubman House and many other sites around the region as well as the many other places I like escaping to. Here is my email: tcmassagegeek@gmail.com

  592. I don’t go anywhere. The best I could do is take a picture of your dead racoon next to my dead plants. Or a bottle of wine.

Or, wait! Next to a dead plant AND a bottle of wine. As though some sort of very creepy party were going on.

  593. Rory seems to have missed a lot of the SoCal sights when he was here, and should come back for more. Miss Nayab is a very ugly plastic sheep who is well-travelled and knows all the best places to be photographed and would be honored to act as his own personal tour guide. Hollywood Walk of Fame*, Gromans Chinese Theater, Beverly Hills Rodeo Drive, Venice Beach, a mission, Disney Concert Hall, maybe even Watts Towers.
Oooo! Rory can even go to the opera!
    * be sure to remind Rory of who your favorite stars are so he can visit their stars.
    Mastiffcat@sbcglobal.net

  594. Planning a trip to see the pyramids this fall. And a quick stop to Myrtle Beach in the next month. Rory is more than welcome to come for the ride!

  595. I don’t know why, but this post made me cry. And laugh. All at once. I totally get it. You are a brave person.

I once knew a guy with a little dog that was trained to do a kind of eerie trick. The guy would draw a pretend line with his foot and say “boundary!”. The dog would NOT cross that line for anything. I hope the little dog wasn’t scared or hurt into doing this trick. I didn’t know the guy at all — it was at a friend’s party. He was showing how he could even hold up treats and show them to the dog, but it wouldn’t cross the boundary line until he said “okay!”. It was very eerie.

I never met the guy or his dog again, but I think of the “boundary” line all the time. Sometimes you have to set boundaries with other people, and sometimes for yourself. And when you set a boundary, you really just got to stick with it, like the dog. I totally get why you don’t want to go see a bunch of sites. Interacting with so many people and reading in public for so many days…. My hat is off to you.

I hope to come see you in Boston! And if I get a chance, I’ll take Rory somewhere cool too and send a pic.

  596. We just moved to Portland, Oregon and are busy exploring. I’d love to take Rory on the Portland Underground tour (but I wouldn’t let him be Shanghaied!) and to see Mt. St. Helens with us!

  597. I live in Northern Ontario … I bet Rory hasn’t ever been this far North. I’d be happy to give him a tour!

  598. Yes please! I can take Rory horseback riding AND rock climbing! Not to mention all over Washington DC!

  599. Hello!
This is a wonderful idea. I would like to take Rory with me to see a Blue Jays Game in Toronto or maybe camping up North. Thanks very much, Lindsay

  600. Am I too late? I live in Ireland and read your blog all the time. I’m not great with public places either but I can take Rory to some cool places in my village! hilary.gray@gmail.com

  601. I’d love for Rory to attend my October 10th wedding. And then accompany my new husband and I on our pre-honeymoon honeymoon in Philadelphia. Everyone needs to see the Liberty Bell at least once 🙂

  602. We are always going on adventures – Philly this weekend, Vermont the next, NYC – and we’d love to take him along with us

  603. I would love to take Rory all over Rochester, NY (where I live) up to Canada ( my home land) to the cottage, to the falls and everywhere in between!
We did a similar thing for my brother when he was overseas in Afghanistan, he couldn’t attend a best friends wedding, so we made a life sized head and put it on a stick of him and took his picture with everyone. It was a lot of fun 🙂

  604. I’d love to take Rory around Seattle and on my business trip to San Diego. Maybe I could get Shelly at tinykittens.com to let him come and do a photo shoot with her new litter of kittens. tacyjencass@hotmail.com

  605. This has just become a pinterest board of travel ideas! love it. Can’t wait to see Rory’s adventures.

  606. I am going to New York City in two weeks, but, alas, he’s already been there.

  607. How about the Miss America Parade in Atlantic City in September! Rory definitely needs to be in the parade and a picture maybe with some Miss Americas!!

  608. I think Rory needs a trip to Hawaii…I promise to take him snorkeling, and also I promise to catch him lounging with some strong cocktails (I assume raccoons are cool with that)…I bet he’ll even get up and sing some Karaoke…

  609. I would love to take Rory horseback riding with me in Alabama, and to school while I teach English. 🙂

  610. Do you think Rory would like to be the First Raccoon Into Africa? I don’t have any pull with the meerkats around here but I’m sure the baboons would look at him the way they regard all non-baboons – Is it edible? I live in rural and beautiful South Africa and I’m sure Rory would have a groovy time.

  611. So a fun thing about Houston is that we’re home to the National Museum of Funeral History, where (I am not making this up) there’s a coffin shaped like a chicken. If I get ahold of a Rory, I’ll see if I can snap a picture of him in the chicken casket, along with the Beyoncé photo sculpture someone sent me anonymously a few years ago. amalthean.horn@gmail.com

  612. I would love to take Rory with me to Paris! My friend and I will be going to celebrate her 50th birthday and we’d love to celebrate with Rory in tow!

  613. Can you see the email addresses from the comment form? If not, my address for the Worldcon trip is razorsharpwit AT gmail DOT com

  614. Oh, I want to take Rory around Wine Country! I promise to keep him away from all of the wildfires here in California!

  615. I will be printing out a Rory tonight & he will be joining me on a Road Trip to NH this weekend! Lots of adventures to be had in the White Mountains! 🙂

  616. New Zealand. Rory needs to come Down Under for a bit! Tons to see and do here, we live on a farm – he could ride a sheep or two.

  617. In your picture of cut-out Rory posing with actual Rory, is that a picture of a cat with the caption “I eat babies”?

  618. Rory just missed my trip to Idaho but he can hang out with my cat in Colorado and maybe go to a brewery.

  619. My daughter has a stuffed raccoon that she loves and takes EVERYWHERE…we would love to bring Rory around with us and Foo Foo (the stuffed raccoon).

  620. I think Rory would enjoy the farm life in Iowa. Also, I could take him to the Matchsticks Marvels museum, which is a room-full of enormous models made from tiny matchsticks. Did I mention that I would make him a pair of overalls?

  621. If you’re still sending out Rorys, I think he’d LOVE to go on a wine tour in the Finger Lakes in upstate NY. Maybe visit the tallest single-drop waterfall east of the Rockies? Hang out with a rescue beagle, jackabee (beagle / jack russell) and puggle? Hobnob with the Ivy League at Cornell University? Meditate at the Namgyal Monastery, the western seat of the Dalai Lama?
    hatgirl@mac.com

  622. Don’t feel bad about not seeing the cities you will visit on book tour – almost all work trips are like that. I’ve been to San Diego 5 times for week-long conferences, only see venues associated with my hotel or the conference. Never been to San Diego Zoo, have only seen the art museum and maritime museum because it was part of the venue of the conference party. Even without anything else going on, work travel is exhausting for everyone. Especially the meet the public and signing books thing that book tours are. It’s a work trip. If you do the work, or any parts of it, you win.

  623. A friend of mine will be visiting America in a month. I’m his first stop (Chicago – is Rory afraid of heights?) I’m sure my friend would love a travel companion as he sees the sights 🙂

three dot six dot nine @ gmail dot com

  624. rory absolutely would love it here in pittsburgh! kayaking, theater, baseball, hockey, football, mt. washington, gateway clipper, frog statue at mellon park, carnegie museums, randyland, kennywood, zoo, national aviary, the strip district, and so much more. xo
    hellohahanarf at gmail

  625. Hi, Jenny! I’m late to the game but this is awesome!! We’re not traveling anywhere exotic but will be driving from Austin to Natchitoches to take our 16 year-old to live the dorm life for her junior and senior years of high school at the giftie school her dad attended. And our little guy is starting French kindergarten when we get back so we’ll have some furiously happy/emotional events that we’d love for Rory to attend with us! My email is my name above the comment (as one word, no spaces) at Gmaildotcom 😀

  626. i can’t believe i accidentally left out the mr. rogers statue!! rory would look great sitting on mr. rogers’ shoulder or knee!

  627. I think that Rory would love to come on a road trip from Ontario to West Virginia with us! He can visit the Greenbrier, watch the NOLA Saints training camp and go on a tour of the infamous Trans Allegheny Lunatic Asylum! There will also be lots of BBQ. Does he like BBQ? silleb1@gmail.com

  628. I would be honored if Rory would accompany my husband and I to New York Comic Con. I will make him a paper Cos-play outfit of the 10th doctor to go with my Victorian TARDIS cos-play. It also is my husband’s 40th birthday so MUCH fun will be happening at night after the convention is closed. Pinkpoodlecatering@hotmail.com

  629. Could you send me a Rory to take up to Niagara Falls and various architectural gems here in Buffalo, NY? I have tried several times to print him out but for some reason my printer and computer will not cooperate….. c.s.goldstein93@gmail.com.

  630. I love this! Rory could travel with my children when they visit their dad. They already enjoy your stories. It would be nice to take some comforting weirdness with them when they go.

  631. Rory needs to come to Toronto aka Racoon City! He has a lot of kin here! I think a trip down the biking path in the Don Valley ravine would make him feel at home.

  632. With me, Rory would get to see the US Open tennis tournament from the official stringing room (unfortunately, pics with players are prohibited, but the racquet stringers are lovely people and prone to posing for pictures), Amsterdam and Ghent in October, and Mexico for Christmas / New Year’s. Let me know what he thinks of that itinerary! After Mexico, I would send him with my sister-in-law (we are vacationing in Mexico together) – she and her husband travel and camp constantly!
    mheydt25@hotmail.com

  633. I would love to take rory with me on vacation! My email is: athena_126@hotmail .com

  634. Rory’s body and face matched mine when I went sky diving for the first time a few weeks ago! Dude needs to fly.

  635. First, congrats! So thrilled you’re published again. Second, happy for you on accepting limits. Third, I have no crystal ball but sometimes when I accept a limit, I’m finally free to overcome it. I hope you find, in at least one city, that you are so surrounded by love and support–that you find yourself at the Statue of Liberty or a coffeehouse in Minneapolis, or a shop on Michigan Avenue. Whatever floats your boat. And if it’s an ice cream sundae delivered by room service, we’ll applaud that too:). You’ve earned it!

  636. Heading to Maui in a month and I think Rory needs to come skeetshooting from inside a dormant volcano with me. Because THATS A REAL THING I GET TO DO!

  637. I live in Jerusalem (yep, the one in the Middle East). Lots of religious landmarks here, Rory could connect to his spiritual side! eli7123 atyahoodotcom (avoiding the spam bots)

  638. My sister is in Norway right now for a 2 year program. She’s feeling very lonely and missing the US so Rory would be a perfect travel companion and ice-breaker. I live in Tampa, FL and I could take Rory to Clearwater beach. PS, we love you and totally relate to your anxiety issues. I think of all the things I wish I could have done and it bums me out sometimes, but loving yourself and modeling that for your kids is the way to go. Kisses!

  639. I would like to show Rory the coastline of Gloucester Massachusetts and New England..a few shots of local landmarks …sights from The Perfect Storm movie.. Maybe a snapshot with one of the guys from Wicked Tuna and The Gortons Fisherman ..

  640. I think Rory needs to go a few places with me. Here at home, in a semi-rural area of PA, we have the local Blue Valley Farm Show coming up, where he could meet all kinds of animals and see fruits and vegetables grown by local farmers.

How does Lancaster, PA sound? I am going there with my daughter in September. Rory could see some Amish/Mennonite people, and laugh at the names of local towns, such as Bird-In-Hand or Intercourse.

If that isn’t enticing enough, how about a cruise to Canada and New England? That’s another trip I am doing the end of September. Our cabin is known as the “Ben and Jerry’s Sweet” and has a big cow connection! If you want, check it out on youtube, just google the “sweet” name.

If that’s not exotic enough, there’s my big cruise in January, to the Western Caribbean, including Grand Cayman, Cozumel, Costa Maya and Roatan, Honduras? This cruise, I have a balcony, so Rory would have a wonderful time.

Both cruises will have plenty of entertainment, lots to see and do, many people to meet. I love to cruise!!!! It would be a blast to have Rory join us.

Besides, every time I type Rory, I think of Dr. Who. I can’t be the only one!

    rose.karena@gmail.com

  641. My family would like to cordially invite Rory to join us camping on the Pacific Coast next week. I’m sure he would enjoy smores. We might have to laminate him in case of rain though…

  642. I seem to be traveling a lot these days! Last summer I began dating a wonderful man, after surviving a difficult divorce and finally finding my self worth again. We have been on 6 out of state trips and several day trips too. Last summer, on our 3d date, the day after my birthday, we got hit by lightning while hiking!!! Luckily, neither one of us were seriously injured. This Saturday its my birthday again, and believe it or not, we are headed up, not too far from where we were hit last year! Oh, and we got caught in another serious thunderstorm in Glacier National Park on July 16th of this year. While I was panicking with my mouth wide open, a bug flew in my mouth and got stuck in my throat. It eventually came out….in 2 separate pieces. All true!!!!!! My point is, after entering my 46th year, life has become VERY interesting and Rory would have plenty of adventures around here!
See you in Phoenix, AZ in December! <3

  643. Yes! I did this exact thing when my husband deployed a couple years ago. I turned him into a gnome and he went everywhere. I think Rory would love to see the Alaskan sights. My email is bridgieee@aol.com

  644. Hi! I was going to say Rory needs to come to Warsaw Poland (which he still can!) but I have a better idea –

I want him to be there when I give your first book to my friend who is in a desperate need of a laugh and an escape. She just found out that she has thyroid cancer AND in that same week found out her 3 year old daughter has a brain tumor. After reading your first book a few days ago I knew she would love it – and she really just needs to laugh. So I bought your book on Amazon and plan on giving it to her this week.

Hope Rory can be there to witness!

    Rebecca

    Rebeccaboodles@gmail.com

  645. Oh man….I just realized that Furiously Happy doesn’t come out until SEPTEMBER 22nd. I thought it was August 22nd. It was going to be my go to book to keep me giggling on a dark plane over the Atlantic while all the other lucky bastards sleep. Seriously bummed now.

  646. I would like to take Rory to The Homestead, a very posh resort in Bath County, VA, because I think he would really liven the place up. Also, I’m getting a tiny puppy next weekend, and I need to know if he likes dead raccoons.

  647. Could you send me a Rory to take up to Niagara Falls and various architectural gems here in Buffalo, NY? I have tried several times to print him out but for some reason my printer and computer will not cooperate….. c.s.goldstein93@gmail.com.h

  648. I would love for Rory to see Perth, Western Australia. I’d take him to Kings Park, Scarborough Beach, send him to high school with my son (he’s crazy enough to take him along too!!). He could spend a day sewing with me and my mum. Come to work at the bowling alley with me. We’d have a blast!! xoxo

  649. How about a flour mill in Oregon? How about Scotland and London? I’d love to take Rory with us on my travels in the coming months. If I don’t get one, I’ll try to remember to make my own so you can still enjoy it. I adore your blog and all you share about your mental health journey. I struggle myself and your blog helps immensely. I’m hoping to come see you when you’re in Portland next month. pdxstocktons@gmail.com

  650. I need Rory to take with my to my many dr appts. I can distract the drs and he can make off with the good samples… or to eat tacos in bed with and watch X files… cause I don’t like to leave home either, but I could use the company.

  651. I’m leaving to go to South Korea for a week for a work trip Saturday. I don’t have time to have Rory mailed to me but I will print him out and so he’ll be able to see the sights in Seoul.

  652. I’m pretty sure Rory needs to go to a wedding with me in Lake Tahoe, especially since I don’t have a date.

  653. I can’t even LIST the number of places I need to take Rory. Let’s start with a skating rink, though. Cause Rory would KILL IT in the limbo. But I also think he’d enjoy coming to work with me. He’d look fabulous at the head of the board table.

  654. Jenny! I work in a cave, and I bet Rory would love to come hang out there with me (and maybe a few ghosts!).
I also work for a costume company, with lots of mascot-style costumes, so he could hang out with the animal heads.
Then, he could go visit my mom and sister in Germany, and enjoy Oktoberfest!

  655. I think Rory should see the Philadelphia landmarks such as the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall. High fives to the founding fathers!

  656. I would love a Rory to share with my Book Club – they have fantastic vacation plans with their families and I want him to see all that Houston has to offer. bluemn260@gmail.com

  657. Don’t know if anyone has claimed Italy and we won’t be going until next March-April, but we could do this. We have experience. Last time we took a donut from the local donut emporium and photographed ourselves with it in Rome and Florence; it didn’t make it to Milan, Verona, and Venice though, but I have photos of it being eaten by the pigeons in Piazza della Signoria. It really loved the Vatican.

  658. My boyfriend was jokingly given plus two to a wedding. We would love for Rory to join us. We would make sure he was dressed for the occasion. My boyfriend is already trying to figure out where to buy a mini suit.

  659. My daughter and I figure skate and we would LOVE to take Rory for a spin!

  660. I would take Rory on my daily walks exploring San Francisco. He would like that.

  661. I’m headed to Central America in a few months and would love for Rory to tag along. I’ll do my best to get a photo of him atop some Aztec ruins. 🙂

  662. Rory is coming with me for Mock School day next week. He gets to ride the bus with me.

  663. Ooo. I would love to take Rory on a Hawaiian Island cruise in November, and also to chemo with me next month (The Maggie Daley Center at NorthWestern in Chicago). Perhaps Rory would like to visit the Nuclear Medicine scanner too? It’s really scientific looking and he’d look totally Star Trek on the machine. Like, Beam me up Scotty! Except it scans for tumors. But it’d look cool.

  664. We ate going to Utah at the end of the month. Rory would love to see Zion National park and Bryce canyon!

  665. My husband and I are off to the Canadian Rockies, and Glacier National Park on 9/2. I think Rory would enjoy joining us on our 1 year anniversary trip.

  666. I would LOVE to show Rory around my town. Congratulations on your new book! I look forward to reading it.

  667. I think Rory would love to see the Grand Canyon, or hang out with the Pink Pony in Scottsdale!

  668. I wish I would have known about this before I went to Spain in July!! I might have to photoshop him into some of my pictures…;)

  669. I am definitely going to print Rory out and show him some Western Australian sights. Ok, so I’m not great at leaving my house unaccompanied either, BUT if I see Rory looking all excited at the prospect of checking some of my local places out, I will probably go. Because I’ll feel ultra guilty for making him come to Australia only to be entertained by the sights of my living room.

  670. Rory would be an amazing travel companion! The end of August I will be going to my favorite place on earth, Story, WY. It is a tiny town on the edge of the Big Horn Mountains. It’s quite, peaceful, and I feel like a normal person when I am there. September I am taking a huge step and going to Vegas for one amazing woman’s bachelorette party. Typing that makes me feel vomity…. The bride is amazing as are the other women going but I am terrified! Please send me Rory so we can hang out and I can pull him out of my travel bag to change the conversation after I’ve said something so awkward that even people in Vegas are judging me!

  671. I am recovering from vascular surgery and would love to take pics of me and Rory lounging in bed.

I was supposed to also have a hernia repaired but it turned out to be a golf ball sized aneurysm on my hip flexor. I am happy that’s done with, as I have three small men at home and need to be, you know, alive.

  672. You can’t imagine how much of a difference you make in people’s lives. I am printing him out and he will have a place of honor on my desk. Anxiety is nearly killing me right now and that raccoon may save my life. That probably sounds ridiculous, but it will remind me that there is so much more to life than my endless internal dialog of what I might screw up. Your post with the bear head and the various ways you posed it around your house from a long time ago is my go-to when I need a laugh. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

  673. Yes please! I am going to a conference in Thailand in the fall. I have a feeling Rory might enjoy that! (you get my email through this comment, right?)

  674. Send Rory to me in Australia and I’ll set him to work in our dairy milking cows! And hubby can have him driving the tractors. Then he can do a kinder pick up. Fun and games. He can also go to one of the Fonterra board meetings with hubby (one of the major milk processors here in Australia) just to have a bit of a lark!!!

  675. I’m off to the Med for work next week and I think I will be a good time for Rory to experience the rigors of life at sea (in style on a superyacht of course).

  676. Rory totally needs to hang out at the Sydney Opera House, or the Sydney Harbour Bridge, or King’s Cross (in Sydney) with the junkies and the strip clubs…your choice. erinegray1@gmail.com

  677. I love this so much. I’m not traveling anywhere soon, but would Rory enjoy Lancaster PA? I’ll take him to Hershey!
Are raccoons allowed to eat chocolate?
    Ktbea38@gmail

  678. spending christmas road tripping with my family around the south island of New Zealand, I hope I remember this post before we go.

  679. I’m in London and I think Rory needs a selfie with the Queen! Maybe if I skulk outside the palace long enough with a cut-out of a taxidermied raccoon, she’ll be creeped out enough to come out and say hello just to get us to leave. Keep an eye on the news this weeekend….

  680. Your blog touches me in so many deeply private places, there is no emoticon for that 🙂 I’d love to take Rory around the UK, Spain and Poland if you’d be willing to share him with me! Bestest and kindest wishes, always.

  681. I live in Niagara Falls, along with the Falls we could run Rory to both Lake Ontario and Lake Erie. There’s the Niagara River Gorge and the plethora of vineyards and orchards as well. And he’d be a great excuse to finally visit the CN Tower in Toronto!

I’m also in the middle of planning a wedding, Rory would make a fantastic assistant. I bet he’d be great fun trying on dresses. a.pesicka@gmail.com

  682. Aww, we just went to Mexico a month ago – Rory would have loved it. Maybe not climbing up all those damn pyramid steps, though, but I guess raccoons are pretty tenacious so he probably could have handled it. If you want, I can photoshop him into some of our pictures. Performing a blood sacrifice on Teotehuacan? You got it. Parachuting down the side more your style? I can do that too. Or we can set him up as a priest in the Cathedral…or El Presidente.

Unfortunately the only thing I can offer you right now is photos of him with my dead friend. And while he would have absolutely loved that, I’m pretty sure that’s not the aesthetic you’re looking for. And I don’t blame you one bit. Frankly, I wasn’t looking for it either.

  683. They fact that there are 839 comments on this thread makes me very, very happy. I like to read where Rory might be off to. This is going to be so great. (I realize I sound like a child… I’m okay with it. 🙂

  684. I am a bit like you, I don’t wander out into the world much. I look after my daughter, and my disabled dad lives with me. I find it hard to make and keep friendships as depression, anxiety and social anxiety from childhood don’t give you great tools, but I take pride in the fact that I go to work (even though it takes everything out of me) and look after those who need me. I think Rory might like to come home to my house, in Australia, meet my daughter and my dad and our two cats (who are treated so much like people they have forgotten how to cat!). Maybe he’s like to see my little world, of home and work and sometimes Bikram yoga when I feel well enough to venture out into public 🙂
At the risk of sounding all creepy and stalkerish, I love you and your family. You make me furiously happy!
    larryjane@bigpond.com

  685. i tots magoats just want to let you know your ability to steradfastly remain funny as fuck even when you’re clearly in a dark place is a magical ability, and i love you. not just for your funniness though. i think you’re cool as a cucumber too :f all the love and fresh fruits and vegetables, jenny.

  686. Oh my! What a fantastic idea! I’d love to show Rory the beautiful Great Lakes in Northern Michigan 🙂

  687. Rory needs to come to Guthrie, Oklahoma, to visit the world’s largest Scottish Rite Temple…he’ll look so masculine wearing a fez.

  688. Oooo, I can do the Canadian Rockies!!! So many glorious things to see up here. Rory should see some tornadoes, we’ve had a couple so far this year…would love to give the wee raccoon a tour of my home!

  689. I could take him to Germany with me next month! We’ll be going to Neuschwanstein Castle while we’re there, and I feel like Rory could really get his prince on. Maybe I could make a royal outfit for him, paper dolls-style…

  690. I’m going to send this link to friends overseas to See What Happens. 🙂

  691. And I may be taking him to some historic sites in central & northern Connecticut !

  692. By the way I moved to Connecticut when I was nearly 30 … and was thrilled to realize that I now lived within 5 miles of “The Witch of Blackbird Pond”. A book I had loved!
The historic home that was a big inspiration is open to the public… and has a great name. Seriously, Rory will be coming along to the “Butt off, Williams!” house. Er, Buttolfph-Williams.
    http://www.ctmuseumquest.com/?page_id=5004

  693. I start college in a few weeks. I bet my roommate would appreciate a crazed raccoon in her dorm, and Rory would be a great getting-to-know-campus partner.

  694. Would Rory like to experience the five Quad Cities? How about the World’s Largest Truckstop? Would he like to attend 5th grade with my daughter, or perhaps hang out with our cats? How’s about an upcoming field trip to Detroit? He can do it all, if he comes to visit me! cathy@catdroid.com

  695. Would it be OK if I used the print-out Rory to guard my henhouse? I need some help with coyotes and owls.

  696. I’d like Rory to see the St. John’s Bridge in Portland, Oregon. You might have seen it on the news the other day. It’s the bridge the Greenpeace protesters were hanging off. It’s such a beautiful bridge and it’s right down the street. I’d then pass along Rory to my 14 year old son. He skateboards all over the place and could show Rory the sights.

  697. I live somewhere the is very picturesque and am planning some lovely hikes so Rory would get back to nature!

  698. I can’t wait to see Rory in Atlanta!! If you want to go with us, my friend and I are getting semi-colon tattoos (for Project Semicolon). Glad I held off on that tat I said I’d get when I turned 40… Although, since I knew it prolly wouldn’t be much more than a dot this might count as enhancing said tat.

  699. I think Rory needs to see the Pacific Northwest. Specifically the ocean and as if he were sitting on Mt Rainier. lifebloom at Gmail dot com. The Sister/Brotherhood of the Traveling Rorys!

  700. I am soooooo excited to see you here in Portland, Oregon!!! My bestie and I are coming to hear you read, and I’m so proud of you for getting out of your comfort zone and sharing your super-wizardry with the rest of us. Email is below, send me a Rory!! Can’t wait!

  701. LOL! i love this! i would so join in for the local attractions! especially the weird ones! please send me one!

i know that my mom (purplepenguin) already posted this, so yes to everything she said! plus a back-up Rory for her and Dad for the cruises is a must. (they trained me to think like this!!!!) However, if they do lose one Rory, perhaps, just in case, they can write on the back, “Take pictures of me wherever you want, and post to twitter or instagram to @TheBloggess with the hashtag #wheresrory! I want to have a fun adventure!” like, a social roaming gnome or something like that. like those free books you drop off in a public place so that someone else can pick it up and read it. just a thought!

Anyways, i think that A-it’s safer for me to have my own Rory, so I don’t steal one from Mom and Dad, and B-I can come up with pictures of Rory during Musikfest, Celctic Classic Festival, Christmas stuff, and even visit the “weird” places around here, listed on the Atlas Obscura web site! Love your posts and writing! <3

    edenpyrithea@rocketmail.com

  702. Jenny, I understand social anxiety and I understand panic attacks. I live on the Upper West Side in Manhattan and if you need a respite or a place to stay other than a hotel, please get in touch. I met you at the Gaithersburg Book Festival a few years ago and I’m happy to host you!

  703. Think Rory would like to visit Rosie the Riveter? She’s five minutes from my house. 🙂

  704. Rory really deserves the chance to go to college, and that is what I am offering him. Johns Hopkins class of 2019!

    This is amazing.

  705. OMG, I would LOVE to take Rory with me every time I travel! I’m headed to Erie, PA & Cleveland, OH later this month, and then off to Montreal late Oct/early Nov. I also think he’d LOVE to hang out with my mom, aunt, grandma and I at our quilt retreat in October!!!

  706. This is making me laugh every time I see one. He can be partner to my Pocket Jamie from Outlander and go on highland adventures (or to Costco).

  707. I’m off to Dubai and Oman in September. I’d love to have Rory join me on my adventure!

  708. Rory needs to visit the sunny south – from the Rocket City to the Gulf Coast. 🙂 I’ll make sure he sees all the cool places – I might even get him a ride to a football game.

  709. (function(d, s, id) { var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0]; if (d.getElementById(id)) return; js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id; js.src = “//connect.facebook.net/en_US/sdk.js#xfbml=1&version=v2.3”; fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs);}(document, ‘script’, ‘facebook-jssdk’));

I FREAKING LOVE MILK!!Posted by Ranker on Wednesday, August 5, 2015

  710. Please don’t just update here and on Twitter. I’d love to follow this, but I’m too lazy and forgetful to come back here. Can you just do easy updates with it every so often as a new blog post? Please?

  711. Also not exotic, depending on what kinds of animals are in your everyday, but I’d take Rory to the job that inspires so, so many of my snarky, frustrated blog posts.
PS – We have peacocks roaming around (lolaveed@gmail.com)

  712. I never go anywhere, but maybe Rory would enjoy a visit to my mailbox. Or the grocery store. Or if he’s VERY lucky, the Antique Mall. My neighbor has a mini giant metal chicken, so he should feel right at home.
    meow meow meow

  713. I’m heading to Paris and Dublin in a few weeks, I’d love to take Rory with me!

  714. So after nearly 1000 comments, no-one from my corner of the world has offeret yet. Shameful! But I am more than happy to!=) So can Rory come say hello to me in Norway please?
I live in Trondheim, a lovely city in the middle of Norway. It actually dates back over 1000 years and is full of students, culture and some lovely sights. I think Rory needs to get his viking helmet on and go exploring! I would really love to get a visit from a little furry (cardboardy?) creature. It’s been a very sucky summer and I think this fun little project would do me a world of good.

This is my first comment here, but I’ve been a reader for years, so I just want to take this opportunity to say thank you! Thank you for everything you say, do, write, think and create! But most of all, thank you for always being here for all of us, it means more than you’ll ever know!=)

And now, if you’ll excuse me, I need to do some research on what cardboard racoons like to snack on… You know, just in case 😉

  715. Well I printed a Rory because he totally needs to be at our daughter’s wedding.
But I apparently have a color cartridge issue because Rory is furiously purple. This should be good!

  716. I work with celebrities. Damn, I coulda had Rory high five a bunch of them this week alone. Email me at Hlkywdchk@aol.com (instead of my giveaway work address) so I can introduce him to some stars.

  717. Am I too late to get in on the fun?? I live right next to Grand Teton National Park and I’d love to take him to go see the Tetons! No, not that kind of tetons, what kind of a lady do you think I am? Stupid French furtrappers, they’re not boobs, they’re mountains!
    ashleigh.allan.wy@gmail.com

  718. I would take Rory to DragonCon in Atlanta & photograph him with a life sized Tardis & Alex Kingston! And since I am coming to your signing in Atlanta a few weeks later, we could discuss!!! Love your work!!!

  719. Rory needs to come to Arizona so I can take him to law school. And on adventures around Phoenix! And maybe even to court with me !

  720. I would love to take Rory places. I don’t know where I’m going yet, but he can come.

  721. We are going to Tweetsie Railroad in late September. What furiously happy raccoon wouldn’t enjoy a train, old west gun fights, can can dancers and rides? Also, in late October we are going to Clearwater Marine Aquarium to see Winter the dolphin. You know, the one from Dolphin Tale the movie. If the dolphin isn’t exciting enough, seeing my daughter dissolve from happiness when we surprise her with seeing Winter should be!

  722. Jenny, I’m a flight attendant and Rory needs to comee to work with me! We can visit Amsterdam, Paris, and San Diego by the end of the month. I’m a fan of building hotel room blanket forts myself but will venture out with Rory to grab some pictures. I’ll even put him in business class so he can get some rest on the way there. yevocyllek@yahoo.com. (I’m writing this from my blanket fort in London while looking at the London Eye out the window. I did run to the grocery store next door for chocolate and watermelon before settling in.)

  723. Rory needs to see Hell’s Gate, which is an incredible rock “gate” on beautiful Possum Kingdom Lake. Yep – it’s really called Possum Kingdom! I’d also take him to the Davis Mountains and stargazing at the McDonald Observatory, with a side trip to see the Marfa Lights. My ghost cat, Edgar, is our only travel buddy and I think he’d get along famously with Rory.

  724. I live in a tiny little town in nowhere, Indiana. I am convinced that Rory could help spread some life in this place! Also, he could come to the Indiana State Fair with me in a few weeks, where he can eat himself sick on anything once can imagine will fit in a deep fat fryer!

  725. Jenny … I MUST take Rory to the Bonneville Salt Flats as the passenger on my sidecar as I attempt another land speed record!!! PLEASE! I’m going in Sept!

  726. Jenny, my wife and I leave for an Alaskan cruise celebrating our 25th anniversary three years late on Sept 2nd. If I could get an official Rory by then, wonderful. If not, I’ll do the PDF as Plan B. Thank you! We look forward to our strangely ecstatic, furry traveling companion.

  727. In New Haven we have excellent pizza, really good ice cream, and several secret societies(he’d be on the outside, sadly) as well as The Grove Street Cemetery, which is the first chartered burial ground in the USA. Lots of famous dead people. Walter Camp, the father of modern football, A. Bartlett Giamatti, who was President of Yale and Baseball Commissioner, Lyman Beecher, Charles Goodyear(my personal favorite) and Roger Sherman to name only a few. Think of the many dead people Rory could meet. Along with having ice cream, picking blueberries and kayaking.

  728. I’d love to show Rory around South Carolina and introduce him to some real characters…. My medieval re-creation group, and all of my cosplay buddies! Maybe Rory will pick up a new hobby!

  729. Rory would LOVE Reno! I’ll take him to entertain the children at Toddler Time in my library!

  730. I would love to invite him to my son’s first birthday party in San Diego! It’s on Sunday August 16!

  731. I want to take Rory! We will go see Portland and mossy trees and waterfalls! He can help with my kitchen remodel! Or changing diapers! (Ew, maybe not that…)

  732. I live in Maine – Vacationland! I think Rory definitely needs to see some of the lighthouses we’re famous for, and probably eat some lobster too.

  733. Oh yes! Rory would love to visit the replica of the Santa Maria and see the huge gravel sculpture outside the state supreme court building in Columbus. Jadot to show him around my fair city.

  734. I don’t have a printer and someone probably already said this but there were like a gajillion (ok, 900+ comments) which I’ve not read bease it’s 1 a.m. and I should be asleep but my 14 mo old disagrees.
Anyway, if it hasn’t been done yet, somebody PLEASE put a red and white shirt, goober hat and glasses on Rory!

  735. Rory needs to come to England to ride on my guide dog’s back as we explore London together

  736. I could take Rory to the top of Mt. Hood in Oregon! I’m doing the Hood to Coast Relay with Team Neon Banana Hammock on 8/28. He could see many wondrous Oregon sites, like VooDoo donut.

  737. Has Rory been to Moscow yet? Because I’m pretty sure the Russians wouldn’t mind if I took him to Red Square. Maybe we could hang in front of Lenin’s Tomb – there’s some quality taxidermy for you!

  738. I’m afraid I’m too impatient to wait for Rory. So I will bring a home-made Rory with me to one of the biggest nerd conventions in North America! Then maybe HE’ll be the one waiting… 😉

  739. I am a fearful traveler, so I don’t travel much. However, I my hometown like the back of my hand and bring Rory to visit all of the coolest spots here in San Diego!

  740. I live in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. Rory definitely needs to come visit here. He can come play with the kitties at Turpentine Creek Wildlife Rescue. He can high five Big J (the seven story Jesus statue). He can hang out at any number of celebratory weekend parties we have here.
Not to mention him just hanging out in the office at our resort (which you and your family are also invited to come hang out at the cabins- pet friendly, so fur babies are welcome).

  741. We’re going to Seattle then Alaska in 10 days. Would love to take a raccoon along.

  742. I wish I would have seen this post last week! I would have taken Rory to the 75th Sturgis, SD bike rally with me. He would have ridden a Harley with no helmet, camped in luxury, seen painted boobs, and come home with no voice, but smiling even bigger at having been part of the spectacle that Sturgis is.

  743. I love this! I love you! I love Rory! And I would love to show him around Santa Cruz, take him to the beach, maybe show him around the SF Bay Area a bit. What fun we could have!

  744. We also live in Texas (Austin) but perhaps we can find exciting new sights for Rory here as well- Torchy’s Tacos and Gordoughs are pretty amazing! Please send us a Rory, Serena.marita@gmail.com
    Thank you!

  745. I’m leaving for 2 weeks in southern Italy and Corfu on the 31st of August. If Rory gets here in time, he’s welcome to come with. Warning, he’ll probably have to sleep on the floor and I can’t guarantee a/c. He should pack a bathing suit, sunscreen and hat. No whiners, Rory! joan.castell@verizon.net

  746. My husband and I are itinerant art vendors and travel to all sorts of festivals, shows, and conventions with our sideshow oddities and Steampunk wonders. Rory will fit right in! In fact, we received a big boost when you mentioned Tony’s Travesties in Teacups a while back so we’ll organize a tea party for him. Can’t wait to take him to the Punk Rock Flea Market and Faerieworlds!

  747. I so freaking LOVE this! I want to take Rory to a Renaissance Faire, the zoo, Disney World, Sea World, Universal and a First LEGO League tournament. inkdippedmoon@gmail.com Oh crap I should probably just print my own and make it my new friend. Thanks for this Jenny! You ROCK!

  748. Please send a Rory to visit me! My printer is kaput or I’d print him out. He needs to wrap up August with us; it’s too bad he missed the end of July as we were all over eastern Missouri, Tennessee, Indiana and Ohio. swainjen@gmail.com

Love this so much. We’ll show him a good time.

  749. I’m taking my youngest to college next week. I’m so excited and happy for HIM. I’m also trying very hard to be brave about letting go and starting the empty nest phase. Having Rory with me and sharing the moment vicariously with you would help immensely.

  750. #wheresrory should trend.
Having said that, I solemnly swear to take pics of him places he’s never been. Like in a bar with a drunk vagrant, or under an overpass sharing a sandwich with the homeless guy everyone affectionately calls “Lick The Wall Man.”

    Ad-fucking-ventures await!

  751. I’m in the Maldives and know Rory would LOVE it, despite it possibly being a tad hot for him!! Trying to figure out how to get him here!

  752. Would he like to see fall in New England? We can do pumpkins and cider and hay mazes…

  753. Okay, I’m super late to this party but if you still had a spare, I’d love to take Rory around the lovely Okanagan Valley…a little wine tasting, out during my dragon boat practice, maybe floaring down the river channel…

  754. If Rory wants to see Belgium, he can come and stay at my place! He cvan even join me on my swordfighting seminar in september!

  755. This is amazing and I want in! I live in CT but will also be traveling to San Francisco/Berkeley CA next month. I would LOVE to show Rory the sights!

  756. I’m going to the Caribbean next month and I’ve been training my WHOLE LIFE FOR JUST SUCH AN OCCASSION. Rory would be traveling with me and 6 friends and my dashboard Jesus who has traveled by plane, train, boat, and car all over – he’s even been to Europe so he’s PRETTY cultured…

    Bootkoozie@hotmail.com

  757. I would LOVE to take Roy with me traveling and around my loft in Deep Ellum, Tx! Love you!

  758. Rory needs to come hang out in Memphis with me. We can teach him all about blues, rock’n’roll, soul, and sone of the best food ever.

  759. i work in a theatrical lighting and rigging company, and i’m pretty sure Rory would like to ride up and down on the battens!

  760. Fantastic! First of all, I love how your cats have this look on their faces like, “there she fucking goes again…” I love Rory and the idea of sending him around the world. If I was still in South Africa or New Mexico I would definitely make a copy and take pictures. Alas, I am in Scottsville Virginia which is a sweet little town but I’m not sure it warrants any picture taking. Last of all, I can’t wait to read your book. I also have a book coming out in September. Book buddies! ((Hugs))

  761. I was going to buy your book to read on the way back from vacation but then realized it wasn’t out yet so I will wait a little longer. I really enjoyed the first one so I am looking forward to Furiously Happy!

  762. LOOOVE!!!! I’m going to St. Thomas & Puerto Rico in a few months and would LOVE to take Rory with me!

  763. Wait, wha? I’m still back on the Rory with original Rory picture, what’s the name of that book???? lmaoo

  764. HAWAII. Rory would enjoy a tour of Oahu by a born-and-raised local complete with one husband and a few kids. It is so expensive to live here that we can’t afford vacations off of the island.

There’s Japanese bon dances here. And turtles. And farmers markets with strange fruit. And a giant pineapple maze where you can get lost and sunburned all at the same time. There is also a burlesque scene IN Chinatown, so that’s special. Perhaps Rory wold like to have dim sum. Or a Hawaiian plate. Or enjoy an ice cream cone at our famous ice cream shop that features frosty delights such as “Come Here Little Girl” and “Knock Me Up On The Blower.”

We are classy in these parts. Rory will love it.

    angelmoy@yahoo.com

  765. I do believe that Rory needs to come hang out with my theater company on Governor’s Island in NYC. I mean, I know he’s been to NYC already…but we’re Dysfunctional Theatre Company and we perform on an abandoned military base. Also my name is Jenny too. I feel like he’d fit in. Heck, I may just print his fuzzy self out right now though.

  766. I totally need a Rory with me next week when I wind my way through the mountains and national parks of western Wyoming! Since there’s no way he’d get here in time, I’ll print my own and post the pictures as I can. 🙂
    soccermomne@yahoo.com

  767. I will take him to Key West with me so he can see the Southern most city, Hemingway’s house, enjoy key lime pie and watch the sunset in one of the prettiest places on Earth!
    shesacrafty1@yahoo.com
P.S. I will also bring him to Boston so you can say hi!

  768. Rory needs to come to my small little town in Michigan. He also needs to come to an amusement park and ride roller coasters in place of me. (I’m going because I love my kid). Also..he needs to come to a fish fry. Fresh caught from a lake my parents live on.

  769. Going to Denver – Rory needs to see the mile high city! And I can’t wait to see you in Austin next month!

  770. I am too lazy to scroll through the bajillion comments but if you have not seen “Amelie” I BEG you to do so…subtitles and all. Like, right now.

  771. Hmmm…I live in GLORIOUS Naples Florida and I am going on vacation to Dayton Ohio-maybe he needs to go to Dayton with me! I could have him do the touristy Naples things before we go 🙂

  772. I would love to take Rory with me on a retreat to Michigan with 10 other women writers next month. Two years ago when we all met up, our cottage had a taxidermied raccoon eating Cracker Jacks. We named him Maurice (wa-waoh…) and he has become our unofficial mascot (here he is: https://instagram.com/p/WnVoFdlc2A/). I think this year it would be the icing on the cake for Rory to be there as we all meet up again. It’s a shame we won’t see Maurice (wa-waoh..), but we could maybe Photoshop some pictures of he and Rory together. We’ll take new photos of Rory walking along Lake Michigan and taking part in extremely exciting activities, like word count challenges.

  773. If you’re still sending them out, I could take Rory on a tour of Kansas City. Some midwest fun, a stop by my fire station (try on the gear, ride in the truck, get in a workout), maybe some local sporting team venues (Royals, Chiefs, Sporting KC) and some of the weird fountains we have here (Kansas City is the “City of Fountains”). Oh. Agricultural Hall of Fame – Barbed Wire Display. And probably QuikTrip. We could go near Schiltterbahn, but not IN. Topped off with dinner at the T-Rex Cafe.

  774. Rory definitely has to come to Las Vegas! I hate the strip, but I’ll make an exception for him!

  775. I’m leaving for a conference in Orlando on Saturday. I’ll definitely be printing a Rory to come with me. I’ll be in Denver for a trip later this month if you want to send one my way for that trip. Or I can just take random pictures of him around Kansas City. He can sit on my desk with my collection of Doctor Who memorabilia 🙂

  776. I’d love to host a little Rory! I live in Iowa right on the Mississippi River there’s nothing too exciting here but I’d happily take him to some corn fields or if he arrives late Fall to see some bald eagles.

  777. I was looking at your list of tour dates and cities and noticed that I’ll be out of town when you come through Cambridge (the nearest location to me). I realized I was relieved because that meant I had an excuse not to go, because I think it will be crowded and overwhelming in the bookstore. Then I thought, “You know who would understand not going to Jenny Lawson’s reading because it is too crowded and overwhelming? Jenny Lawson.” Thank you for everything you do and say on our behalf, from one of the anxious ones.

  778. I’m a bit behind, I know. I apologize. I usually get busy and end up binge reading about two weeks worth of your posts. My fiancee and I are driving from North Dakota to California in September, and I would love to take Rory with me!

  779. I’d love to show Rory around Washington state. We’ve had a rough summer and it would be fun to have something special to do!

  780. This just made my day! We’ve done Flat Stanley for a family friend, Flat Dragon (the school mascot) for my own kids, and recently, I heard about Flat Jesus. Rory, however takes top prize and is more fun than finding Waldo and Carmen Sandiego! Sadly, no trips planned any time soon, but I’m happy to have Rory come hang out in #RVA and see the sights!

  781. Rory is currently spreading his happiness in my workplace in The Hague, Netherlands amongst various Europeans who constantly are asking what’s up with the ‘insane fox picture’. After a lengthy explanation and correction that he is a furiously happy racoon and not insane at all then i offer shameless PR plugs for your next book.

Next up, Rory is heading to Abbey Road, Phantom of the Opera in London’s West End, sipping tea and eating crumpets near Buckingham. Then onto Paris for the Moulin Rouge, Eiffel tower and perhaps Mona Lisa selfies if he can manage to get past the gaurds. Pics to follow xx

  782. I think Rory would really enjoy exploring Baltimore! It’s not all riots and protests, I promise I’ll keep Rory safe!

  783. I took Rory to the Field Museum in Chicago. I’d love to send you the pictures of him with the dinosaurs. jen.lea.woods at gmail.com

  784. Are there still Rory’s available? I’d love to take him to Key West next month. And I bet my 3 cats would love him up as well. He could even go marching with my son’s marching band. jfinley74@gmail.com

  785. I can just see Rory on the front of the ferry doing a “King of the World” a la Leonardo in Sydney, Australia – he’s love it, I know he would!

  786. My bff and I are going to the Playboy Mansion in September for an award her husband won. (I am not even making this up.) That would be a GREAT place for Rory!! Also, let’s be extras together for Fear the Walking Dead now that these zombies are normal people size. (Allegedly)

  787. I would take Rory to the renaissance faire with me and to visit a castle, and he could hang out with our dogs lol

  788. Rory needs to go with me to Burning Man! I’m leaving next week though, so he’d need to be rushed out to me so he caught the ride out there and back.

  789. So… I’m going to Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda in two weeks (for work – I run Panzi Foundation USA, which supports Panzi Hospital in Eastern Congo). Do you think Rory needs to see gorgeous Lake Kivu?

  790. I’d just like to bring Rory around with me so I don’t have to be judged for doing things alone. I’d much rather be judged for being the girl who goes to plays and eats in restaurants with a cardboard cutout of an ecstatic raccoon. Because that judgment would probably be accurate. 🙂

  791. My town has a metal goat outfitted with a vacuum system so you can feed him your trash. Rory should meet the suction goat. Not go inside for the vacuum tour, just say hi from a safe distance.

  792. I think Rory would enjoy coming to Baltimore! He can eat crabs and go boating. If he can be here before Sept. 17 then I can also take him to bike week in Ocean City, MD. He can learn to ride a motorcycle. 🙂

  793. I’m going to be spending half of November traveling around the UK, Belgium, Amsterdam and Iceland. I’m going with one of my BFFs who, like me, is also a huge fan of yours. We’d LOVE to bring Rory along with us.

  794. I’ve just printed Rory at home so I can take him to work with me and mess with people. I so love messing with people.

  795. I’m heading to Hermanus this weekend. It’s a gorgeous coastal town on the Southern Coast of South Africa. We’ll go whale watching and check out the flamingos. He’s going to have SO MUCH FUN with me!

  796. I would love to do this if it’s still going on. I live in New Mexico, which isn’t world traveling except if you convince people it’s Actual Mexico. It’s very pretty here and I mostly see cats, kids, and food, so Rory would have a nice break.

  797. I think Rory would fit in very well in beautiful Moab, UT with all of us. 🙂
Love your blog, big hugs to you!

  798. We are done traveling for a while and I work at home – so he wouldn’t be visiting many exotic locales with me. However, he might like it here in Broomfield, CO. I’m sure it’s on his bucket list. mary@maxms.com

  799. Been horribly busy, so I’m behind, but would LOVE to host Rory up here in North Pole, Alaska! We can go visit Santa!

  800. I can take Rory to Philadelphia & Trenton, NJ – We’ll have laughs, great food, excitement, and hopefully we won’t get shot in the process – But it’ll make for some amazing photos if we do 😉

  801. I would love to take Rory on a cruise I’m taking in December. And I’ll show him around my hometown of Reno/Lake Tahoe as well.

  802. Since Rory has already “done” New York snort I would really like to take him apple picking with me in the Hudson Valley. He can have his choice of Winesaps or Cortlands and then we can have some delicious cider. Email me at jessica@sapphiresiren.com!

  803. I would never be alone with a Rory in my life….my furry little travel companion!!!! It would always be me, my little dog Lex and Rory….hitting the road to see what’s out there!!!!

  804. Oooh! I would love to show Rory around London over the holidays!!! Please send him my way! -Wendy

  805. I would love Rory to keep me company on CalTrain while I commute and listen to Furiously Happy!
P.S. I’m so excited for your book signing in Santa Cruz!

  806. I want a Rory! He’d be very helpful at work, with my ignoring people and whatnot. People would be crazy to continue bothering the person with a perpetually, furiously happy raccoon standing guard! Am I late to the party?!

  807. Do you have any more Rory’s to send into the world? I’d love to bring him around my part of New Jersey.

  808. I love the book and so do my friends!! I would love to take Rory to my neck of the woods AZ. We already hide a Godzilla that eats nomes around our barn. Rory would love it here!!

  809. I’m planning my honeymoon to chile, South America, down through Patagonia to the southern most tip of south America! I will be at your Denver reading on nov. 11! Cannot wait to meet you! I’d love to take Rory to the southern most tip of almost the world!

  810. I live in Denver and am going to your reading! So many fun places around town for Rory to explore! Plus, I can’t help but smiling when looking at him. Then Princeton and San Diego!

  811. Good morning! After reading your book, sharing it with colleagues and buying several more copies as gifts for family and friends I would really like to know how I can go about getting a cardboard cutout of Rory. One that I can take with me to places I’m not that comfortable with (the weight room at the gym), on trips (large buildings with lots of people scare me) and to help me and my boyfriend cook, and also to carry him around for those bad days.

It would also be great if I could get another one for my mother. She suffers from Stiff Person Syndrome, Fibromyalgia, Renauds, Rheumatoid Arthritis, depression and short term memory loss and I think it would be a great gift for her to have a happy Rory around for her bad days when she is stuck in the house.

All in all, if you can tell me how to get them, that would be great! Especially if it was before Christmas because I’m gifting a copy of the book to my mom as well!

Thank you for sharing your experiences and making me realize its okay to be crazy.

  812. Would Rory like to meet Tony the Tiger, Tocan Sam, The Keebler elves? He may feel right at home among the characters I work with. I promise to keep him away from the toxic Flint water.

(Almost probably. Email me. ~ Jenny)

  813. I work as a nurse in an ICU. Recently I printed a picture of Rory as the unit mascot. It’s not nearly as wonderful as the stand up version….but the printed version has made his way around the unit surprising doctors under supplies, hanging in the wall and surprising patients in room. He has brought a smile to everyone’s face and when they ask about it starts an open & honest discussion about depression & anxiety (which I have battled for over 10 years). It’s amazing how many people don’t understand (and DO) and how something as small as a print out of Rory. We would LOVE to have our own cardboard cut out of our beloved Rory. My email is: parksmp@gmail.com

Thank you for being so open and honest!

P.S. I had a physician tell me yesterday that the only thing that got him through a difficult shit was “that raccoon”. Hooray Rory!

  814. Hi Jenny! Can Rory come and play in Orlando? I’m at AJK911PD@YAHOO and I’ll even cover his airfare :). All joking aside I hope I’m not too late to request Rory’s presence…you are both awesome 🙂

  815. My 7yr old girl is nervous about changing schools, and she asked me about getting her a Rory so she could bring it to school to make the other kids laugh. Mind you she wanted to bring a dead stuffed Rory, but we don’t know a taxidermist and also, if it’s not against school policy I’m pretty sure they’ll make it a school policy. It would be amazing if we could get a cutout, even though it’s a little late in the game! We would bring it all over Quebec with us on family trips, but it would make the kids the happiest just having him around our new appartment to prank each other with. We need smiles and laughter since selling the house and their dad leaving. I also would like to be reminded of you and Rory when my depression or anxiety kicks in.

    Love your book! Annie

  816. Hi Jenny! I am late to the game as I somehow just discovered your this weekend, but have never read anything that made me laugh so hard I cried. In all seriousness, your book is an inspiration and reading it made me feel understood. I saw this book and fell in love with Rory before I even knew he was more than cover art! If cut-outs are still being sent out, I would love to have one! Thank you and sending all the best! Annikaprice@outlook.com

  817. Rory has been the wallpaper on my phone for years 🙂 I can’t thank you enough for the comfort and happiness and laughter you and he have brought me
