HOW TO BE OKAY WHEN NOTHING IS OKAY

Y’all. This should be a fancy-ass, glossy post where I breezily tell you about something I’m so excited about and I should be wearing a suit while talking to a news anchor as I toss my hair back and laugh confidently while not doing that anxiety-based blinking tic that comes on every fucking time I tell myself to not do that anxiety-based blinking tic.

Instead, I am writing this from under two cats while in my daytime pajamas with two inches of grey roots and blinking hard like a motherfucker. BUT…I’m also really happy because GUESS WHAT? NEW BOOK, Y’ALL:

This book is just as unhinged and baffling as my others, but it’s a little different. Two years ago when Hailey went off to college I fell into a pretty deep depression and felt utterly unmoored. I had a hard time living and writing and just being human, so I started using all of the tools and tricks that I’ve collected in the many decades I’ve lived with depression, anxiety, ADHD, executive dysfunction, squirrel-brain infestation, memory problems, etc to pull myself out. And I realized that all of these tricks that I rely on to save me are actually a pretty amazing toolbox of things that might help others too. This book pools together all of those strange hacks that keep me alive in spite of myself and that keep me creating even when it’s hard. Some are logical. Some are funny. Some are absolutely ridiculous. But together they are a quick-start manual that helped me to stay here, to keep finding joy even when it’s hard, and to stay creative in a world (and brain) that doesn’t always prioritize expression. They may speak a little more to those with my same issues, but I think they can help everyone who deals with fear, memory, focus issues, weariness of the world, doom-scrolling, introversion, artistic block, imposter syndrome, dumpster fires, or who just needs a little voice in their corner offering encouragement and reminding them that it will be okay.

I’ll have so much more to say about this book in the months to come, but for now…want to see the cover?

And you can preorder it today! Click here to preorder and keep that page bookmarked because I’ll be updating it with book tour dates and locations. I haven’t toured in so long that I don’t even know where to go so feel free to leave suggestions in the comments if you have a local place that you love.

I hope that it helps you to read it as much as it helped me to write it.

  1. Yay!!! Pre-ordering now and please come to Baltimore or somewhere in Maryland or Northern, VA. SO EXCITED!

  2. I’d read basically anything you write! Is there an option for signed copies?

(Yes! I’ll be doing book tour and signing books, plus a ton of signed books will be going to independent bookshops all over and of course at Nowhere as well. I think they even made a special link for preorders. I didn’t share it on my main page because I want all indie bookshops to get support but you can find it on the Nowhere front page. ~ Jenny)

  3. I went to preorder at Powell’s but all your other books came up – not this one! 🙁

(Yeah, that’s weird. I think some places take a little more time to populate, maybe? I’m sure they’ll have it soon though. Love them. ~ Jenny)

  4. Oh, happy day!!! Add to your toolbox ‘something to look forward to’. If you’re taking suggestions on places to talk about your new book (or just anything, really), I’ll suggest Roundtable Books in Topeka, KS. I know for a fact that co-owner Andrew loves your books. Congratulations on your new book!

  5. I’m so excited! Pre-ordering now and will buy for friends I know will love as well. Please come to Atlanta, please oh please!

  6. Please come to Saint Augustine Fl. Needful Books and Things is an Indy, woman owned shop and is amazing. We would pack the house. ❤️

  7. A new Jenny book is a mandatory pre-order! 🙂
If you can swing a stop at Vroman’s in Pasadena, I promise to not wimp out – I’d actually go there. <3

  8. OMG–this is great timing for me–my son started his senior year today and because of the issues I have I’ve been trying to figure out how to not fall into a pit of despair when he goes next year! Thank you!! Also, please come to Frederick MD (Curious Iguana is our independent bookseller in our lovely little downtown)!

  9. Very excited for the new book. Aaaaaannd…we are way out on the end of Long Island, NY (North Fork, not the crazy crowded South Fork with all the rich folks and celebrities like Gwyneth)…but our little town of Greenport has a tiny, wonderful, independent bookstore that I’m sure would be thrilled to have you for an event/signing. It’s run by Scott, the nicest guy, who is never happier than when ordering special request books for annoying customers like me…including your books in the past! Website: https://www.burtonsbooks.com
Will be spreading the word to my fellow Jenny fans to look out for the new book.

  10. OMG!! This is awesome! I’m so excited for your new book!! Pre-ordering it now.
I’m going to use a lot of exclamation points. 🙂 <3

  11. Cellar Door Books, in Riverside CA. A great, small, progressive bookstore in the Inland Empire. (They had to move to a new location recently, after previous location forced them out… likely to their Drag Queen Story Hour)

  12. Super excited for this!! My husband has bought me signed copies of all of your books and I always recommend them to everyone! Can’t wait! Also, please come to the Boston area, if at all possible, or anywhere north of NYC.

  13. I love this but really need it next week when I drop off my first child at college. Can I get an advanced copy???

  14. Jenny, I was having the worst day, I totaled my car last night, and she was my baby. You know? A beautiful orange Rouge. I’ll never find that again.
Girl, You just lit a fire in me, you have made me so happy and I’m so grateful for this feeling.
I’m so stoked for you and I can’t wait to see you in the Indianapolis area, with a new book!
You just give me two things to look forward to which gives me two things to keep me alive and to keep me going with nothing else will. I know I have you coming up and I get a new book. Wow! Thank you baby. I truly needed this today. You have saved my life, so many times Jenny🩵 thank you for everything. 🙌

(This literally made me cry. Giving you the biggest hug. ~ Jenny)

  15. Please please please come to Antigone Books in Tucson!!!! Also remember that in mid-March Tucson hosts the 3rd-largest-in-the-country book festival. If the publisher would print several thousand books by March 1, you could do your hour talk – it’s really a casual chat (with a host), then sign books for an hour – guaranteed you will sell out!!! Regardless I will preorder. Love you!!

(Oooh…that sounds like fun. ~ Jenny)

  16. Jenny, you are a breath of fresh air! Your honesty, humor and quirkiness are just magnetic and make you feel like family. Thank you for sharing your life and hilarious experiences with us – can’t wait to read your new book! Maybe it will inspire me to start writing again. 🤞🏻

  17. Yay! Playing the is it ADHD or perimenopause or chronic illness or burnout or all this *waves hands wildly* right now. I would love you to come somewhere drivable from Charlotte since a migraine made me miss your last Raleigh tour stop.

  18. Come to Tuscaloosa, Alabama! We have lots of book readers and it is a university town, so lots of college kids who need life hacks. Plus it’s the only place in the country named Tuscaloosa, and you HAVE to get that off your bucket list, remember? There is an independent bookseller named Ernest and Hadley where you could hang out and sign books. Or stamp them, that would be easier on your hands.

  19. 1. Yay! 2. Book Cellar in the Lincoln Square neighborhood in Chicago is great, but it’s an intimate space, so you may need something bigger.

  20. Please come to The Learned Owl in Hudson, Ohio! It’s an independent woman owned bookstore in a cute historic town located between Cleveland and Akron.

  21. New book! I may finally be in a place where I can read the last one soon. Covid brain+chronic illness not good for memory past 1 page… if you came to Lincoln or Omaha I would be overwhelmed with emotion, so maybe come? Or not?

  22. Please come back to Minnesota!
I’m waiting with anticipation to read your new book.

  23. You just made my day with this announcement! This is going to help so many people, including myself.
Please consider The Writer’s Block in Las Vegas. It is such a cool spot. Since I can’t get to your store on San Antonio, it is my favorite book store.

  24. Please come to Canada! If you come to Windsor Ontario you can do Windsor and Detroit – in the same day if you wanted!!!!

  25. Yay hooray! Preordering one for me and one for my library. Please come to Northwest Arkansas. We have great indie bookstores! Pearls Books in Fayetteville and Two Friends Bookstore in Bentonville are lovely!

(YAY FOR LIBRARIES! And I am loving all of these bookshop recommendations. ~ Jenny)

  26. Finally a “self-help” book that might actually be helpful!!! I’ll try to get over having a hardback that doesn’t match the rest of my paperback JL collection. 😉

  27. Woohoo! I literally just got off the phone with my doctor about squirrel brain infestation and I’m so glad that I will have your sage like advice very very soon. Here in Milwaukee there’s an awesome bookstore called Boswell Books, and I’ve been to some other author talks at the Pabst theater and Riverside theater!

  28. Please. Come back to Denver. I’ll even have my BFcousin Jenni make you another amazing cross stitch. She doesn’t know about it yet, but it’s going to be wicked cool.

  29. I’m looking forward to your new book!!! Jenny, I’m frustrated and I’m worried about the future of our country. I have two children and won’t be having any grandchildren. But, I have nieces and nephews, my friends who have grandchildren, and an extreme desire that they have the same wonderful childhood and future that I had the opportunity to experience. It’s not just about the help we need to get through this, it’s also about gaining our strength to find our voice.

  30. Yay!
And if you’re looking for tour suggestions:
    Buffalo Street Books
    215 N. Cayuga St.
    Ithaca, NY14850

    Odyssey Bookstore
    115 W. Green St. Lower
    Ithaca, NY 14850

  31. I pre-ordered on kindle. Just before it’s out I’ll reread your other books! Excited

  32. Please come to Backwater Books in Ellicott City MD! Its a bookstore AND bibliopub. Its in the downtown of a beautiful historic city with lots of little shops and restaurants and things to do. Its also close to Baltimore and DC, which are both full of cool places and museums.

  33. So excited to see another book coming! San Diego is really nice in the fall, if you want to visit!

  34. Eeeeeeeeee! This looks amazing! Thanks for being AMAZING YOU! Please come to “This is a Bookstore” (yes – it’s really called that) in Kalamazoo, Michigan!!

  35. Come to Cleveland (Ohio), PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEASE!!!!! Why? Because Cleveland rocks, and so do you, so you’ll fit right in. We also have amazing cultural centers, including a museum with a whole bunch of taxidermied things, including Balto. This’ll be the perfect opportunity for my wife and I to fangirl/fanboy all over you. Wait, scratch that… crap, I’ve said too much. Bye! See you soon in Cleveland, maybe?

  36. Please consider Malaprop’s in beautiful Asheville, NC as we continue our recovery! You could also hit up Charlotte, two hours away. 🙂

  37. I’m in a very small town in southern British Columbia so I don’t think you’ll be swinging by here. It is very beautiful if you do decide western Canada is your jam. Congratulations on the new book! I look forward to reading it.

  38. So excited for another book! Please come back to the Midtown Scholar indy bookstore in Harrisburg, PA

(Omg, one of my favorites. I collect great bookstores in my head. ~ Jenny)

  39. Please come to Northport Books, it just opened! 127 Main Street, Northport NY!

  40. You should return to Quail Ridge Books in Raleigh. The last time you were here, a friend from college and I reconnected while we were waiting to get our books signed. Now we’re best friends. We probably wouldn’t have had that connection if we hadn’t waited for several hours for our turn. So thanks for having a signing, for being so popular that it took several hours of waiting, and giving us an initial something to bond over. If we start doing crime, we’re blaming you.

(Please let this be the first chapter of a crime mystery novel. ~ Jenny)

  41. Saint Louis would love to have you! Our county library does things with authors all the time!

  42. OMG! I’M SO EXCITED ABOUT THIS!! It sounds like EXACTLY what I (and so many of us) need, because a toolbox from somebody who actually DOES the work (and not just some clinician who TALKS about the work) is SO FREAKING VALUABLE!!! Plus, you know, you are funny & relatable & weird like us, so that makes it all super good.

Half Price Books in Dallas on Northwest Highway was where I met you before, and all your fans in Dallas would love to see you again! Whoo-hoo!

(That one was so much fun! They made me a paper-mache raccoon out of old books that I still have. ~ Jenny)

  43. Yay for a new Jenny book. But double yay for this particular one. It was you who first told me that brains lie to us. And that knowledge made so much difference. I can’t wait to read more from your voice on this topic. Thank you for being brutally transparent with us. It matters.

Also please come to Northern Virginia or anywhere within driving distance – I would love to see your tour!

  44. Hopefully my immigration will have gone through by then and I’ll be living in the city. If so, I will attend! EDINBURGH (the UK one). Congratulations on the book. Truly making lemonade out of lemons and sharing the pitcher. Thank you.

(I once got a parking ticket in Edinburgh. It was awesome. The city, I mean. Not the parking ticket. And now I’m craving haggis. ~ Jenny)

  45. I can’t wait!!! Will be waiting with bated breath in Canmore Alberta. Feel free to come up to the Canadian Rockies. We would love to have you here!!!

  46. Amazing! Wishing this was out now as i send my youngest off to college this week. Please consider Detroit to visit, we are a good time!

  47. I am crying!!! So happy. Broken came out around my birthday, just like this book will be! Perfect gift to me from me (and you!)

  48. Wild Geese Bookshop in Franklin, IN does a fabulous job with author events and I’d love to see you in Indianapolis!

  49. Definitely pre-ordering! Please come to Milwaukee! Boswell Books is a wonderful indie bookstore here that does cozy author events.

  50. Please come visit us in Naperville (Andersons Bookshop) again! Loved meeting you before and can’t wait for this book.

  51. Well done Jenny! I can’t wait. Try Browseabout books in Rehoboth beach Delaware.

  52. Please come to Tattered Cover in the Denver metro area! I would looooooooove to meet you finally!

  53. My eyes are seriously messed up. I thought it said erectile dysfunction, and I was thinking it would be an even better book than I was hoping… self help for me AND him! 🤦🏼‍♀️😂

(Noting this as a possibility for a bonus chapter. 🙂 ~ Jenny)

  54. I am so amazed and proud of you! We have a lovely little indie bookstore called “Queen Takes Book” in Columbia, MD and they have events at a great little event space by the lake where we go see ABBA and Billy Joel tribute bands and sing and dance and have cocktails but they transform it into a little brunchy space where they set up tables of books to sell (including Blind Date with a Book!) and I think it would be perfectly whelming (not over-) for you to visit!

  55. Can we preorder through Nowhere?

(Totally! And I think they’re even doing a little giveaway to celebrate it. 🙂 It’s on their website. ~ Jenny)

  56. Yip! A new book! Please consider Palm Springs for a visit. It is hotter than hell right now but spring is fab. We have a great independent bookstore ‘The Best Bookstore’ that packs them in for visits/readings. We really love our local authors and always welcome others!

  57. I am so so so excited to read your new book ❤️ please come to CT, MA, RI, NY VT or NH so I can come to see you – lots of good choices 😂

  58. Waiting for the signed options to come, I own all your books and every one is signed, so I can’t stop now!!😉

(I’m signing thousands of tip-ins now and they’ll be sent off to bookshops all over, so I suspect I’ll have more details in the coming months. 🙂 ~ Jenny)

  59. Have you ever considered that your brain is only reflecting what you’re feeding it? The genre of books you read are filled with anxiety, drama and despair. Try choosing a brain diet that reflects the world in which you want to live.

(Nah. Dark books give my brain a place to work off my anxiety with in a safe way. I can exorcise my anxiety on books about zombies and then I have less to work with in real life. Plus, all the dark books I read have some sort of lesson or inspiration there. There’s something to be said for the power of female rage or the importance of seeing the darkness so that you can find a way to bring light. But I do think that some people get a lot of endorphins from romance and happy comforting things so I think it just depends on what makes you happy. 🙂 ~ Jenny)

  60. Who hoo!! I live in Fort Collins, CO and im certain Old Firehouse Books would fill to the gills! I would also go to Denver to see you again. Thank you for your vulnerability and humor!! You are such a gift 💓

  61. The Bookery in Manchester, NH or Winni Books in Alton, NH. Both amazing independent bookstores don’t get the attention like some of the larger/established independent bookstores in our state. Plus, we don’t ever get anyone cool – if you’ll fit in!

  62. First, yay, you! A new book from you! You have no idea how much I need this. Second, in case you don’t do a book tour in my area, how can we get a signed copy?
Last but certainly not least, anywhere in Kentucky, southern Indiana, or the Nashville area would be awesome. There’s a really cool little indie bookstore called Displaced Pages in Owensboro, KY that I think would be a great fit for you and your fans ( people like me, for instance): A little different, but hanging in there. Either way, so crazy excited about this.

(I’ll be doing a book tour and signing books and also a ton of indie bookstores will be getting signed copies to sell. And of course Nowhere will have them too. 🙂 ~ Jenny)

  63. Tucson is full of quirky, unique, open-hearted people…if you haven’t been I think you’d love it. The Festival of Books is in late March or early April, but Antigone bookstore is here all the time and their store is our local Nowhere books. It would be so awesome to have you stop here. I’m preordering today and also either telling the library to order or making a note (I can’t remember if we can only request books that are already printed from our library). Go you!

  64. So excited, and seriously, I feel like I need this book right now. I’m going to share this post with my therapist as well. Just pre-ordered! Please come to Pittsburgh!!!

  65. So glad to hear of your new book! I can use tools like the ones you mention. Would you consider stopping in Denver, CO? You could appear at the Tattered Cover on Colfax Avenue, or the Tattered Cover in the Aspen Grove center, in Littleton, CO.

  66. This is the best news! Thank you and pretty please come to central Indiana??

  67. And just like that, I found an independent bookstore near my new place in Ontario (Canada) and got myself a preorder! 🙂

    (YAY! ~ Jenny)

  68. You keep me just above surface. Cant wait to my preorder to fly to Finland. Love you Jenny ❤️

  69. Yippee!! I can’t wait. I love all of your books. Please come somewhere near Toronto, Ontario. Canada 🇨🇦 loves you too!! Any Indigo book store or if you want little cool independent ones- A Different Drummer. (Differentdrummerbooks.ca)

  70. Please let us know if and when you do an audiobook version of this book. I have all your books in audiobook (I have difficulty reading with my eyeballs).

(I haven’t recorded it yet but I’m 99% sure there will be one. ~ Jenny)

  71. Hooray for a new book!
Main Point Books in Wayne PA has kept me (sort of) sane. We would love to have you! The Philly independent book crawl is coming up soon…. In all seriousness, take care of you and thank you for all you do.

  72. I’m so looking forward to this. I’ve really wanted a new book while understanding why you haven’t been in the head space to write. I can’t wait to read all of your tips for surviving a brain that isn’t always on your side.

  73. I’m so excited! Please please please come to Louisville, KY! We have a fantastic local bookstore named Carmichael’s where you would feel right at home!

  74. I love reading everything you write. Please come back to San Diego Ca. Warwicks, mysterious galaxy or Fahrenheit 451. See you in 2026. Yay!

  75. Just ordered a hard copy for a friend whom I’ve been encouraging to read your books. It arrives right around her birthday. And I ordered the ebook for myself. Jenny, you are amazing, inspiring, and prolific! I am so glad for humans like you in our world. THANK YOU!

  76. I’m so excited!! Copperfish Books is our local Indy Bookshop here in SW Florida!

  77. Congratulations, Jenny!! You are a beacon of light for us all. So proud of you for powering through. ❤️

  78. I want you to come to Portland, Oregon! If that seems like a good idea to you, of course. Powells is our awesome independent bookstore and I personally would love to wait in line there to see you. 🙂

  79. So exciting! You should absolutely try to come to Winnipeg, Manitoba(Canada)! McNally Robinson is a great place for reasons/ signings!

  80. There’s a decent sized indie bookstore in Iowa City called Prairie Lights Books and Cafe that does a lot of local events! They’re very liberal and queer friendly and enjoy offbeat things, along with the rest of the city. Iowa City is to Iowa what Austin is to Texas (i.e. the state’s likeable gay cousin who has unpopular leftist opinions at Thanksgiving). I bet they’d really enjoy having you!

Also, CONGRATS!!!!! I’m so excited for the new book!!! 🤩 I’m gonna preorder through my smaller, even-more-local indie bookstore once I get a chance 🥰

  81. I am so excited!! Please come to Savannah GA.
I will bring you the softest blankie and let you borrow my pittie Olivia as she is better than any weighted blanket. You can even stay at my house!! It is my sanctuary, just me and the doggos!! Between you and Brene Brown you have saved my sanity and my soul!!

  82. Please oh please come to St. Louis! We have plenty of weird shit to visit and the Novel Neighbor pairs with author tours all the time!

  83. Best news ever – Congrats! Can’t wait to read it 😄 Come to M. Judson Booksellers in Greenville, SC!

  84. OMG, I’m so excited!!!! And that cover is AWESOME! Looking forward to acquiring some new tools to manage my GAD, and laughing my ass off.

PLEASE come to SE Michigan!!!! Yes, we can be a bit chilly compared to Texas, but we also have the Great Lakes. And you can probably experience all four seasons in a few days. 😉

  85. Exciting news!! We have two excellent independent book stores here in Kalamazoo, MI: Kazoo Books (kazoobooks.com) and This Is A Book Store (bookbugkalamazoo.com) – please come visit either! Or both! 🙂

  86. Virginia….for the love of everything, VIRGINIA!!!!!! Or North Carolina at the very least. I will do all the things

  87. Congrats on (and thank you for) the new book! We’d love to see you in the northwest ‘burbs of Chicago. I love indie bookshops (and use them almost exclusively), but it’s hard to fit all your fans into just one without necessitating the coping mechanisms from your book (that we haven’t read yet). 😉 Maybe one of the indie bookshops out this way has/can create a partnership with a larger venue, like a library (mine is the fabulous Palatine Public Library) or restaurant/bar with an event room. I’ve visited Nowhere twice without meeting you, so I’m anxious to have the pleasure. 💙

  88. Recent transplant from Austin/New Braunfels to Frederick MD. So happy to see other Jenny fans here too. Come see us!

  89. [repeat comment—I wasn’t logged in the first time]

  90. Woo! Congrats on the new book! Please come to Jackson, Mississippi. We have one hyper trendy independent book store and a Barnes & Noble to choose from. Everyone tends to go to Oxford because Square Books is the place, but it’d be great to see Jackson get some love. Either way, I’ll come if you’re with a state’s radius and it doesn’t get me fired for missing work!

  91. Hear me out… Kansas! 🌾 And not just anyplace in Kansas. Lawrence, Kansas 💙❤️. (I mean, we are colloquially known as “Lawrence f**king Kansas” and are a progressive, queer-friendly college town with one of the best independent bookstores ever made (The Raven Bookstore), so it’s definitely a vibe.) 🌈 The Raven also happens to have the best two shop cats ever AND is just down the street from a great cat cafe (Espurresso Cat Cafe)😻. It would make my year or probably my whole decade to have you here in Lawrence and I swear I will buy you a latte at the cat cafe and then you can go down the street and shop for all the fun and ridiculous office and art supplies (pens, notebooks, etc), plus art and stickers and all cool things at Wonder Fair (who also has basically the coolest shop cats you’ve ever met, “Dave.”)
I have more to share to advertise the amazing virtues of Lawrence, Kansas, should you need more convincing. 😅 But I don’t want to oversell it 🤣

(Cat cafe, you say? ~ Jenny)

  92. Please come to DC — we need self-care and laughs more than ever.

Venue options include the MLK Public Library, Politics & Prose, Busboys & Poets, and maybe the Library of Congress (!).

  93. Please come back to Southern California! It’s been 10 years and we miss you.

  94. Eeeek, I’m so excited for you and me in that I can’t wait until your book is available! I’m so happy for you, and I left a message on Facebook, but I would love for you to come back to PA. You visited Midtown Scholar Bookstore in Harrisburg, PA and I loved it. We chatted for about 2 mins but I cherish those mins. I even brought my son, Jamie and never said a word about him as he was standing in line with me to see you, lol. He took our picture. He loves your stories, too, although he has no other choice because I have repeatedly played your books on Audible.
Ok, I will stop rambling and again I can’t wait!!!

  95. We dropped our only child off at college three hours away last weekend and I am a mess. Panic attacks, uncontrollable crying, can’t eat. Wish I had this right now. But preordered so it can get here soon! So excited for this new book! Love to you!

  96. Fantastic, Jenny! Love the cover. Shouting out my favorite indie bookstore – Village Well in Culver City, CA! Would love to see you there!!

  97. Preordered, thank you! I hope your tour brings you to AZ. I missed you at Changing Hands years ago because anxiety

  98. Please come to Wisconsin! There’s a smaller town called Eau Claire, we have some great spots!

  99. I’m so excited to read this!!! If you come to Canada Vancouver would be the best place to come!!

  100. Portland, OR is such a book-loving town that you should include it on your tour list!

  101. Madison, WI has several lovely small indie bookstores — please consider a visit here!

  102. Congratulations dear Jenny and thanks for sticking around! Come to Halifax, Nova Scotia and stay with a displaced New Yorker who will feed you lobster!!

  103. Oh my gosh! Come to Abilene and read at Seven and One books! It’s a super cute indie and we’d love to have you! (I don’t work there, I just buy a lot of books there.) And I’m so excited for another book!

  104. I will have to wait patiently for this book to come out. I still need to read the 9 library books I have out. The Bookies in Denver would be my first choice, but I have the feeling it would be too small for your devoted fans. So, the Tattered Cover would be great to have you sign books at. When I first saw the store “The Bookies”, I thought it was for off-track betting mainly because the place next door was just called “A Bar”. The Bookies are now in a place that is walking distance from my house (dangerous for my bank balance and any empty surface in my house that does not have a pile of books on it already)

  105. I would love if you came to Madison, Wi. Can’t afford to travel right now and I would love to meet you/come to a book signing.

And Madison is just awesome. For the record.

    Can’t wait for this book!

  106. Please don’t have a chapter like the sex one in Broken!!

(There’s a sex chapter in Broken? ~ Jenny)

  107. Chicago: Women and Children First bookstore!!
Lewisburg WV: The New Chapter bookstore

  108. My house in MA. We can talk about the book while in daytime PJs and being under multiple cats. But seriously, somewhere north of Boston. Like far outside the city so the city people can’t get to the tour.

  109. Fantastic news!
    Congratulations!
    I can’t wait!
    Hallelujah and hurray!

    Suggestions for CT

And just for your own enjoyment, if you have a spare couple of hours, the BookBarn used bookstore in several locations around town in Niantic, CT, multiple buildings of used books by genre theme per building, with resident cats, dogs, goats, guinea pigs and rabbits, it’s a book lovers and animal lovers heaven and if you ever saw it, you would never want to leave, or you would want to recreate it.
    Great fresh seafood restaurants nearby.

I hope you come to my home state and see our great shoreline communities book selling places along I-95 halfway between NYC and Boston.
You’ll feel very much less anxious in small independant bookstores that are used to handling large book signing crowds, and lots of people who are very chill about meeting celebrities (we have a lot of them here.)

  110. Why do I not have “daytime pajamas”?
And how may give out copies do I have to buy to get a bulk discount? Everyone I know needs to read this.

  111. Charlotte or Winston-Salem would be PERFECT for you! Or, if you want to do more small town, Statesville, Davidson, and Mooresville, NC all have great little independent shops. I’m so excited for this!

  112. Come to Hawai’i, specifically O’ahu… No one comes here and it’s sad because Hawai’i is amazing. Check out the local bookstore in Kailua called Bookends. 🤞

  113. This is the best news I have had in a while and just in time for my birthday celebration this weekend! Thank you for continuing to write and share who you are. You are always a bright spot in my day! I’ve curled up with your books on so many occasions and can’t wait to do so with this one. A Room of One’s Own is a lovely bookstore to visit in Madison, WI! But I am taking this as a sign to travel to see you on tour! Sending all the good vibes 😎

  114. Congratulations, and thank you for your generosity! This is such a thoughtful thing to do – your other books have been great. I’m sure you’ve saved lives you’ll never even hear about, and this will save more.
Would you please think about coming to New Mexico? Any place in the state – Albuquerque metro area is central and has about half the state’s total population, Santa Fe is great, and Las Cruces is a nice friendly small city too. Here in ABQ there are several great indy bookstores – if it were me I’d go to Page One Books, Bookworks, and/or Books on the Bosque.
If you do come to NM, it would be my honor to buy you lunch or dinner at whatever restaurant you like. As for other things to do, in Albuquerque there’s the tramway to the top of the Sandia Mountains on the east edge of town (ABQ is a mile above sea level, and the Crest is about two miles.) My tortoiseshell cat Bolt would like to meet you, too.
Regardless, thanks again, and having a brain squirrel beats having a brain worm any day.

  115. I ordered Broken when it came out and asked you to write something funny when you signed. You didn’t disappoint and would love it if you could do the same thing this time.

  116. Something to look forward to! Thank you, I needed that more than you know.

  117. Cannot wait for the new book and wish it would be out by Christmas so I could gift several copies! Please add Talking Animals bookstore in Grapevine Texas to your itinerary. It’s a quick hop from DFW airport and they bring in some incredible authors. You would fit right in with this inclusive, eclectic, fun loving, woman -owned treasure of a bookstore! They are moving into a larger space before Christmas so they can host more events on site, and I think it would be a perfect fit for you.

  118. Can’t wait to read it. I’m sure I’ll find plenty I relate to, as I have in all your other wonderful books. ❤️
I would love it if your tour included Righton Books on Saint Simons Island, Georgia. It’s a terrific, privately owned bookstore by the nicest people you could hope to meet.

  119. Are location suggestions a real thing? We would love to host you in Fredericton New Brunswick on the east coast of Canada. We promise it will be awkward and cozy. We are a tiny city with voracious readers and many huge Blogess fans! Xoxo

  120. First, there is entirely too much muppet flailing that is happening in my heart right now upon reading such stupendous news!!

Secondly, may I suggest you stop on your book tour somewhere in Orange County, CA? Not only would that be the best thing ever (for OC fans of yours like me) but the local beaches are lovely (and not crowded) to visit during fall or winter (I’m assuming that winter is when you’re touring due to the book release date?). I’m not great with seasons and even worse when it comes to math 🥴 😂

It’s not tourist season in the winter nor the fall so you can easily find a parking spot, where you can then take a seat on a bench that faces the sea, preferably with a hot chocolate in hand. Sure it would be cold and possibly a bit rainy, but I adore the cold myself and bundle up accordingly.

Anywhere in Laguna Beach is my favorite, but that’s just me! If you come to LB during the winter, you also may want to check out the local art scene including The Sawdust Art and Craft festival-they do a winter themed version of the festival every year after summer ends. It’s awesome! 😊https://sawdustartfestival.org/

  121. 👍👍👍 YES!!!
It’s out of the way, but we would love to see you at Snowbound Books in Marquette, Michigan! 💚 Congratulations!

  122. I’m not sure our local independent, Fables and Froth, which is a romantasy bookstore, would be interested, but if so I bet I could fill it :).

If you need to be in a bigger population centre to make it work then I suggest Avid Reader in Brisbane (Australia). I’ll drop anything but a chaplaincy shift to drive four hours to see you..

  123. You should come to Bookmine in Napa, CA. It’s an independent woman owned bookstore. Or Tally Ho Books on Piedmont Avenue in Oakland, CA because my niece co-owns that bookstore so it’s a woman & queer owned books store.

  124. YAY!!!! A new book to look forward to! Congratulations on that! <3 I'm so excited, I don't know how I am going to wait that long. Congratualtions Jenny! *HUGS*

  125. OMG I needed this today – almost made me cry! Have you ever considered coming to Canada? (specifically Alberta)

  126. Omg, come to Riverby Books in Fredericksburg, VA! You will feel right at home in its quirky appeal. The website doesn’t do it justice — from weird little cubbys to a whiteboard ever-changing manifesto in the window, it’s just awesome. The city is pretty cool, too.

    https://www.riverbybooks.com/about

So excited for the new book!

  127. Please come to Fort Collins, Colorado. I am extremely depressed, and your books have always brought me comfort, since Let’s Pretend this Never Happened. I have had the pleasure of meeting you once, on your You Are Here tour, in San Diego at Warwicks. Here in Fort Collins we have the amazing non-profit bookstore Peleandra, which even has a reader in residence program and supports local art. They partner and share space with Wolverine Farm Publick House and are absolutely amazing, with a great book selection and local events, as well as an incredible space.

I can’t wait to read your new book. It gives me something to look forward to!

Peleandra Bookshop, Fort Collins, CO. 🩷

    https://www.perelandrabooks.com/

  128. Thank you for writing a book for me and publishing it so others can read it. lol I. Can. Not. Wait. And please come to central Texas. I live in the middle of nowhere, and not the amazing bookstore, but I would drive to see you.

  129. I recommend touring at either/both Dog Eared Books in Ames, Iowa or apply to be one of the Avid author talks at the Des Moines public library.

  130. Probably a bit far but if you wanted to come to Hamilton, New Zealand, that would make my whole year ❤️ excited for the new book!!!!

  131. I’m so excited to hear you have made yet another book! I love that you continue to share yourself (in all forms) with the world around you! If you toured anywhere here in CT, I would be there w/o question! 🙂

  132. Come to Omaha! We are actually a really fun place with the nicest people!

P.S. the “tool” I’ve often used I learned from you. The phrase “depression lies” has saved my life multiple times. Thank you!

    (I’m so glad you’re here. ~ Jenny)

  133. Come to Tokyo! Or Yokohama. Anywhere in mainland Japan? I know it’s a huge ask and I never expect anyone to actually do it, but since Victor seems to come to Japan sometimes and you’ve been here once (Right? My memory is terrible.) maybe it’s actually possible. We’re stationed at Yokosuka, but I would make a trip of it and I bet I could bring a bus full of military spouses with me.

  134. Yay!! New book and I would trust your helping hints more than some MD’s facts. Salem Oregon has several indie bookshops that would love to have you.

  135. Thank God for hyphens because for a minute there I thought Squirrelly Jackson was typing this from inside your brain! 😜 Perfect book, we all need this right about now. Can’t wait! ❤️

  136. Can’t wait Jenny!

Suggestions on where to go? Come to my house, I don’t like leaving it much either.

  137. OH OH OH NEW BOOK OH OH OH!!!!! *ahem* Omg PLEEEEEASE come to San Diego on your book tour again!! I got to meet you there when you toured for You Are Here, I’d love to see you again!
I’m currently majorly struggling with a lot of that level of depression where you *know* it’s getting worse but it’s not *too* horrible yet but the usual coping methods aren’t working but there aren’t Big Red Flags yet? Yunno? Seeing psych dr Friday, might need to increase med. … All this to say, I NEEDED this good news!!!

  138. Yay!!! This is so great! Powell’s is the obvious choice for Portland, but if you were willing to make another stop (maybe just a signing?) at Spoke & Word, the wonderful little indie in Milwaukie, Oregon— I think that would be wonderful. Spoke & Word has become the heart of our little downtown, and does a tremendous amount of work to network and support their fellow independent business owners.

  139. I love this so much. And I can’t wait to read it. I may be in a similar looking hodge-podge, patched together raft. Definitely not a boat. A boat would be too efficient and well built.

  140. I can’t wait! I love how you write and how you share your life with your readers. I have suffered a ton of debilitating depression and anxiety this past year due to some stuff in my life. Blah blah insert some story about woe is me. I don’t want to say much; honestly I am alright now. I have a good group of folk to support me and build me up. I will buy your new book and see you at one of your signings. I don’t have extra money technically, but I would stand on the street corner and beg for money to get your book. Sign would say: have a job making at least some amt of $; have a car that aint broke today; have a home I can’t affort but aint been kicked outta yet; DON’T have the newest Jenny Lawson book. Help. Or, I might get lucky and get into a new and better paying job by then. I’ll buy 2 copies and donate one to another dork like me who maybe does not yet know he/she needs it.

  141. So excited you’re writing another book and can’t wait to have another book signed by you! Here is hoping you’re up near the Northwest. There are some great college towns up here…Go Vandals!

  142. I am a therapist and am soooooo excited for 1) another Jenny book to fill my own battered soul and 2) a book I can recommend to clients who deal with so many of these things!

Please come to Bookshop Santa Cruz so I can be a weird awkward fan. Please please please.

  143. As I sit here under two cats myself I was just thinking I should revisit some of the tools I have used. But then realized I had forgotten some, which is a good thing because it means I haven’t used them in a while but seeing as I was thinking about them probably I do need to use them and it would be really nice to have a refresher that wasn’t a PHP. And better still if it made me laugh, which I’m certain this book will. This is a long way of saying “Please come to Green Apple Books in San Francisco!!”

  144. I’m thrilled that you have another book coming out! Please consider coming to Mysterious Galaxy in San Diego, CA. It has been independently owned for over 30 years now. When the original owner was ready to retire, former customers bought the business (and kept all employees) and plan to pass the business to their children and make the store multigenerational. Also, they are staunch LGBTQ+ supporters and are currently raising money for our local NPR station. In short they are awesome and would make you feel so welcome.

  145. Preorder done! I can’t wait to get my hands on this book. Please come to Hershey, PA! I’ll provide the chocolate!

  146. Please come to Cincinnati! Bike Trail Books in Loveland is a lovely local place that is woman owned and does great things for the community including offering book fairs for local schools! (Also they are right down the road from me). Can’t wait to read the new book!

  147. Please come to Portland Oregon!!! Our favorite bumper sticker here is “ keep Portland weird”. Locally owned Powells is our mother ship book store. Congrats on your new book!!👏👏

  148. I read (aka devour) your words because of how deeply they resonate. I cry until I laugh tears, and every time I think- I am proud of you for speaking so candidly about this freaking rollercoaster we’re on. You remind us we’re not alone, despite how raw the chaos makes us feel. Barn Owl Books in McCall, Idaho would be a welcoming space for you to consider. A small beautiful mountain town with an incredible new library to share as well. Thank you for sharing yourself, I hope you feel the love and appreciation we hold for you!

  149. I’m hoping for somewhere in CT but will make the trek into NYC if you stop there instead. Can’t wait to add this new book to my Jenny collection.

  150. If you could visit the FL Panhandle, I would absolutely crawl out from under my dog and blankets to come visit your tour!!!

  151. You should absolutely come to Hill’s Bookstore in Hollister, CA! Your agent will hate it because it’s tiny and not a lot of people in our small town, but you’ll love it because it’s tiny and not a lot of people in our small town!

  152. Please come to RI or southeast Massachusetts! An Unlikely Story is a wonderful independent bookstore…

  153. Third Place Books in Lake Forest Park (near Seattle) is a great local shop! Would love to see you there! But regardless, if you come to Seattle at all, I will be there. Very much yay and congrats on the new book!

  154. Yay! Please consider the Twin Cities! Magers & Quinn is a lovely, huge bookstore in Minneapolis; and Next Chapter in Saint Paul is adjacent to the Macalaster College campus. You also could give a reading at the Fitzgerald Theatre in Saint Paul, or maybe an interview with Kerry Miller on Minnesota Public Radio. Lots to do! Come in May, June, or through the autumn, our prettiest months 😊

  155. Um, could we expound for a moment on the most important item in this post? “Daytime pajamas” – what are they? Where do I get some? Why have I never heard of this before? At what age is it ok to start unironically wearing turbans and muumuus a la Mrs. Roper? (asking for a friend)

Oh, and congrats on that whole little book thing. I’m sure a few people will read it. 🙂

  156. Please come to central Connecticut. No one comes here. We’re close to Boston & New York on the map, but it’s its own separate place!

    Literary treats for you–

In Hartford, Mark Twain’s house is right next door to Harriet Beecher Stowe’s house. Yep, they could walk next door and borrow a cup of sugar or exchange witty reported.

Just a town to the south Wethersfield is the setting for”The Witch of Blackbird Pond” and the author based the houses on the surviving Buttolph-Williams House. There is a millions of jokes to be made just about the name of that house. The house is linked with other houses as the Webb Deane Stevens Museum. One of the other houses is where George Washington and le Comte de Rochambeau planned the final battle of the Revolutionary War.

Hartford is also where Wallace Stevens wrote poetry while walking to his insurance company.

Come farther south to Glastonbury and visit the library featured in One for the Murphys. There’s an indie bookstore right across the street…. hint hint.

  157. Hang on a minute, why is this tagged as “Random crap” when it’s the best news of the year??
Obligatory “please come to London” comment too, because I’d love to go and see you.
    Congratulations, this is fantastic!

  158. So excited! Please come to San Diego, Verbatim Books or Mysterious Galaxy are great choices

  159. I cannot wait to get my hands on my copy! I hope you will consider making a stop at Talking Animals Bookstore in downtown Grapevine, Texas, right next-door to DFW airport. They are a woman owned, inclusive, fabulous, indie bookstore run by amazing people and you would love their vibe.

  160. Please come to Charlotte! Please Please please! It’s my dream to meet you! My most favorite shirt is the Nowhere negative reviews shirt. I wear it a lot!

  161. I really don’t know what I’m talking about when it comes to book tours, but there’s a lovely independent book store here in Durham, NC called The Regulator on 9th Street.

  162. Preordered from Brazos Bookstore in Houston. Come on down and see us again!

  163. So excited for a new book!! Would love if you came back to Harrisburg – we had so much fun seeing you there a couple years ago!

  164. I am so excited! If you get anywhere even remotely close to Baltimore I’m going to come see you

  165. White Oak Books in Vancouver, Washington. Yes, Powell’s is great, but they get all the cool stuff. Maybe some love for across the river?

  166. Oh my gosh, Jenny! Thank you so much. Seeing this may have actually just saved my life. I fell fast and hard into a deep depression this week and have been struggling. I think I may have just found that glimmer of hope to hold onto that cracks everything else open! Can’t wait!!!

  167. OH HAPPY, HAPPY DAY! Jenny has come out with a new book! My heart leapt up with a joyous thrill when you said in your post that you wrote another book! I’m so looking forward to it!

Did you ever travel to Canada during any of your book-signing tours?
How about coming to the Indigo book store in the Eaton’s Centre in Toronto?
    That’s my suggestion. 🙂

    Warm Wishes,
    Heather ~ Chrysalis

  168. Please come to Connecticut. We are always left out. Authors go to Boston & NY, but skip us. I love you and your works. Can’t wait to get my hands on your new book.

  169. It’s me again…I just visited your Nowhere website to see about pre-ordering a copy, but I didn’t see an option to have the book personalized…
Will be you offering the option to personalize the book at a later date?

    CONGRATULATIONS! I love your books!

    Love, Heather
    (love, in a platonic way)

  170. Please please PLEASE come to LFK Lawrence, KS where the public library partners with the local indie bookstore, The Raven, to do author visits in the old historic theatre, Liberty Hall. You’d love it!

  171. I can’t wait for your new book! Magic City Books in Tulsa, OK would be a great venue to see you!

  172. Can you come to They Lynx in Gainesville, Florida? It’s Lauren Groff’s indie bookstore that specializes in banned books and BIPOC and LGBTQ+ authors!

  173. all I wanted was for some Brazilian publisher to get in touch for an official translated version into Portuguese :'(

  174. I’m super excited about your book–thanks for writing it! If your journey ever takes you to Wisconsin–specifically, the Eau Claire part of Wisconsin–Dotter’s Books is a fabulous woman-owned indie bookshop that would be a great fit for your work. Whether or not you make it in person to my neck of the woods, though, I’m excited that your words will make it here!

  175. If you made your way to Portland, Oregon, you would most likely end up at our amazing independent (huge) bookstore, Powell’s. And I love that store. But if you would consider a much smaller place, we have a long time independent bookstore here called Annie Blooms Books. They do readings there and it would be very much a place I think you personally would enjoy. Small, friendly, community driven. And they could probably use an event like yours more than Powell’s. My husband has done a couple readings there for his much less known books than yours are, and they were still so helpful and nice and accommodating. Just a thought.
    And yay for cats.

  176. Another vote for Snail on the Wall in Huntsville, Alabama please please please please pretty please!

  177. Yay! Congratulations on the new book! Can’t wait to read it.

  178. Oh my gosh I am so stinkin’ excited for your new book!! This is kind of similar to the book I want to write – my helpful hints of dealing with bipolar disorder and SA. It gives me hope that maybe I could even be published someday! (that would be a DREAM!). I’d LOVE for you to visit Forever Books in St. Joseph, Michigan – but even Grand Rapids or Chicago would be close enough that I would be able to make the trip!

  179. Jenny, Congratulations on putting out another much-needed (by us) book, even while dealing with more than the average person could ever deal with! You’re an inspiration. If ever you decide to come to the Nor. Calif. coast, we have a thriving indie bookstore and a public library that has a lot of author talks/signings and does a great job of promoting them throughout the whole county. Half Moon Bay may be small but we support writers and other artists…and Santa Cruz is an hour away. I’d be happy to make connections for you here.

  180. Please come back to Boswell Books in Milwaukee! I promise to bake you something even better than Rory cupcakes!

  181. Thank you for writing this oh-so-relatable book; I cannot wait to read it. Book tour stop suggestions, both in Maryland: The Curious Iguana in Frederick or Queen Takes Book in Columbia.

  182. Bookmarks is our independent bookstore here in Winston-Salem, NC! They hold an annual book festival each fall but I’m sure they have authors visit all the time outside of that.
    Please come!

  183. Please please come to Michigan!! Literati Bookstore in Ann Arbor Michigan would be a perfect place!
