Maybe we’ll see Björk?

I am finally coming out of this massive depression and I just had a week where I felt like an actual human with real human energy and it was such a relief that I was saying yes to everything because I’ve been saying no for so long and Victor immediately took advantage of that to say, “What if we go to Iceland?” because he knows that seeing the Northern Lights is #1 on my bucket list and I was like, “I kind of want to say yes but also what if I fall back into the darkness or it’s too tiring?” and he was like, “TOO LATE, I BOOKED IT WHEN I HEARD YES” and so that is why we’re leaving for Iceland less than 12 hours. And I pointed out that I wasn’t sure if I had the stamina for a real trip and he was like, “That’s fine because I just booked it for 48 hours” and that sounds nuts but honestly, it works for us. I’m not entirely sure what is on the agenda but I will be on Björk alert the entire time because I love her, but also I would be way too anxious to say hello to her and so instead if I see her I will just capture the moment in my brain, like I am birdwatching and she is a giant shoebill. Or a puffin. Which apparently live in Iceland and I would be equally excited to see one because when you turn 50 you immediately become a bird-nerd.

Our house sitter will be watching the babies (SORRY, BURGLARS) and I would worry that they would miss us except that Dorothy Barker just wants to nap, and Purrsy and Professor Midnight have become utterly besotted with each other. I’m not sure if they’re long lost brothers or if “they were roommates” but they will not leave each other’s side.

THEY’RE HOLDING HANDS. MY HEART EXPLODED.

There are literally 50 softer places for them to sleep and so many cat beds. Nope. They just want to spoon on my chair.

This isn’t even their water bowl. It’s Dottie’s. They have 3 larger bowls in the house but if one cat is checking something out the other has to be doing it at the exact same time.

“Can we help you, ma’am?”

Also, yes, that is a cat playpen and I realize that’s a weird thing to have for teenage cats but Purrsy used it as a refuge when he was a baby and wanted to get away from Dottie and now Purrsy and the Professor both carry all their toys and drop them inside the playpen like it’s their dragon horde and so now I guess we’re the house with a cat playpen? I don’t know, y’all. I just live here.

Everyone who said Purrsy needed a friend was right.

Anyway, that is what’s up with me.

Wish me Björk luck.

  1. I absolutely loved Iceland! I want to move there! I hope you have a wonderful time, and I’m so happy to hear you are feeling better. And those cats! Just adorable.

  2. I love how even your cats blossom and embrace their magic under your magical energy spell

  3. If you have time, go to the sorcerer’s museum and see the necropants. Trust me, you will not be disappointed.

  4. Have big fun in Iceland. If you have time in Reyjavik, don’t miss the Phallological (Penis) Museum. You have to pay for admission and the gift shop in cash (unless they have changed), but they take all kinds of currency.

  5. If you are in Reykavik and have time, check out the Phallological (Penis) Museum. They only take cash for admission and the gift shop (unless it has changed) but they take all kinds of currency.

  6. It appears that your amazing cats are “more than roommates.”

    Bless the teenage kitty couple.

  7. OMG, I feel the same about Bjork. Have fun!!

Also, I love that Purrsy & The Professor are best friends.

  8. Have fun in Iceland! I went on a girls trip for our 50th birthdays and it’s absolutely gorgeous. The people are lovely, food is outstanding, and we were lucky enough to see the Northern Lights. I vaguely remember Puffins only being there at certain times, but it was a while ago. ENJOY! (So happy kitties are best buds)

  9. I don’t know what makes me smile more – that Victor talked you into Iceland (go, Victor!) or that your cats are BFFS forever, love the photos. Have fun. Maybe you’ll see Björk AND Lauffey!

  10. I’ve always wanted to visit Iceland!
They ask the Hidden People (elves) before disturbing the land to build something. Which is very polite and enlightened to recognize that there are beings and things that exist that modern science can’t understand yet, and to honor the old ways on our planet.

I’m so glad Purrsy and Professor Midnight have found their life companions in each other, and brought light to your lives as well.
When my mother was suffering a deep depression during the ending of her second marriage at the same time that her kids were starting to leave home to start their college years and young adult lives, and our family dog was missing the kids as well, I brought her a void kitten who was a wild, rambunctious little disrupter who insisted she pay attention to him. I truly believe that cat and our ever patient cat-loving dog saved her life at a very difficult time for us all. I’m glad you’ve found two little kitties who have filled your lives with love and light during all the changes you’ve endured these last couple years.
May you have a wonderful trip to Iceland and see all the wonderful sights and creatures and people who live there.

  11. Bon Voyage! I love Iceland. It has such amazing natural beauty.
I am so glad you are feeling better!

  12. They are so much like Kylo and Hux. Kylo is my Void kitty and Hux is my Orangsicle. I was worried about integrating them but I woke up after night 1 of having adopted Hux and they were in the “hammie” (hammock) together. They did everything together including guarding each other when they had to go to the bathroom. 🤣😂🤣

A picture from their first month of two together.

  13. Buy yarn there, even if you don’t knit. It’s this amazing stuff that isn’t spun and I still have a wonderful sweater I made from it when husband number one took me there because he said where do you want to go? And I picked the furthest place out of spite. (Holy run on sentence Batman!). I’m talking about 30 or so years go.

  14. Huzzah ! Welcome back and I wish you a Bjork-filled trip and a bonus of an Aurora Borealis show.

  15. Have a fabulous trip! We did 3 days in Iceland a few years ago and got to see the Northern Lights twice, totally worth it. Try to go to the Sky Lagoon (less crowded than the Blue Lagoon), very relaxing for your first day. Love the kitty pictures, so glad they found each other and you!

  16. There is nothing cuter than an orange kitty and a black kitty as BFF’s. You are in for a VERY special lifetime of chaos!!!

  17. I’m super happy the depression has lifted and you’re saying yes to stuff!! Great memories are always worth making ❤️ and the way those cats love each other is making my heart explode with happiness

  18. Hope with all my heart that you meet your favorite singer 👩‍🎤 🎤 and have a amazing 48 hours in Iceland 🇮🇸 💙 ❤️ ♥️

  19. Safe and easy travels Jenny. I love the Bjork bird analogy. Except I’d definitely imagine her as a swan. Hope the northern light put on a full show for you. Those cats were def lovers in a previous 9 lives.

  20. Have a fabulous time. And be sure to take photos and videos of the Northern Lights; the camera lens picks up the colors much more intensely than the human eye (has to do with the rods and cone cells in the eye and which are active in the dark).

  21. That is amazing bonding. I wish my last addition had gone that smoothly. If you are a cat lover never visit a shelter or cat cafe unless you plan to take someone home. Just human nature.

  22. Your boys are absolutely delightful. I have a set of brothers. Tuxedos. They love and hate each other all day long. They were born under a truck across the street and then their mother got disappeared by the one jerk on our block. I’m so glad I took both of them.

  23.  As a fellow multicat person, I second your comment: “I don’t know, y’all. I just live here.”

  24. Oh my HEART. I’m not even a cat person. They are just absolutely darling and appear to be in love. Beautiful.

  25. Oh you will not want to come back from Iceland! We will prepare to ship the animals.

  26. 2 is always better than 1! When I adopted my first ever kitten (I always adopt older/senior cats) 3 years ago after a foster fail, it was immediately obvious that one kitten and 2 senior cats was a terrible idea. A verrrrrry long 2 months later, I foster failed a second kitten and they became instant best buddies. However, that was like 4 more cats ago so they now have two more siblings, one younger one older and they have formed a pack. I realllllly want to keep my current foster kitten but she is going to a good friend so that helps a little. If they like to play with balls, I’d suggest creating a ball pit for them. I used a small plastic kiddie pool and a bazillion crinkle balls from Amazon to fill it. My current foster is so obsessed with it I may send it home with her. She’s 7 months old for reference. So happy for you & your new furry children!

  27. Iceland is beautiful. Also very, very rainy, or at least it was when I visited.

If you want to do something outside of the usual Golden Circle, I can recommend the black sand beach near a village called Vik. It has black sand! And also puffins. (Well, it had puffins when we were there, but they may be elsewhere in the winter.)

  28. While I love ALL of your Insta content, I can’t lie…I am now checking it exclusively for updates on these 2. So please keep them coming!

  29. So excited that you’re going to Iceland! I was only there for a weekend myself; had ALL the weather in those 72 hours, but loved, loved, loved Iceland. I hope you will too.

  30. I LOVE that three of the previous comments on this refer to the phallus museum. You sure do have a “type”, Jenny and I am here for it!

Enjoy Iceland; dick museum or not!

  31. Have a great time. I hear swimming in the Blue Lagoon is amazing. Actually I hear everything there is amazing.

  32. I absolutely love that the meows are inseparable 💗. Could you imagine if it was the opposite? Yikes

I’m also absolutely love that you are on the upswing 💗

I always quote myself saying..” I live between…before and after the darkness”

You grab it where you can. Namaste and lots of love Enjoy the Northern Lights and Bjork too

  33. We just returned from Iceland Sunday night. An incredible experience – so glad you’ll get to go! We even saw Lady A a few times. Wishing you do too! Enjoy! And I love how sweet your cats are…

  34. Sweet pictures, Jenny!

Hoping you have a fabulous trip! Can’t wait to read about it.

Wishing you and Victor smooth travels!

  35. Iceland is amazing! I was ready for the beautiful rugged scenery and the juxtaposition of fire and ice that makes the island. But this was something that completely caught me off guard: their bread is the best I’ve had ANYWHERE. And I lived in France.

  36. OK mad jealous…of your cats. That is so adorable and it sickens me. In a good way.

  37. As they say in Iceland, when they are speaking Icelandic… Bless Elskan. Which translates to Good bye Sweetheart or darling. I hope you see puffins. Just be aware that they can sometimes be on the menu. Alison

  38. That is the most precious! They belong together. Although my phone wanted to say “they bong together,” and that might be true, too.

  39. I used to have an orange kitty and a void, and now I miss them so much! I love that they’re having so much fun together. That picture of them holding hands is absolutely precious!

Have an amazing time in Iceland! I wish you the best possible view of the Northern Lights!

  40. I’m so happy the fog has lifted and you have the energy for this trip. Victor is a very wise man to just book something short that is a whirlwind but will be SOOO amazing. See all the things! I love this for you.

  41. My parents are currently in Iceland and I am getting so many awesome waterfall and gyser and windswept plateau pictures. They did mention that there are very high winds, like sometimes enough to feel like it’s pushing you back high, so bring warm, water resistant gear if you can if you plan on exploring outdoors. You will have a blast!

  42. I am genuinely in love with Professor Midnight. I’m allergic to cats, dammit, but I really enjoying living vicariously through you in cat-motherhood.

  43. I realized the other day that the first day the sun shines into the abyss of a depression is one of the most mildly wonderful days. It’s just a tiny celebration inside of me. It’s not fireworks, just the relief of getting through. It’s one of the nicest things I know. I’m so glad you got to the sunshine. I hope Iceland is magic. Also a continuous flow the kitta pics is wonderful.

  44. The pictures of Purrsy and the Professor are the sweetest thing I’ve seen this week. The cuteness, oh my god. 🥰 Hope you’re having a wonderful time in Iceland!

  45. Hope you have a chiilin’ great time. A two day trip sounds like a good decision!

  46. You’ll definitely _think_ you’ve seen Björk. I went there once, and at least half of the Icelandic women resemble her.

  47. This post made me so happy. You’re feeling better, you’re adventuring, and your cats are amazing. I hope Iceland was incredible!

  48. Björk luck!

I’ve been through depression as well. Glad you said YES and your husband went with it. Enjoy your trip and keep on saying yes to things! Get back out there and enjoy life again. It’s way to short! Find JOY in the little things. One day at a time, one moment and yes at a time!
