I’m typing this with my tongue

I’m sending you this post to remind you to get your covid and flu shot if you can because I just had mine. It feels like both of my arms are string cheese filled with glass, but still worth it. I went yesterday and Victor had his appointment right after mine so when I went in with the pharmacist he was like, “I’ll just come in too and you can do us both at the same time” but he couldn’t roll his sleeves up enough so the pharmacist made him take off his shirt and Victor winked at me as he got topless and I was like, “This is the weirdest vaccination ever” and Victor said, “YOU JUST GOT FREE TWO TICKETS TO THE GUN SHOW, LADY” and then the pharmacist was like, “Wait…you guys are together, right?” and I said, “I’ve never seen this man before in my life” and the pharmacist looked a little pale so assured him that we’d been married for decades and he looked very relieved but also still slightly baffled, which was fair.

I was going to take a picture of me getting my shot but I forgot, so instead here’s a picture from my substack today that I didn’t entirely finish because my arms hurt too much to draw.

  1. I got my shots a few weeks ago and they kicked my butt – still, totally worth it!

  2. Whisper a prayer to Saint Nancy Hapes and light a candle. ❤️ Feel better, Jenny. You’re a treasure.

  3. I got both last Friday, and it made me feel icky for a few days. My husband went with me to get his, and and also had to remove his arm. His nips were flappin’ in the wind 😂

  4. I always get mine a week or so apart. The first year I had them both at the same time and was down sick for 2 days. Now I do one at a time and feel fine.

(I was going to get the shingles one at the same time and he was like, “Oh, no…you don’t want to do that.” But the flu and covid together are pretty okay for me. ~ Jenny)

  5. Weird question, but, did you get both of your shots in the same arm?

(Nope. The pharmacist said the new practice is one in each. ~ Jenny)

  6. Question, so is this new Covid shot worse than the last? The last couple I’ve had haven’t affected me at all. I assumed my Knight Supressing drugs were the reason. No active immune system to overreact. Thoughts? Gonna get mine next week – need to time it out with methotrexate and remicade.

(For me this one feels the same as the others. I’m always achey the next day and my arm always hurts for two days. ~ Jenny)

  7. I just had COVID in August so I get to wait a few extra months to get mine. yay? But for sure I’ll be getting my flu shot soon. Hope your arms recoup quickly.

  8. I can *totally* see me and l my wife in that interaction with the pharmacist. ♥️♥️♥️

  9. I just finished a course of a med, so waiting to get the Covid shot and the flu shot, timed out not all at once. I’m a wuss when it comes to chemicals as is without mixing them.

  10. Huh, I got both in the same arm at the same time. Little tender the next day but otherwise no biggie.

  11. Got mine on Sunday and I still feel like something an elephant sneezed out. Still way better than getting either one.

  12. I feel you, I had flu and a tetanus booster and then the next day I had COVID. I had all the aches. On the up side, it was the least worst tetanus I’ve ever had. I hope you and your noodly appendages feel better.

  13. I had a sore arm for a couple of days, but I gotta say – that art is amazing!!

  14. Get RSV, too!
I would like to suggest to everyone who gets flu and COVID vaccinations to also consider getting the RSV vaccination. My daughter nearly died at two weeks old of Respiratory Syncytial Virus. Luckily, she recovered, but it took 37 years to develop this vaccination for which there is no known medicine to fight it. You only need to get the vaccination once (at least for now). RSV is especially dangerous for people over 74. I cried when I got mine last year (the first year it was available) because it meant so much to me personally. As long as your arm’s going to be sore anyway… Thanks to all who do it!

(I didn’t even know there was a vaccine for this. Good info. ~ Jenny)

  15. I did get my RSV at the same time which meant COVID and flu in the same arm. The RSV did not hurt at all later but the flu/COVID arm did; it also got a bit read and warm.
The one tip I got back from a nurse when I got my second COVID shot (which technically is years ago😮) is to put some Voltaren on the injection site soon after and the rest of the day. Helps with any later pain. No COVID shot hurt until now when I did not put the Voltaren on it. Silly me.

  16. My parents got their shots yesterday and my dad ended up with noodle shoulder; I have to wait until I get the OK from my doctor (too many allergies to medications this year). Also, I really like your drawing; the lighter lines make it look delicate and slightly ephemeral to me.

  17. I read part of this aloud to my Louie laughing my tuckus off and clapping. He smiled his goofy grin and said “That does sound like something we would do.”

I almost want to go get a flu shot but I’m deathly allergic to almost every vaccine.

  18. I got the flu shot in one arm and pneumonia shot in the other. The pneumonia one was far worse than the flu one. Now I still have to talk myself into going back for the covid shot.

  19. You claim not to know him, but you know full well this is why you’re married 😛

  20. Don’t know if this will work for anyone else but I’ve begun taking Benedryl before getting shots and didn’t have a bit of pain this year despite getting both shots in the same arm. But I am allergic to the preservative they put in literally every shot so my sore arms always involved dramatic swelling and burning.

  21. I got the flu shot a week before my Covid shot, and I felt more tired and achy with the flu shot for a few days, and the Covid shot didn’t bother me more than a couple of hours afterwards.
I’m immunocompromised and allergic to tons of stuff, but for some reason I’ve always been okay with vaccines.
My ex got a Covid infection for the second time and he said it was awful this time, so now he’s going to get the vaccine after three months have passed.
My elderly mother got both vaccines the same day and in the same arm, and other than her arm being sore for a few days, she was fine.
She got the RSV vaccine last year and was fine with that too.
As long as the vaccine side effects are better than the illness itself, I’m getting the vaccines.
    I love your flower drawing!

  22. Both my husband and I got our Covid/flu shots a few weeks ago and neither of us had anything more than a very slight sore arm. Pfizer Covid vax, if that helps anyone. Hope your arms are better soon!

  23. I also pre-game with Benadryl; one of my friends who has more health stuff going on than I do taught me about that. I never have much energy to start with, but it’s working for me so far! (I’m also safe to drive on Benadryl; I know not everybody is.)

  24. Beautiful. Just a reminder that you are a talented artist, even when you don’t think you are.

  25. That picture you drew is gorgeous
Thank you for it and your hilarious hijinks at the pharmacy!

  26. Did you draw that free hand?

    It is absolutely awesome.

(Yep! With lots of erasing though. ~ Jenny)

  27. Good for you! I’m at covid shot #6 right now and I’m overdue for #7. In Australia vulnerable people are advised to have 6-monthly jabs but I’m having problems finding a GP close to where I live (I moved) that isn’t scared of my seeing eye dog. Fingers crossed I’ll get it all sorted soon but right now I’m considering travelling across town (probably between 1.5 and 2 hours each way by bus, 2 trains and walking) to see my old GP. Sigh.

  28. I’m trying to figure out how to get mine and when. I always get them at the same time because I HATE needles and I’d rather be down sick than psych myself up for a second shot. It makes sense in my brain.
Last year I ended up getting deep bruises (what the heck did the tech do?)
Also you and Victor are hilarious. I’m imagining you being IN the tiny small cubicle and acting like you just wandered in.

  29. I got my flu shot and had no arm pain as usual. But the COVID shot still hurts and I got that 3 weeks ago! It was really bad the first 5 days, and now it hurts if I press on the exact place the pharmacist sank the needle. I didn’t have anything near this much pain the other times, but I had COVID in 2020 and don’t want that s*#¥ again, so it’s worth it!

  30. Ouch. I feel you. Had four vaccinations a few weeks ago. Flu and Covid booster in my right arm, Shingles and pneumonia vax in my left. Kudos on being able to do anything. I mostly slept. My arms were sore, but not as much as usual, because I kept using the muscles in them immediately after the shot. I suspect the employees at the pizza place thought I had Tourette syndrome.

  31. Ooh a gun show. I don’t personally like guns but you do you. LOL.
I got my flu and covid Monday September 30. I totally regretted it when I worked yesterday. I was fatigued and sore all day. My arm still hurts. However if I get neither this year it’ll be worth it.

  32. Better immunity against COVID and the flu AND Adonis? You won, Jenny! Got my Covid and flu vaccinations yesterday too. So far; so good.

  33. How bad were the side effects from the COVID booster? I need one but also have autoimmune issues so I’ve been worried.

(For me I was achey and tired for 24 hours…mostly in my arms. Felt like a rheumatoid arthritis flair up. I feel fine today though. Totally worth it. ~ Jenny)

  34. Rider21 The chickenpox vaccine doesn’t work, the HPV does. Hailey should get it. Vax always 6 weeks apart otherwise your body is going what the hell is all of this?!
Which covid Vax did you get?

  35. Years ago boyfriend (of several years at that point, going on 14 now) went with me to hold my hand during a scary gyno exam. When the doctor asked how long we’d been together he told her it was our second date. He was in the hospital a couple months ago and whenever a nurse asked what our relationship was he said “she’s my roommate”. Nice to know there is another couple who enjoys making medical professionals look askance.

  36. Back when I was in the army, they lost my shot records. Army doc made me re-take every vaccination I had ever had in my life on one day. I have never been so sick in my life! Now I get sick every single time I get vaccinated. Had Covid & flu shot today and I’m not looking forward to the next couple days.

  37. I’m fully vaccinated for flu and the latest Covid but I still need my RSV. Oh Victor. There’s nothing sexier than a man winking at me. Free ticket to the gun show is all kinds of funny.

  38. Pro tip: Do Covid/Flu at same time as pet’s annual shots. Keeping it straight who gets what from whom – up to you.

  39. I got my Covid shot yesterday. It’s sore, I’m stiff and headachey. But a few weeks ago, my kid, who should have known better, got her Covid, flu, tdap, and hep b all at the same time. Knocked her on her butt. Personally, I like to know exactly what’s knocking me on my derrière.

  40. I’m glad you got your shots! It’s always a good idea to stay protected. Your story about the vaccination experience is hilarious and relatable. Your drawing is also really cute and expressive. Thanks for sharing and stay healthy!
