If it’s Sunday this must be Chicago.

Hello, Chicago!  I’m here to see you but there isn’t enough room at the bookstore so we’re doing this at a church.  For real.  4pm at the Ebenezer Lutheran Church, 5 minutes from the bookstore.  And now you can tell everyone that you can’t do whatever it was you were supposed to do because it’s Sunday and you have to go to church.

  1. I’m more amused that the reading will be ASL interpreted – I think we’re going to learn a lot more about ASL profanity today

  2. Now you’re even more like Mother Theresa! I can’t think of anything better than the sounds of laughter filling that church. You’ve made an impact on so many of us broken people.

  3. I worked and lived in Milwaukee for 18 long months. It’s more like hell than you’d think.

    But I’ll be there Tuesday!!!

  4. If decorum causes you lots of internal stress…I would agree it’s causing cancer. So you got the Mamavation stamp of approval on that one. Go ahead and break the rules my dear 😉

  5. After reading this post, I can’t get scenes from Dogma out of my mind. Don’t worry, though, Alanis Morrisette will save you in the end. Wish I could be there. Also, just to be safe, Don’t Blink.

  6. If you find yourself with any downtime poke around the Wooley Mammoth. It’s by the church we’re taking over and full of odd taxidermy and other such fun gifts!

  7. Trying to talk myself into driving to Milwaukee in my questionable car on a school night. Can you just… maybe stop in Green Bay? A little? We have cheese.

  8. Welcome to Chicagoland!! Make sure someone gets you an Italian Beef sandwich (juicy, with or w/o sweet peppers/hot jardeniere (hot pepper mixture) and some fries. If you’re so inclined. Wish I was there!!!

  9. I stopped going to church (regularly) about 20 years ago. I think I would start attending again if all church-folks were as loving and accepting as you and your fans.

  10. Really hoping that you start your “sermon” with “Holy shit, you guys.” It’d be the perfect place to do it.

  11. What is communion is in the Church of Bloggessianism? Be sure to write about it later. For some reason I’m thinking Cheezits and vodka shots…

  12. Angel – I want one too now. One of the best local places around (NWI), Zel’s, closed their one store near me.

  13. Jenny, I have two tickets for today, but two of my dogs got skunked last night, so we’re not going to be able to make it. I’m sorry to miss you!!

  14. I’ve got a feeling church will be especially crowded today. Maybe you’ll run into Lavern and Shirley in Milwaukee.

  15. Just before the start time. The main floor is pretty full, and up here in the balcony is filling up. I am pretty happy to be here, and hope everyone else, especially the Bloggess herself, enjoys this even more than I will.

  16. I just finished Furiously Happy. Is it all true? I loved it and totally relate so it was quite comforting. Kick it on your tour!

  17. I was at your Chicago reading today. I wanted to stay for the signing, but there were too many people, and the ones sitting behind me during the reading were VERY LOUD and flaily and gave me a ferocious headache. It all pretty much made me too stabby to stick around so I tapped out before I could say, “Hey, thank you for your work. I enjoy the shit out of it, and what you’re putting in the world by doing it.”
So there, I said it here. Which you may or may not read, but at least I got to say it. Sort of to you. More like at you in a detached kind of way. But better than not at all.
Enjoy the rest of the tour!

  18. I was in Chicago and at that very book store last Saturday and bought your awesome book. At the time I was wondering how everyone would fit in there – glad you found a bigger space. I love you Bloggess, you crack me up so hard!

  19. Jenny, I didn’t think I could like your work any better, and then I went to your reading in Chicago!! All I can say is … WOW… you nailed it!!!

  20. That reminds me…when you are in minneapolis you should eat at Hell’s Kitchen. You are just the kind of person who will appreciate it!

  21. It was so good to finally meet you today. I was totally anxious and mind-blanky when I met you, but you seemed to understand probably without even knowing it. I relate to you more than I can say here. Thank you for being your wonderful authentic and free spirited self. You give me hope that I can learn to be okay with being myself, too. I had trouble formulating a coherent thought out of my head and into words, but I’m so glad I finally got to give you a hug at least.

  22. I just wanted you to know how deep that last chapter resonated in my soul. It was like I was talking to myself. Every month I sit with my prescription in my hands wanting to just take the whole thing and make the pain stop. I don’t and now I’m overwhelmed by how not alone I am. Thank you for helping me see that. M.S.

  23. I’ll be in Milwaukee on Tuesday and am looking forward to meeting you and the other folk who show up. My anxiety has been really bad lately, and it’ll be nice to be in a group who will understand. There seems to not really be much in the way of Milwaukee anxiety support that I can find. Only one group on Facebook, but it’s for social anxiety. I was hoping for something more generalized.

Anyway, I’ll be at the signing with cats on… my fingernails. Anyone who wants an anxious friend come say hi!

  24. Next stop Chicago! Nooooooo! I literally just yesterday picked this up in audiobook form for my trip to Chicago (,from Toronto). 8 solid hours of your voice in my ears, 8 solid hours of recounting, and identifying laughing along with my own quirks and oddities. As i lay bed looking out into this ever bustling Chicago morning I see that I’ve missed the opportunity to not only hear but to actually witness this splendid human phenomenon that is you. Please say, “Oddly enough my next stop is Milwaukee”, as that is where my travels are taking me. Thank you for your honesty, and mostly thank you for pretending. A new fan~ wil

  25. my mom ”Volunteered” me to go to a church BBQ with my grandparents next weekend… somehow I doubt it will be anywhere near as fun as seeing you in church.

Grandma doesn’t get my knock knock jokes. LOL

  26. So couldn’t make it to see in in Chi-town but started the book over the weekend. Needless to say, I’ve changed my underpants repeatedly (not fair to us moms with bladder issues).

Love you and all you say for us broken people! Furiously Happy in West Chicago!

  27. Just saw you went to the Woolly Mammoth store in Chicago!! Yay!!! Hope you had fun!!

  28. Ha ha ha! I’m sorry I missed you! I was accidentally on vacation in Fl for 5 days. However! I did receive my name plate sticker thingy in the mail, so thank you!!! I hope you had a great time in Chicago and got to eat lots of awesome food our city has to offer! 🙂

  29. I couldn’t come to see you because of babysitting problems. So I went to Target and bought all the copies of your book they had (which was 2, so it wasn’t impressive) and started reading one of them. And thank you. I’ve been alternately crying and laughing since then, and I’ve never felt so at home with words. Thank you. It’s exactly what I needed. Thank you.
