The porn-hating blue elephant in the room

The porn-hating blue elephant made an appearance in Galveston yesterday to help bring attention to pornography issues.  The church responsible for the elephant claims that “47 percent of Christian families say porn is a problem in their home”  They don’t clarify what that problem is but I suspect it’s “bad acting”.

In related news “National Porn Sunday” not nearly as fun as it sounds.

(Best comment of the day – Spamboy:  I have a terrible time looking at that thing and thinking, “Man, I really need to toss out my copy of Boner Jams ‘02.” But I do have the sudden urge to buy a used car…)

  1. Man, I so want to click that porn sunday link but I don’t think my job would approve. Bummer! Hopefully I’ll remember to check it out once I get home! 🙂

  2. Actually, National Porn Sunday is just a link to a church. A triple X church! No, actually just a normal church. If I ever link to something really inappropriate I promise I’ll give you a NSFW warning next to the link.

    I got your back, chica.

  3. I was telling hubby about that the other day. I thought it seemed like a good idea, in theory, but we wondered if they would be discussing the porn problem during the service…Not exactly family friendly. Or would it be more of a Sunday School type program…Hubby said “As if the guy with the porn problem is going to choose to attend THAT class.” Seriously, I hope it does some good. It does cause a problem for a lot of families.

  4. Sorry, I have a terrible time looking at that thing and thinking, “Man, I really need to toss out my copy of Boner Jams ’02.” But I do have the sudden urge to buy a used car…

  5. “bad acting” BAH!

I didn’t realize that Christians had such a problem with porn. Is it like Native Americans and drinking? Thanks for bringing these issues to the forefront, Jenny!

  6. What kind of Christians are these that have such a big porn problem? Is the porn pushing itself into their homes without their consent? We have that problem with ants, but the porn doesn’t seem to get further than our porch.

  7. I’m puzzled as to why churches are so nosy about what consenting adults are doing in their homes anyway . . . nosy pervs . . .

  8. I don’t think they should use Elephants in Porn. Especially blue ones. They should be in the circus.

  9. I want to click but I can’t, somehow I don’t think my work would approave. Did they say anything about nature’s porn?

  10. If that many people say that porn is a problem in their homes, then they need to address a whole bunch of issues. I don’t think porn is really the root of the problem there.

  11. Interesting, “47 percent of Christian families say porn is a problem in their home”, so that means that 53% like it. Hmmm, maybe christians aren’t so bad after all…nah.

  12. WTF??? excuse me while i go get it on with my giant blue elephant while the camera crew plays bow chicka bow wow music in the background…

  13. I would love to have heard how that decision went down in a church council meeting.

Pastor – “Porn is the elephant in the room nobody is talking about!”

    Church Secretary – Kay.

Pastor – What we really need to do is buy a HUGE blowup elephant advertising how much we hate porn and plant it on the church lawn. Can we get the funds?

    Church Treasurer – Kay.

Pastor – Excellent, meeting adjorned! (leaves room)

CT & CS – Holy fuck!

  14. “That elephant looks a bit sad…I wonder if a trunk job could perk him up???”

    Who nose?

  15. “47 percent of Christian families say porn is a problem in their home” They don’t clarify what that problem is but I suspect it’s “bad acting”.

Yet… they still watch “The 700 Club” and pretty much anything with Mary Kate and Ashley Olson.

  16. So you go to church and your kids see this giant blue elephant and my six year old says “p-o-r-n, po-r-n, por-n, porn, mama what’s porn? Great.

  17. I would also like to know what problem 47 percent of these “Christain” families have with porn. Maybe they’d have less issues with porn if they’d concentrate less on bible thumping and more on having fun in the bedroom.

  18. What the hell is so wrong with porn? I think if more people watched porn then the world would be a better place. If people are happier, less problems! And who isn’t happy watching porn
