Today is my birthday and I was going to write something about getting older but then I decided that I think I’d rather just go read a book so that is exactly what I’m going to do and if you would like to get me a birthday present then my request is that you do something lovely for yourself today. Go read or sit outside or hug a friend or binge watch Succession or knit your cats hats or whatever sounds amazing to you.

Happy birthday. We all win.

  3. Happy birthday! I’m out of work early and camped on my couch ignoring my chores, reading books I’ve stockpiled, making notes and plans and having a weep every now and again to help my brain chemistry balance out.

I wanted to tell you about something neat – so I like supporting Nowhere, and I love books, so I’ve been a member of the fantastic strangelings book club for years (nowhere’s been open years!) but I’m a slooooow reader. So these gorgeous, amazing books have been stacking up. So for Christmas I brought three bags of books on a road trip to my “kids” and pulled them out Christmas afternoon. It was so fun to see everyone dive in and start reading and sorting into piles of which would go home with who(m?). Thank you, and happy birthday!

  39. Just wanted to let you know that I so miss the Garfield Christmas Miracle in its original format. Who cares if someone gets a few extra things? I don’t. I know several mothers whose children went without and kind of the last thing they wanted was a stuffed animal. They get filthy, they are easy to find (even $ store has them), and moms hate dragging them around. I wish we’d done clothes, toys, puzzles and games. I know people complained on the OTHER side of this equation, but here’s a vote for the original!!!

My long-distance boyfriend has been sick since just before christmas with a nasty cold, and is still sick, so we’ve missed seeing each other then and now (and cripes I’m 54 can’t we come up with something better than “boyfriend??”). But a bunch of my online friends sent me a bunch of games I’ve been wanting, and a good friend that lives locally treated me to a take-out hibachi steak dinner! I’m super thankful!
