This isn’t a real post but if I don’t write it down I’ll forget to mention it.
So first off, I’m doing a virtual hang-out for Richland Library on Friday night and you can come and it’s free and you don’t have to wear pants. YAY FOR NO PANTS. Maybe I’ll read a little bit from my next book. WHO KNOWS. I AM BAD AT PLANNING. Click here to reserve a spot.
Secondly, you know how you asked me if we could make a Nowhere Bookshop hoodie and I was like, “Maybe?” because I want one too but also that sounds like a lot of work but then this company named Bonfire started helping indie bookstores by doing campaigns to help them raise money and we’re totally doing it. Mostly so that I can buy my own hoodie with our passport stamp. (I bought the dark heather one for myself because cat fur doesn’t show up on it. I also bought it in 2X because maybe the hand pouch will be big enough to put Hunter S. Thomcat in because I think he would really love that. Victor disagrees.)

If you want one just click here. They have hoodies, adult shirts and youth shirts in four different colors. If you don’t want one that is totally okay.
Third, today is Dorothy Barker’s birthday!
To celebrate you should do something nice for yourself. Or for your dog. Or cat. Or random pigeon. There are not wrong answers.
Happy barkday, Dorothy Barker! May you have pizza, dog biscuits, hot dogs, and whatever else you like to eat. (I am just assuming you like those things based on what basically every other dog likes…)
Yay!! Happy Birthday Dorothy Barker!!! Haley looks so awesome in blue hair, and not everyone can pull that off but she toes did. She’s just adorable!! You all are! Stay safe Jenny!!
I would like to reserve my spot for the virtual event. Unless I missed it, you did not tell us what day/time it is. Maybe if I clicked on reserve it might tell me.
Who’s a good girl? Happy, happy birthday to Dorothy Barker! May you get all the squeaky toys and delicious doggie treats to help celebrate your special day. Be sure to share with your family! 🙂
Omg, can’t wait to get my hoody! Dorothy Barker, you remain the most amazing girl. So glad you’re still gracing us all with your presence.
Happy birthday Dorothy Barker I hope all your doggies dreams come true today.
*Many* happy returns of the day to Ms. Barker! May she be healthy and happy for eons to come. You, too, Jenny.
Perhaps you could read this to the birthday girl:
Verse For A Certain Dog
Poem by Dorothy Parker
Such glorious faith as fills your limpid eyes,
Dear little friend of mine, I never knew.
All-innocent are you, and yet all-wise.
(For Heaven’s sake, stop worrying that shoe!)
You look about, and all you see is fair;
This mighty globe was made for you alone.
Of all the thunderous ages, you’re the heir.
(Get off the pillow with that dirty bone!)
A skeptic world you face with steady gaze;
High in young pride you hold your noble head,
Gayly you meet the rush of roaring days.
(Must you eat puppy biscuit on the bed?)
Lancelike your courage, gleaming swift and strong,
Yours the white rapture of a winged soul,
Yours is a spirit like a Mayday song.
(God help you, if you break the goldfish bowl!)
“Whatever is, is good” – your gracious creed.
You wear your joy of living like a crown.
Love lights your simplest act, your every deed.
(Drop it, I tell you- put that kitten down!)
You are God’s kindliest gift of all – a friend.
Your shining loyalty unflecked by doubt,
You ask but leave to follow to the end.
(Couldn’t you wait until I took you out?)

Happy Birthday Dorothy Barker!!!!! I shall give my cats extra belly rubs in your honor 😊
Apologies if this message is a duplicate. The last one I tried to send disappeared.
*Many* happy returns of the day to Ms. Barkers. May she and her family enjoys eons of good health and happiness.
I thought perhaps, Jenny, that your Dorothy might like to hear this poem from the original Dorothy (not the Kansas-Oz one. The other):

Happiest of birthdays, Dorothy Barker!
From one Dorothy to another, happy birthday! I shared my rotisserie chicken with my CherryBerry in your honor.
Happy Birthday to Dorothy Barker! And thank you for the hoodie option!! 🙂
I love all of this, and I would love to hang out with you, but I have a standing Friday night appointment to drink wine and watch a bad disaster movie with my mom (I FaceTime call her & we start watching at the same time, so we can react to things like bad CGI and questionable acting). But I also suspect that’s a plan you’d support anyway. HBD to Dorothy!
What timezone is the event in? It just says 7:00, not which 7:00.
I continue to be sad that fatties like me can’t wear a Nowhere Bookshop tee shirt. Only offering a 2X? Cue the sad trombone and the frowning (I need a 5X please) panda.
(We let Bonfire know that we like bigger sizes too. I think they’re looking into it in the future. And hopefully more styles. 🙂 ~ Jenny)
Got my hoodie coming!! Thanks so much and Happy Birthday Dorothy Barker!!!
I’m so psyched! I live in Illinois and I even signed up for a library card for $65! Worth it to see/hear Jenny, AND I can borrow virtually from yet another library. Win-win. Seats are going FAST!!!
Cara, Texas is Central Standard Time (CST)
Hey that’s my old library! Love it so much. And SC is in Eastern time zone…
There were 800 slots for Jenny’s talk on Friday, and as of 3:30 pm CST today, Monday, there were about 200 left.
Yay! See you Friday!
My bad! Since Jenny lives in Texas I assumed that the library was there. Silly me. Virtual. It IS in South Carolina and it IS EST. My bad!!
Wow, great hoodie, but with hot flashes I need a full zip hoodie so I can air out when one comes on strong. And plus sizes please? Some of us are tall and/or wide Amazonian warrior princesses and Herculean warriors who need room for our massive shoulders and whatever else….or just to pull up our legs and pull in our arms and curl up into a snug little ball on the couch inside our roomy hoodies.
Happy Birthday Dorothy Barker, May you live long and happy with lots of squirrels to chase and dog biscuits to make you happy.
That’s so weird, my post just disappeared into thin air instead of posting on your comments page….
Oh my gosh, yes!!! That’s my local library – of COURSE I’ll be there!! Can you sign my books too?! 😉
(If it wasn’t virtual I would sign all of your books. 🙂 ~ Jenny)
Happy Birthday Dorothy Barker. To celebrate I’m going to buy myself a hoodie 🎂 ❤️
Happy Birthday to Dorothy Parker! Dog birthday parties are so much fun. I hope you have a great day, with plenty of walks with lots of sniffing, squirrels to chase, and as many dog treats as your little heart desires.
Happy Happy B-day Dorothy Barker…sweet sweet girl!!
And LOVE Hailey’s blue hair…to match her leggings 🙂
I may be having a day: I somehow misread and thought “WHO KNOWS. I AM BAD AT PLANNING.” was the title of the next book, even though I already knew it was not. I think I need a nap. And also one of those gray hoodies…
The Happiest of Birthdays to you Miss Dorothy Barker
Love the hoodie but just a hint for next time…I am one of those weirdos that hate the hood part. Please consider just a sweatshirt. I find the hoods to be too confining AND they get caught on things…at least on me they do! ♥
Would like to attend Friday’s event – but I’m Canadian & have a postal code not a zip code. Is there a way for me to register? HUGE fan!!!
(Hmm. Can you fake an address? ~ Jenny)
Happy birthday miss barker. You share your birthday with two of my favorite friends. Nov 2ed is when all the best people/dogs are born
Omg that picture of the birthday girl is just awesome! Happy Birthday Dorothy Barker! (Also, uh, *just* realized your new book is already available for pre-order how the heck did I miss that omg I finally have an answer to the ‘what do you want for Christmas?’ question!)
I doubt that I will ever be able to visit your bookstore in person, but wanted to support you and your business!
Was do excited to here about your new book. Sad because I am not in the USA, so I can’t register. 😢
Happy birthday, Dorothy Barker!! WOOT! I look forward to COVID-free travel days as your bookstore is on my get to see eventually when life permits us to again list. xo
I didn’t know Richland Library. Looks like they are in South Carolina rather than San Antonio as I first thought. So the event is at 7pm Eastern Time, right?
I guess I can’t delete my comment above now but I saw someone said it is Eastern Time.
I can’t register for the hangout – it doesn’t recognise my (UK style) phone number or post code. 🙁
Happy Birthday Dorthy!!! (Also what brand is the hoodie? Hanes, Gildan? I need to know so I know what size to order Please and Thank you!).
Happy birthday to Dorothy Parker! Be careful with Bonfire – first run is great…2nd or 3rd not so much. Little Miss Maine Coon sends purrs.
Is it 7pmCST?
Wow! I had no idea I shared a birthday with an internet celebrity, how cool is that?!?!
I must have missed the pre-order post. I saw it on the Bookshop website. You should have it permanently posted above. Yesterday, in my funk about thinking about the election, it was pure joy to be able to register for Friday, buy a sweatshirt, and pre-order the book.
It’s saying my phone number is invalid and won’t let me register….
Wish I could be there Friday!
They filled up and then added 100 more seats to Jenny’s virtual talk.
But I just bought a Salem Witches Union hoodie to wear while I teach the Crucible. Oh okay. Happy Birthday Dorothy https://possumscatsthingsgnawingatme.wordpress.com/2020/10/26/im-a-fun-guy-when-the-coolness-outweighs-the-grossness/
Happy Birthday Dorothy!!
Here’s to healthy pets being ridiculous as long as possible! In honor of that I am going to our local shelter this weekend to look for a new best friend/ sparring partner for my 11 year old cat Hobbes who misses his late 16 year old mate Miette (okay yes, we all miss her and need that new friend).
I’m so excited to come virtually to your book talk. Someday I hope the library I work at in Ohio gets someone in as cool as you to do a discussion. ❤️
Reserved my spot for Friday –YAY!!!!!!!.
I’m sad Bonfire is only offering the hoodie for 14 more days, though. I can’t afford one at the moment; will they offer it again in the near future (I HOPE!)?
Hopefully the hoodie will come back soon so i can buy one!
Looks like you sold it out Jenny! Have a fabulous time. I would have loved to drink wine slushies, while practice saying Madam Vice President with you.
Want a hoodie, but need a zip up, Maybe all get a T. Planning to do some of my non local xmas shopping with you guys. All my local shopping goes to the great Marcus books.
I registered on Monday, and got email confirmation that I was registered for the event. The website state that an email with the link would be forthcoming, but I still haven’t received any link. 🙁
Yeah all I could hear was a clunking sound and I paid $65 to join the library. Frustrated.
What a great hang out! I can’t get over how your laugh sounds exactly like Hailey’s. Thanks for spending your Friday night with your tribe and I hope you get some good rest.
I loved being able to Hang out with you. It was a great hour and half. Thank you.
It was a great hang out. Thank you for a wonderful time ! I am looking forward to reading your new book.
I am so sad. I have been looking forward to this all day. I got everyone in my family busy doing something else, then got on my computer to log on. Meeting expired. Try again, meeting expired. Check the time, realize I’m on the west coast and I missed it by 3 hours. So, I just checked out the Let’s Pretend This Never Happened audiobook from my local library and am going to go to my room to listen. Sounds like you all had fun!!
(I’m pretty sure it’ll be on the Richland Library youtube page soon so you can watch and it’s like you were there. 🙂 ~ Jenny)
Like Maura, I, too, ran into issues with time zones. When I registered it didn’t make it clear what time zone it was in (didn’t scroll down to see where the library was), so when I got my email with the link, only then did it say EST and I realized I’d have to miss the first 45 minutes.
But…SHOUT OUT to having an ASL interpreter for anyone Deaf/HH watching! (Thank you Richland library for being inclusive!) I happen to be a nationally certified interpreter, and I can work remotely, and I know your work and the names you reference, so I have the background! I’d love to interpret for you some day!!
sorry im late to the party. Happy Birthday, Dorothy Barker. And may there be many more…
