ALL THE HIGH FIVES!

YOU GUYS.

Do you know what this is?  This is the finished final draft of my next book, which I have finally turned into my wonderful and incredibly patient editor.  WHOOP!

Not the actual title, obviously

Every time I write a book I think it’s the last one… that I’ll never be funny again, that I don’t have the focus or energy to finish.  That I’ve run out of life and of stories.  And I did for a bit, which is why I’m turning this in far behind the deadline that was set.  I work slow…slower than most writers, I think.  I work around depression and anxiety and assorted bullshit and I delete two pages for every three I write BUT in the end, I am left with stories.  They are stories I’m proud of, even though so many of them involve the most ridiculous moments of my life.

So today I breathe a quick sigh of relief and celebrate this small (but enormous for me) victory.  And tomorrow I leave for Italy, where we have not planned properly at all and will spend 6 days getting lost as we celebrate Hailey’s and Victor’s birthdays.  And then I’ll come back and get notes from my editor and begin the process again.

And that’s a very good thing.

Thank you for seeing me through.

OMFG IT’S DONE is a great title. It would certainly draw attention.

Have a great time on your trip! Sometimes you find the best places when lost.

  20. I’m kinda actually feelin’ that title. Subtitle: “I Finished This So My Editor Won’t Bother Me While I’m On Vacation.”

  21. OMFG CONGRATS! Best news I’ve heard all week. And I think you should stick with that working title.

  34. I AM ACTUALLY DANCING AT MY DESK!! WOOOO HOOO! JENNY HAS A NEW BOOK SO I HAVE A NEW BOOK AND I CAN’T WAAAAAAIIIIIIIIIITTTTTTT!! WHAT A FRIDAY!!! WAY TO BRING IT HOME LADY! XOXOXOXOXStacy

  35. Unplanned and lost in Venice is one of the best weekends I’ve had, so don’t worry. I never did find that kid in the red cape though.
And well done over the book. I think anyone who writes one in time for their first, second or third deadline is an overachiever 🥳

  36. Jenny, I’m so excited! I have read Furiously Happy over again at least 10 times and it never fails to make me laugh! I can’t wait to read this one 20 times!

  37. Yea! Congratulations! You’re having quite the summer… finished another best-seller, moving forward with a kick-ass bookstore, going to Italy… You’re breaking all the barriers of depression by doing meaningful and positive shit. Plus, I’m sure there’s plenty that you haven’t told us about.

Have a great trip and come back with more to share! Congratulations again!!!

  38. Brilliant! I am looking forward to reading it. I hope you’ll come to San Diego again for your book tour!!!

  39. Yay! Congratulations! I’m so excited and happy for you. You are an inspiration to all who live with depression and anxiety. Italy will be a nice breather, yeah?

  40. Congratulations on finishing your book!! Have fun in Italy! We just got back from Germany and my phone somehow locked itself during my flight, I had all of the hotel info, where to get off the train, etc., stored in my phone so I didn’t have to carry a bunch of stuff… Finally had to go to a local store after getting off the train at what I hoped was the right stop. Found a tractor supply company because there were no taxis anywhere. They were nice enough to give me a ride to my hotel, so I gave him my chocolates I had bought to snack on but didn’t.

  41. squeeeeeee! That’s so awesome!!! Ohhh I can’t wait to read it! Oh, and I love the name of the document on the bottom of that page, it seems like a lot of writers do that (I’m currently working on a document titled ‘FULL Remy-story FINAL EDIT’!)

Can’t wait to see all the awesome pictures/posts from Italy, I love living vicariously through your family!

  42. That is fantastic in so many ways! For you as a literary artist, for those of us who love and appreciate your creations and for your family as they can see and feel your relief! Enjoy every second of your trip! Hit both Pompey and Herculaneum (they are close to one another but experienced different volcanic outcomes so the results are not the same). One has skeletons frozen in position while the other has the plaster molds of the outer bodies. Post pics for all of us jealous kids at home. 😁

  43. I would SO buy a book called OMFG It’s Done. Brilliant title. 🙂 I’m sure whatever it is you’re actually calling it will be equally ‘can’t wait to buy’-ish.

  44. Congratulations on finishing your book!! Wahooo! I am selfishly very excited…because I’ll get to read it! So, congratulations to me, too!
Enjoy Italy…getting lost there is the very best way to see it!

  45. Yippee on the book! And I am going to assume you are not going to Italy Texas but the country shaped like a boot, so go have ALL the fun and give those Italians something to talk about! You represent us well!!!!

  49. CONGRATULATION!!! You are amazing and I cant wait to read all of your stories that help me and many others through our depression/anxiety/oatmeal wading days!

  50. Congrats! Have fun in Italy! I was supposed to go to Italy on Tuesday with my husband but the horrible tour operator changed the date, stole the money when we asked for refunds & said we forfeit any chance to go if the trip ever happens.

  51. Congratulations! I can’t wait to read the book or to hear about your trip to Italy and all the adventures thereof. Safe travels and have fun.

  52. Can’t wait to read it. Let us know when it hits the shelf. Your BOOKS are the funniest I have ever read.

  53. So many congratulations and happy jumping up and down hugs to you! And to me because I cannot wait to read it (and savor it and re-read the parts that really resonate and read the funniest parts to my husband even though he’ll have no idea and I love it already!)

  54. Couldn’t have gotten a better email after a long day at work!! Congratulations!!!

  55. I so admire your ability to take control over your liiiffee! Way to go!
I may have accidentally quit working to be an artist full time, but with getting paid $0/day, I don’t know how creative professionals do it! Thanks for motivating.

  56. Can you please time the opening of your bookstore to coincide with the release of your book so we can all flock there to haul in lots of signed copies while hanging out in Nowhere???

  57. You are living life to the fullest and it’s beautiful and exciting to see! I love seeing wonderful things happen to and for wonderful people. 🙂

You also have true fans…regardless of when you release your next book your readers (like me) will happily scoop those up stat!!! 👍👍👍

  64. Congratulations!!! I cannot wait to read the new book. Happy birthday to Hailey and Victor. Enjoy your trip to Italy. I’m jealous and look forward to seeing the pictures.

  65. Jenny, I just recently found your blog/books/ and I have read them and listened to them to audible over and over again. You have helped me be more vocal about my mental illness, forgive myself more on my bad days, and inspired me to write again (a hobby and dream I had set aside for many years because I think anyone would think I was funny or get my weird sense of humor). I am so beyond excited for this next book, and I wanted to thank you from the bottom of my heart for continuing to tell your stories.

  66. All and Each of you, have an adventure filled vacation in Italy, awash in the glow of one more book, a tough and satisfying job, Well Done!! Not knowing Italian, Good Journey to you!

  67. Please, please please read the audio again. Love hearing you telling your own stories <3

  68. Congrats and safe travels!!!! I’m so excited for you that you finished before Italy!!!

I sent my first agent query letter for my novel last Monday. I am equal parts terrified that she’ll want to work with me as I am that she will not. The novel is about a shape shifter finding love with an obsessive sock knitter. I dream of someday doing a reading Nowhere! 🙂

    Enjoy Italy!!!!

  69. THIS IS THE BEST NEWS I HAVE RECEIVED SINCE FINDING OUT I WASN’T PREGNANT AFTER HAVING SEX BECAUSE I WANTED TO DOUBLE CHECK THAT I WASN’T APPALLED BY BALLS AND STILL SUPER GAY. 🙌 I am so gay. Anyway. Jenny, way to fucking go!! Enjoy Italy and revel in this accomplishment. I CAN’T WAIT TO READ THIS BOOK!!

  70. Congratulations. Virtual Champagne and confetti!! Big hugs! Have a great time in Italy.

  71. Woo hoo!! You did it girl!! High five!
Now check out my Facebook for a picture of our 2 day old chick with her momma. Cause it will make you smile!!
    And have a relaxing evening

  72. You did the thing! Have an awesome trip. Get lost, relax, eat all the gelato and who cares if anything is planned. You’ll all have fun because you’ll be together doing whatever you want.
Keep kicking ass because it’s a real inspiration.

  73. I’m so excited! Your books have inspired me so greatly (and living with anxiety), and I cannot wait for this new one. ❤️

  74. Yay that’s so exciting. I hope your editor is quick reading that because I can’t wait to get a copy in my hands. Well done Jenny and enjoy Italy.

  75. I know of few that would call it a small victory. Although many of us see our OWN victories that way, so there’s that. Have a great time in Italy!

  76. Congrats on sticking with it. Have a wonderful time in Italy. Try the pizza in Naples, it is THE BEST!

  77. This is absolutely amazing and wonderful news! I can’t wait to read it. Hopefully you also release it as an audio book too – it is extra delightful when you narrate your books too 🙂

  78. by the way, that is not a small feat for anyone. kudos to you!! and woohoo!!!!! you rock! enjoy it at!

  81. Congratulations! I am looking forward to reading this new books. Have a great adventure in Italy.

  82. I can’t breathe I’m so excited. Baby steps lead to leaps, you’ve proved that to us. Still astonished you have been able to focus and do this. Yikes, freakin amazing.

  83. WHOOP Indeed! Super congratulations on finishing and also keeping secret from us how close to finishing you have been! So, when do our ARC copies get here? Just kidding ya, but bet you have lots of volunteers. Enjoy sunny Italy! 💕💕💕💕💕

  84. Omg I’m so excited…..another book!!! I just finished your first one, read the second one first. Now that I’m done I want more!

  85. Oh, Jenny, I am so happy for you, and, selfishly, thrilled for me! I can’t wait to read it! Congratulations!

  86. In my opinion timing doesn’t matter. Battling through huge obstacles like depression and anxiety makes you a warrior (and oftentimes warriors need a rest, so we can gather our strength to fight on) I believe anything you write is worth the wait and I’m so glad we have another book to look forward to! I love your writing, your sense of humor, and your tenacity. Most of all I appreciate that you help me realize that I’m wonderful even with flaws like depression and anxiety…that I’m not alone in my strangeness and awkwardness. You make me laugh hysterically and help me to learn to accept and enjoy myself just as I am and I adore you so hard for that!
Hope y’all have an amazing trip ❤

  87. So excited for you…and us!! Have a blast in Italy and bring back even more stories. Also, please don’t compare yourself to other writers. Everyone does things at their place, no matter what it is. And you have all of us supporting you.

  88. Oh goodie!!! I can’t wait to read it! Congrats on all your hard work and muddling through. I hope Italy is the least stressful thing you’ve done all year, and I look forward to hearing about it in your blog when you get back, (or in your next book, whenever that may be…)

  89. We appreciate how hard you work to feed our hearts and funny bones, Jenny. This opus looks like a magnum.

  90. Congratulations!! You should be so proud of yourself!

I recently watched an uplifting short anime I think you might really like. It’s called My Roommate Is A Cat, and it’s free on CrunchyRoll. It’s about a writer with social anxiety, and I just feel like it might be right up your alley.

  91. Thank you so much for being you and bringing this tribe of wonderful people together. Thank you for spending so very much time writing books, we love them all! Have a great time in Italy!

  92. I am so amazed by you! And proud of you being able to actually write books around your illnesses. And I will pre-order from Amazon the second it becomes available because I love every word you write!

  93. Looking forward to reading your new book. Have a great time in Italy …it’s a wonderful place ..you’ll have a great time.

  94. Awesome! Love reading your books. And who says theres a time frame for writing books. I took years on my first and currently have 3 in progress. Cant wait to read this one. Have a great trip!

  95. Can’t wait! The very best thing is getting your books on audible so you can read them to me when I’m having a shitty day and need to laugh with someone who doesn’t judge my sense of humor 🙃

  96. This is the best thing that has happened to me in the entire month. You have another book. I could cry with happiness.
Also, Let’s pretend this never happened was on my reading list for this year. This is a book I will be (re)reading for school. I feel the need to tell you this.

  97. I am high five-ing you like crazy over here! So excited to read another one of your books, which will surely be a balm to my soul like your others were. So happy for you! Enjoy Italy.

  98. Yay!!! So excited for you! Lookin forward to reading it, and by the way… I LOVE the current title. 😂

  99. This is very exciting news! As far as you being a slower writer than most….all I can say is that you have GRRM beat, hands down. It took him 5 years to write Game of Thrones, the first in the Song of Ice & Fire series, and 6 years to write A Dance with Dragons which is the 5th and latest book published in this series. That was back in 2011. It’s 2019 and he is still working on book number 6. You are kicking his ass! And while his stories are amazing, your’s are uplifting and inspiring and give people hope…because so many of us have been in dark places. You help us find the light again. Keep up the amazing work!

  100. Already looking forward to it! So exciting! I love that you’re so real in your stories & blog … helps so many people with mental illness feel not so alone & others who don’t understand just a bit more. You’re fabulous!

  101. OH. MY. GOD-DUH!!!!!!!!!!!! YAAAAAY!!!! I’ve read and listened to your other books so often I almost know them by heart…

  102. I think your tribe understands that its not easy work, even when you love it. But since you are our favorite writer and we feel so connected to you through that work, you putting yourself through the struggle to let us read more is appricate. Thank you <3
