It feels so real and heavy and substantial and holy crap, y’all, after years of work and doubt it’s actually done.  Well, not done done because the book tour starts in four weeks, but still.  And I heard Victor in the other room leafing through it and laughing out loud.  And that man doesn’t laugh out loud.  Best review ever.

PS.  You’re in this book.  Be prepared.  (It’s all good though.)

PPS. Did you sign up for your free, autographed bookplate?  Because they’re going fast.  And I’m giving away a copy on that same post so leave a comment?

PPPS.  Thank you.  I would never have finished this without your support.  I hope to God you like it.

  1. And I’m furiously proud of this sweet lady that I don’t know at all but I read her all the time on the internets! Go Jenny!

  2. That inside cover artwork is amazing! LOVE it! And even though I know this book is amazing and can’t wait to read it, how awesome to see endorsements from Allie Brosh and Brene Brown?! This whole post makes me furiously happy for sure.

  3. Best. Author. Photo. EVER! I look forward to reading this and hereby volunteer to be your bathroom buddy at Politics and Prose.

  4. I am sooooo looking forward to reading this 😀
It is going on my Birthday wish list. Well it is all I can think of so far that I want for my birthday apart from some new towels

  5. I’ve already ordered it and waiting in Canada for it to arrive! Congratulations. I can’t wait to read it!

  6. How could it not be awesome? The first one DID have me spurt Diet Coke out my nose. Now I know why that random guy scribbled that down when it happened. Looking forward to another mess o’ soda out my orafice with this one.

  7. Hey Jenny, congratulations! No book tour in Germany I guess? However .. I really looking forward to read it 🙂

  8. Congrats Jenny, can’t wait to read it! What an accomplishment, give yourself a pat on the back 👏👏

  9. We’ll love it. You’re an incredible writer, both funny and poignant. Can’t wait to read it!!

  10. Yay!!! So many congratulations! I ordered a signed copy – can’t wait to read it! 😀

  11. The Comic Queen of the Broken Toys? I want an epic title like that. 😀 Congrats. I can’t WAIT to read it. And to hopefully see you in person in Milwaukee or Chicago in October. 😀

  12. Now I can complete my Christmas shopping! Thank you for making it so easy for me. And I am delighted for you. Hurray!!!

  13. “(Lawson) writes with rambling irreverence that makes you wish she were your best friend.” I pretend we ARE friends. Now I have to move to Texas.

  14. I’m super exited to read this, and even more excited to make it to one of your readings/signings. I want to wish you well in person!

  15. I am soooo excited to read this book AND just got the email that it will be delivered on the release date so I can read along with everyone else. Apologies in advance if your internets are quiet for a couple of hours (but you can hear laughter through the open window). Not that I’m apologizing for the laughter unless its inappropriate, well, not that but at inappropriate parts of the book. Maybe.

  16. Squeeel!!! I am so excited to get my pre-ordered copy in the mail and see you in December for the book signing. Congratulations on this book Can’t wait to read it.

  17. I can’t wait!! Also, my couch is Austin is ready with a load of warm cats (and a dog) if you want to come stay! 🙂 I know you don’t know me, but I promise I’m nice. (OK, that sounds really creepy, doesn’t it?)

  18. So many congratulations! I can’t wait to see you in Dallas and get my copy signed!

  19. I just love your flap picture! And I am VERY excited to be getting this book soon! I am planning on traveling up to Huntsville…will you be speaking, signing books, meeting and greeting? It’s a book fair thing that day, so I didn’t know if it would be like your typical book signing.

  20. We will LOVE it !!!! Jenny, you are beautiful and speaking personally, I am deeply, profoundly grateful for your honestly. 💓

  21. Do me a righteously huge solid and stop by my house on your book tour. I can give you socks or a head massage or whatever you want. What. Ev. Er.

  22. Hope schmope! We’ll love it. Just like we do you:). Do the happy dance for an entire month and all through your book tour. You earned it!

  23. So excited both for you AND for the fact that I will, soon, have a copy in my hot little hands. Not soon enough, really…because I’d already have it if that was the case but I’m trying to be patient!

  24. YAY, so looking forward to my preorder And wow, nice endorsements on the dust jacket!

  25. Those reviews!!! I can’t wait for my copies. Ordered one for myself and one for a friend that struggles with depression. I really think she will get a kick out of this one!

  26. Woohoo! Kickass, lady. It’ll be a smash hit, as always. I actually called a store to inquire about ordering the special human skin edition, and the lady there informed me that she had an advance copy (WHAT THE FUCK, HOW), and that it was hilarious. So I think it’s safe to say that everyone will love it. Enjoy your wine slushie. You deserve it. Or them. Probably them.

  27. I hope you know how awesome you are. Because you are, for so many VARIED and intense and uncomfortable and amazing reasons.

  28. Hooray! I’d send you a stuffed dead animal to celebrate but I’m fresh outta road kill. What an exciting moment. So happy for you. 🙂

  29. Squeeeeeeee! Oh, wait. That should be in all caps. SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

I wrote a comment on the last post, so I’ve got one intry into the signed book poo. Now I’m going to go and put in 73,000 comments so I can tip the scales in my favor. Gotta go. I have a full evening in front of me.

  30. Gah! I was so excited about your book I didn’t even notice the two typos in my comment above. That’s ENTRY. And pool not POO. I swear I didn’t do that to be funny. I’m just a massive goober. Sorry.

  31. I just preordered your book, but I’m not getting a signed bookplate, because it would cover the Kindle screen, but I’m still SO EXCITED!! What’s even better is since I quickly forget when I do things ahead of time like this, I’ll be so thrilled when it just shows up on my Kindle one day!! It’ll be like a surprise visit from you!!

  32. Congratulations! I’ve pre-ordered the audio book on Audible because I loved your reading of your first book so much.

  33. Will I be able to buy it via the iTunes Store so I can read it on my iPad?
That way nobody can “borrow it” and I end up never seeing it again ?

  34. Oh my goodness that is so exciting I could vomit unicorn shit a.k.a glitter. Unfortunately I may be moving in the next few weeks and I’m not sure of the address or if the bookplate would make it to where I live now so I don’t think I can fill out a form for one. If I bring a drawing of a deranged dinosaur with a top hat and monocle to your tour stop in Nashville would you sign it for me instead?

  35. Hooray! I pre-ordered at BookPeople in Austin the day you announced it was coming out. Can’t wait! I’m also saving an Audible credit, so I hope you’ll be reading the audio version again!

  36. I don’t know about anyone else, but I got a little giddy reading the endorsement blurb from Augusten Burroughs – I’ve read almost everything he’s written. It’s like two of my favorite worlds colliding onto one spectacular page 🙂 Way to go Jenny!! I cannot wait to have this book in my hot little hands…

  37. So excited! Coming from London, Ontario, Canada to be at your reading in Dallas. Oh, and to visit family. So if you need a place to stay in Dallas just look for the happy Canadian at the Dallas reading. We have lots of room. And a pool. and a wine fridge.
    #FuriouslyHappy

  38. I am so excited to read it that I just spent 10 minutes reading every part of it that I could see in your photos.
Also, I just realized that the new season of Doctor Who starts about the same time your book comes out. Best September ever.
Also (part 2), you have really nice nails (I’m always deeply impressed by people whose nails, you know, actually grow. Mine lack that ability, apparently).

  39. Got my notification from Amazon of a Long-awaited delivery date! WOO-freakin’-HOO!!!! Can not WAIT to read it!!!!!

  40. This book will arrive ON MY HUSBAND’S 50TH BIRTHDAY!!! I think that’s a sign. I’m not sure what of… CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!

  41. I pre-ordered mine and I CAN’T WAIT for it to get here! Then I’ll come to a book signing to make it complete 🙂 Maybe you should bring Hunter to ensure that we get crazy extra squiggles as well. I wouldn’t object.

  42. I have to admit, I am pretty excited for this book. I read your first book to my family on a vacation road trip, we laughed the entire way. Congratulations, I can’t wait to read it!

  43. Huge Congrats!!! Can’t wait to read the book and looking forward to seeing you at Vroman’s in pasad an.

  44. Congratulations, Ms.About-To-Be-Bestselling-Author-Of-Two-Books! I always do a double take when they describe you as a “humor writer”. It leaves the impression that you’re like sitting in a windowless backroom somewhere, thinking up jokes suitable for late night monologues or standup routines or greeting cards. What you REALLY are is a My-Life-Is-Crazy-Yall-And-Writing-Is-My-Therapy-So-Here-Have-Some-Words writer.

But that’d be too hard for bookstores to shelve, I guess..

  45. I can’t wait to get mine! I hope the kitten delivery system got worked out – everyone needs a kitten!

  46. I haven’t read it yet, but I already know I like it. I know things that way. ….

  47. Woo-hoo!! I ordered my signed copy from B&N as well as my very own copy of “Let’s Pretend….” since I had previously borrowed that from the library. Can’t wait until they arrive!!

  48. I am so excited! I preordered it the first day you could! Can’t wait to have it in my hands!

  49. I’m currently preparing myself for my first big move from a tiny little town of 10,000 to big ol’ San Diego. You book literally comes out at the same time as my move. While I will be leaving behind my entire support system I KNOW that this book is going to help lift me up and keep me moving instead of being completely paralyzed in fear. I’m already looking forward to the amount of support I’ll get from you book alone. So much love to you Jenny <3

  50. Yay!!! Can’t wait to have my own copy and read it all the way thru in one sitting even if I have to stay awake all night! 😁

  51. Your preview reading of the book made me want to buy the audio version of the book because I think listening to you read it makes it infinitely better. I can’t wait to get my copy.

  52. Of course we will love it… it’s YOU Jenny.. this tribe will love pretty much everything you make. (except for vomit, of course you don’t really “make” that the same way you make a book, but you know what I mean).

  53. Where’s my kitten? I’m waiting…(taps desk impatiently)

Like the others, I’m itching to read the book (and not from fleas, so you don’t have to worry about the kittens — for which I’m STILL waiting). I’m sure it will be as awesomatious and oh-so-mondiferously-fabuloso as the last book.

  54. YAY! I have limited disposal income, and I had to choose between ordering a signed copy of Furiously Happy or a signed copy of Christopher Moore’s new book. It was close, but I chose you. Can’t wait to read it!

  55. I’m going on a bucket list trip to Europe soon, and although I can’t take “Furiously Happy” with me, I wanted to let you know that on the Sept. 22 publication date, Rory will be traveling with me from Avignon to Paris via the TGV (high speed train). I will try to post his picture, but I’m technologically challenged, so no promises! Félicitations pour votre nouveau livre, “Furieusement Heureux.”

  56. Incredibly excited for you and for all of us who get to read another book of yours!! Congrats!

  57. Jenny, I am so excited to get the book; I’m sure I will love it as much, or more, than I loved the last one. And I don’t want to rain on your parade–or rather, your publisher’s parade–but the blurb by Brene Brown has a grammatical error so glaring that it sets my teeth on edge. “But the two things you’ll never do is . . .” Ouch! Of course, maybe this is a test to see how OCD I am. The answer is VERY OCD, at least when it comes to subject-verb agreement. For the sake of those of us cursed with this particular form of OCD, I hope they’ll fix the book jacket.

  58. I hate telling smart women this because it’s not the most important thing about you, but you are beautiful. I mean, stunningly pretty. And hilarious. Don’t forget that.

  59. I preordered the book some time ago. Then I phoned my husband to say, “We wanted TWO copies so that I could have an autographed one, right?” He seemed confused and filled with thoughts like, “I have made some terrible life choices that have led me to this moment.” I assumed that was code for yes so I bought an autographed copy too. stares at mailbox

  60. Wow! Just looking at it makes me FURIOUSLY HAPPY!! I can’t wait to read it and I’m really hoping you decide to do a signing here in San Antonio so I can get a signed copy!!!

  61. “[Lawson] writes with a rambling irreverence that makes you wish she were your best friend.”
…you mean you’re not? Because I am pretty sure you are. But not sure, in like, a creepy way.

  62. So I preordered in April, and today I ordered another copy at BookPeople in Austin so I can get into the “priority line” at the book signing. Which is good, since I won’t get my copy from Amazon until after your reading in Austin. Also because I will have an awesome gift for someone special come Christmas! If you start getting anxious during your book tour, just remember that all of the people in the crowd adore you. And you deserve all that love, really you do.

  63. What wonderful comments on the back, love them. I read your first book several times and then loaned it to everyone I love so they could also enjoy it.

  64. I am so very happy for you! I know this will be a tremendous success. Say “hello” to the long-suffering Victor for us. Love you.

  65. Woop! Woooop! You go GF!!
Listened to your audio blurb and LOVED it!! 😹
Can’t wait for the whole shebang!!

  66. I’m so excited for you and about this book. You didn’t come to a city near me last tour but you are COMING TO MY ACTUAL CITY(!) this time. I’m coming to see you, but my copy of your first book has a bookplate and now I think that my copy of the second book will feel left out without one, even though I figure you’ll sign it in person when I see you so that would be redundant. As I’m typing this I realize it sounds pretty silly, but it’s what I think about.

  67. “A Funny Book about Horrible Things” Who wouldn’t want to read this???

I’ve pre-ordered and signed up for a book plate, too. Are you doing/did you already do the audio book reading yourself, too? Cuz that would be like having you visit in person, but without any stress for either of us.

  68. Truly excited for you…and then me! Can’t wait for my preorder copy and bookplate. Jenny, you rock.

  69. Congratulations! Can’t wait for my very own copy to arrive!!!!

P.S. I love the 1,2,3,4,5,6 subscripts. Especially 2 and 5, although out of context with 3, 4, and maybe 6, and especially the first one, neither 2 nor 5 would make any sense.

  70. Been following you around the internet since 2009, and I have to say, it’s a pure joy to see you doing so well. I know you go into the depression cave every now and then (it’s one of my favorite stomping grounds, too), but your courage to move through the pain and come out hilariously sharing your experience with others is a true gift. I’m really happy for you. I met you in Los Angeles at your Let’s Pretend book signing, so hopefully I’ll get to see you again if you tour with Rory. I adore you so much it doesn’t even bother me that he has the same name as my ex-husband who left me for a really hot twenty-year old four months after our wedding. It was a long time ago. I’m furiously happy without him. Sending happy thoughts and prayers for a wonderful launch! xo simone

  71. I am saving this book for our trip to Guatemala for day of the dead. Somehow seems very appropriate ( now if I can hold my self back from taking ‘just a peek’ which I know will turn into page turning tourettes. Congratulations!

  72. Congrats on the real book. It is too bad that it will cost me an extra $5.50. But I do love the cover and I will get a copy.

  73. I had an email with the delivery date for my pre-ordered book. It made happier than it probably should have. Can wait to get it, read it… shred it?… and nest in it! Those are some pretty great blurbs you got there!

  74. Can’t wait to preorder (tomorrow is payday!) but I just signed up for the book plate! Can’t wait to read the book and snort with laughter at all your adventures! Hugs to you and kudos! YOU DID IT!

  75. My best friend ever might love you more than she loves me and, because of that, if you sent me a signed book (or bookplate) I would totally be unselfish and give it to her. That’s how much she loves you and how much I love her. It’s a vicious circle, but you make it better by making us laugh. Thanks for that!!

  76. I can’t wait to meet you at your reading/ book signing in November. Here’s the one thing that makes that wait a bit more tolerable:
I won an advanced copy of “Furiously Happy”!

I would have finished reading it by now if it weren’t for the fact that I can’t resist going back into chapters I’ve read… so I can read them again… out loud… to my wife… who probably hates me for spoiling it for her. Too bad. The deliciously bittersweet hilarity of it is just too much for me to keep to myself. Knock-knock motherfuckers… All Hail The Bloggess!

  77. Augusten Burroughs and Neil Gaiman reviewed your book! What an honor. Congrats. I just loved your first book and your blog. Thanks for sharing yourself with all of us.

  78. Oh, and by the way, just in case you actually read this, can you please, pretty please do a signing in San Antonio? It just seems like really unfair that I share a town with you and can’t go to a signing 🙁

  79. Congratulations, Jenny, and thank you for you. I’ve been having an agonizing few weeks, fighting depression – again – and the back of the book jacket made me laugh. Day = better.

  80. I will be f*g furiously happy when Amazon delivers this!
Congrats….it’s going to be a stellar read!

  81. Pre-ordered this through Amazon a while back, and they told me today that they will have it delivered the day it is released in stead of making me wait! Now I just have to make it to September 22nd.

  82. A blurb from Christopher Moore?!?!?!?! He is my 2nd favorite author. You remain #1.

  83. SOOO EXCITING! Congratulations on being an awesome person and now a twice published author. Good job you!

  84. Congratulations! You won the interwebs (again) and free set of stabby knives! Can hardly wait to get my mitts and eyeballs on your new book. Kisses. And kittens. Lots of soft purry kittens.

  85. This one time you CAN judge how great a book is going to be by its cover! I can’t wait to get my advance order copy from Amazon!

  86. SQUEEEE! I can’t wait to get my copy and read all about me! Wait…how do you know about me? Are you stalking me? I can only hope id be so lucky.

  87. Wow, look at those blurbs, and one from Brene’ Brown, Congratulations! I can’t wait to get my copy!

  88. Yay, Jenny!!! I’ve pre-ordered 2 copies of your book at Porter Square Books for myself and one of my oldest, dearest friends, which (according to the very friendly clerk) means we get seats at your reading/signing there on 10/17–is there any particular baked good you’re especially fond of? Because I fully intend to bring you something freshly made for the occasion, and want to make sure you’re not allergic to chocolate or something similarly awful (the allergy, that is, not the chocolate, which makes life worth living and keeps my eyes brown; the hair now calls for Nice ‘n’ Easy these days…). I’m also trying to figure out if I can manage to mount the Simmons College mascot, Stormy the Shark, for you, since I’m working on a Master’s degree in their Library Science school. (Um, that’s “mounting” as in “affixing a miniature Stormy to a wooden plaque”, not anything related to illegal activities with large aquatic carnivores…I don’t know whether I need to get my mind out of the gutter, or everyone else does, or both…) Consider yourself hugged long distance (if that doesn’t seem too weird or isn’t too upsetting), OK?

  89. First time I’ve ever preordered a book, and even though it means that I have to wait 7 weeks for the other books I ordered to arrive too.. I am so freaking excited!!

Ps.. First time I’ve ever followed a blog

Pps.. First time I’ve ever replied to a blog

Ppps.. First time I’ve ever used more than one ps and I have no idea if its pps or pss, but pss looked like I was trying to whisper in your ear

  90. I am going to buy this book. I swear. Loved the first one. Just might take a few years to read… Sobbing Disorder and all…

  91. Can’t wait to read it! You are awesome and I recommend your blog to anyone that asks and even some who don’t!

  92. Jenny you’re so awesome! I wish we were friends…. 😊 you make me happy! I thoroughly enjoy you’re taxidermied animals… I am kinda living vicariously thru you…. When I decorate my husband tells me to take it down about 10 notches…. Assuming there’s only 10 notches 😉

  93. YAAAAAYYYY! I’m furiously happy for you, Jenny! You did it!!! I’m so excited and I can’t wait to read it! Love, hugs, kittens, sparkly things, taxidermist animals, etc! Congratulations!

  94. Yay!!! And now I have to buy a physical version too because… well… Hunter with Rory riding shotgun is something I need to hold in person – not just the Kindle version… 🙂 Congratulations!

  95. I’m sure I’m not the first person to say I am FURIOUSLY HAPPY about this!!!! (And for you!)

  96. Why do I have to give my birth month and year to get a bookplate? Do I gave to prove I was born? What if you decide I’m too young or old or Piscean or something and I don’t deserve one? I feel so insecure and am I want is your new book so I dan laugh until it hurts.

  97. Whyyyy whyyyyyyyyy aren’t you coming to Vancouver Canada…shit. Getting furiously happy the day it’s released. Sad face, FML sad face, not close enough to the border sad face, why am I not a miilionare jet setter sad face,100 sad effing faces till I get that damn book!!!! You are the best can’t wait!!

  98. It’s my own fault for living in a place that is two exits past the middle of nowhere. Seriously, no sane person chooses to move from New York to Idaho. I should get myself checked out. The fact that I can’t get to one of your book signings is the insult to my self-inflicted injury. Thank goodness for your bookplate charity…without it my exile would be all the bleaker. I just hope that this book is as pee-inducingly funny as the last one.

  99. Congratulations Jenny, cant wait to read it,pity I cant get the bookplate though ( I live in Singapore)

  100. I was diagnosed with breast cancer today, and I am looking very forward to reading your new book as a way to cheer myself up. I hope it makes me pee myself laughing like your last one did. 🙂

  101. P.S. Am I really? It’s not the bit about the restraining order for stalking you is it?
P.P.S No I didn’t BECAUSE THEY WON’T SEND THEM TO THE UK
    P.P.P.S You’re welcome!

  102. Mate, the minute you said Victor laughed out loud, I’m all – maybe I should buy it for my boyfriend who also never lol’s. Or more I’m just going to buy it for myself and then read it out loud to my boyfriend while he tries to sleep so he can get a better understanding of why I’m so obsessed with you.

  103. My head is just about ready to explode waiting for this book. Not only did I pre-order the digital version for my iPad (weeks ago) I have now pre-ordered the actual book book version just so I can hold it in my grubby little paws AND request a book plate AND hopefully make it to your NYC signing to have you sign it for real in person. (I am requesting the book plate as backup in case I can’t get out of work in time to make it to the signing–I would take the whole damn day off just to make sure but I just started a new job this summer and I still won’t be allowed to take vacation time yet.) So what I am saying is: SO FRIGGIN EXCITED FOR THIS BOOK. WANT TO READ NOW.

Also, why doesn’t Amazon make this like when they released the new Harry Potter books and promise to deliver it the day it comes out? In specially designed Furiously Happy boxes of course. Hey, Bezos, get on it, you’re missing the boat here!

Also also, do you personally know Christopher Moore? I have read every single thing he has written and I have his new book on pre-order too, but just the digital version not the book book. I don’t buy double books for just anyone, you know. Actually, I have never bought double books for anyone before, until you, Jenny Lawson. You just make me throw all caution and reason to the wind.

  104. Can’t wait to read it! Congrats!! I’m so glad you have found your place in the world & given a home for so many others through your books.

  105. That is the single-best inside dust cover I have ever read! I am not sure there is any award for those, but there should be. Looking forward to the book!

  106. Oh my god! I already love it. It’s so pretty and the conversation with the publisher is already hilarious. 😀 Can’t wait. I’ll probably gonna read it in english but I hope it will get translated into german (soon). <3 Congratulations, Jenny. You’re amazing! 🙂

  107. When your husband knows everything that’s in the book and still reads it AND LAUGHS? Totally the best ever. Plus IT SPARKLES I mean come on.

  108. I want another copy for my Little Free Library. No way am I putting MY copy in there. Also, you’re the best at being broken of all the broken people I know, and I know some pretty broken motherfuckers. I mean that with all sincerity and empathy.

  109. yaay! I’ll buy it cause it’s Your story–but if I knew nothing about you, I’d buy it for those endpapers!

  110. Congratulations! You are awesome – I hope you know that. You deserve the nice words people have said about you.

  111. Congratulations! Does it feel like you just gave birth, only without all the gooey stuff? I can’t wait to read it. So happy the human-skin-bound copy is available here in Columbus, Ohio at the Book Loft…love that place!

  112. I can’t wait to see it in my store, in my house, in my hands under the covers with a flashlight late, late at night. Covers won’t hide my laughter though. If this is even half as funny as “Let’s Pretend…”, the whole neighborhood is gonna hear me…

My I offer my pre-congratulations on landing on the NYT Bestseller list again?

  113. These are some pretty impressive authors giving rave reviews; I am so proud for you. Can’t wait to receive my copy, and to wear my “Broken but Still Magical” t-shirt to the book signing!!!! Go Jenny!!!

  114. I don’t even care what’s in it. I would buy it based on the illustrations on the flyleaf alone. AND THE GOLD GLITTER ON THE COVER. That alone makes me so happy.

  115. That’s fantastic! Now all I have to do is finish reading “Let’s Pretend This Never Happened”. Don’t be insulted – I have an attention-span problem. I have no idea how to spell what my mother calls it but it loosely translates to “ants in the pants”

  116. ha ha ha you hope we’ll like it! oh my God. As if we wouldn’t like it. Seriously???? 🙂

I cannot WAIT to get my copy! And my signed bookplate! And my box of kittens!

  117. My daughter has asked me to announce that if anyone does not want their free kittens, she would be happy to take them all. Seriously. On a trip to India, she announced that she will be adopting all stray dogs, and then proceeded to count 137 stray dogs before losing track. I am expecting those 137 dogs to arrive at our house any day.

I will be moving out of our house the day after they arrive.

  118. Neil Gaiman loves you writing. Holy literary shit balls, if I were you, forget about being all published, I would spend week staring at his blurb and making squeeeeeee noises that could reanimate Totes McGoats. Yep. Truth.

  119. See?! I got so flummoxed by Gaiman that I left out words in my comment. You + Gaiman broke my grammar.

  120. I don’t know if you read all these comments, but I hope you do because I really want you to know this. My Mother has been ill for the last three months, she suffered a massive nervous breakdown. Two nights ago I pulled out ” Let’s pretend this never happened” and I read her the chapter on the post it notes to Victor….and she laughed, belly laughed, tears rolled down her face. It was the first time in 3 months I have heard my Mom laugh and I just want to say Thank you. I can’t wait to get the next book and read it to her.

  121. Hurray!!!!! “Let’s Pretend This Never Happened” got me and my best friend from South Carolina to Miami, driving in. the. rain. We have both been anxiously awaiting the new book for our next road trip!!!

  122. So excited for you and me! p.s. I tried to sign up for a bookplate and misread the click right here for ‘right click’ here which of course doesn’t work but my husband figured it out and I sure thinks I am a moron 🙁

  123. One more (weird) thing to be proud of…this from Amazon page…
Furiously Happy: A Funny Book About Horrible Things Hardcover – September 22, 2015
    by Jenny Lawson (Author)
    #1 Best Seller in Depression
Yes, Jenny Lawson, your new book is the #1 Best Seller in DEPRESSION!!!
(Of course, the stuff about Amazon has been pretty depressing all by itself. I’ll buy elsewhere.)
Book plate appreciated (because why not?) but you appreciated most of all.

  124. This is incredibly exciting! I loved your first book, and can’t wait to get my hands on this one.

  125. I got my confirmation from Amazon about a shipping date for my order. First I was like o crap call the bank someone hacked my account. Than I was all like oh WAIT I DID order something. You were so right it was like a surprise to my future self from my past self… also I will probably forget that I ordered the book again before it arrives, but I am BEYOND excited!!!

  126. Oh. My. God. The people who wrote blurbs for your book would make me cry. A snotty, ugly cry. Because they are so awesome. It’s proof that you are beyond awesome, not that we needed it. I’m dyyyyyyyyyying to get my copy. And I feel weirdly “best friend proud” of you for finishing another great book and getting it out there.

  127. One is totally a number. And I am so exicted that we are in the book. How cool!

  128. I received the bookplate for the first book, and I’d love to have it for the second! I can’t wait!

  129. Eeeee!!! Sorry, that was my immediate reaction.

Amazon tells me my copy will be arriving sometime between September 28 and October 2. I can’t wait to read it. Well, obviously I have to but I do not like it. 😉

  130. I’m a native Texan living in NC, Whenever something weird in Texas makes national news, my neighbors and coworkers look at me as if to say “Well? Explain please,” immediately followed by a 2nd, more troubling look “are we safe with her in the room with us?” My stock answer is: Everything is bigger in Texas, including the crazy. I couldn’t be more proud of a fellow Texan that happens to be a complete stranger to me (except maybe Willie Nelson.) You make the crazy look good in every possible way. You make it okay for the rest of us to bring our own crazy, blinking & squinty-eyed, out into the sunlight and to know we are not alone. I love Willie Nelson, but he has never done anything like that for me. I am genuinely happy for you. Thank you for sharing your life with all of us.

  131. SQUEEEEE!!!!!! I can’t wait!!! I’ll be buying a hardcover copy the day it comes out! If you still have a bookplate left over, I’d love one!!

  132. Congrats, Jenny!! I can’t wait to read it!

I have to comment on the last quote on the back cover. So if I laugh while reading your book and taking a sip of water, is Diet Pepsi still going to come out of my nose? Because that’s a freaking miracle, Jenny! You can turn water into nose Pepsi. That’s the quote that should be on your back cover! Also, it’s polite to warn people that transmutation could occur in their nasal passages.

  133. Congrats Jenny and hugs from New Zealand, which I am sure you will visit on your book tour this time, after I bitched so much about you totally fucking over those of us Down Under. Let me rephrase that… See you EnZed.

  134. Woo-hoo! Congrats! Waiting for it to show at local bookstore (the Berkshires are nice this time of year ya know (really only time it isn’t all wet, cold, snowy, or muddy)).

  135. OMG, Jenny. Neil Gaiman wrote a blurb. OMG! I’m a big fan of his and a big fan of yours. Can’t wait to read your book:)

  136. I pre-ordered on April 1, 2015 and it does not appear I have an option for the bookplate when I go back to look at my order so I may have to seek you out in person!

  137. Just noticed your publisher… Every time I see FLATIRON written in CAPS, I don’t think ‘Flat-Iron’, I think ‘Flat-Ear-On’, in a way that I wouldn’t if it was written FlatIron or indeed flat iron.

It all started when I bought a travel guide to New York, and it said ‘walk down x street to see the famous FLATIRON BUILDING, which is of course in it’s namesake shape…’ and I just thought ‘what on earth kind of shape is a flat-ear-on?’…

  138. Congratulations!!! I can honestly say that you and your writings have gotten me through so much. I was lucky enough to make it to the last book signing (I hope you liked the rubber ducks). Sadly, I’m working when you’re back in Boston, so I’ll be preordering a signed copy this payday.

  139. I pre-ordered an autographed copy. I have to go back to school/work in September and I am nervous as Hell, so this will be my “something to look forward to” reward for surviving. Thank you so much, Jenny. You are a gem!

  140. You wrote it Jenny, we couldn’t not love it, because we love you! Cannot wait to get my hands on this book, and a few extra for friends who I’m pretty sure it would help. So furiously happy for you!!

  141. well when Parade tells me i will spurt Diet Coke through my nose my only response can be “I am all in”!

  142. Do you know how fun it is to stand in a book store and hold up your book to my friends and scream “I know her! I know her!” It’s definitely more fun than the dentist. So proud for you!!

  143. Do you know how much fun it is to stand in the book store holding your book in my hand screaming to my friends “I know her! I know her!” More fun than the dentist! So proud for you love!!

  144. You should read Little, Big by John Crowley. It is the only book that has ever made me feel so tiny and so giant at the exact same time. That may sound strange, but it is totally a feeling you will want to experience.

  145. May I ask a dumb question?
If I bring my pre-ordered book to the bookstore of one of the tour locations, may I get it signed? I mean…will the bookstore even let me bring it in? I know some bookstores are kinda touchy about people not buying books at their bookstore, but I don’t want to buy it there on the day lest I seem like I just HAPPENED to be there and thought I kill some time and pop into this bookstore and oh look the author is here isn’t that quaint…

I don’t want to be “that person.”

    Can I bring my book?

  146. Will it be available in eBook format? I want to have a copy on my Kobo along with my hard copy, the same way I do with “Let’s Pretend ….”

    (September 22nd, I think. ~ Jenny)

  147. OMG, I can’t believe you’re coming to Santa Cruz, California is December! My husband and I are OLD, OLD, OLD but will most definitely stand in line to hear you read your newest book and get our copies signed. People in Santa Cruz are a little quirky so we expect there will be a huge crowd but we are up for the challenge! I’m getting my two signed limited edition copies in the mail today and expect to be laughing or crying hysterically in bed tonight! You are AWESOME!!!!
