I swear this isn’t directed at anyone. It’s totally okay to not like my cat pictures. I salute you, cat pic haters.

PS. This is not directed at anyone who doesn’t like my cat pictures.  This is America.  You are totally allowed to hate cat pictures.  And to hate cats.  And to stab them with fish forks.

PPS.  You can’t really stab them with fish forks.  That was a test to see how you’d react.  You failed.

PPPS.  My sense of humor is broken this week.  It’s okay to hate this post.  It’s not even a real post.  Also, I apologize for not writing a weekly wrap-up.  Shit’s fucked up this week.

PPPPS.  This last paragraph has nothing to do with cat pictures, but it’s a Doctor Who quote that I needed to hear again.  Maybe you do too:  “The way I see it, every life is a pile of good things and bad things… The good things don’t always soften the bad things, but vice versa, the bad things don’t necessarily spoil the good things, and make them unimportant.”  Touché, Doctor.

  1. Ugh, I think everybody is having a terrible week. I’m pretty sure the official mantra of this week is “Fuck everything”.

  2. 1. Life needs more cat pictures

    2. That quote rocks. It has gotten me through some bad days. Keep your head up! This will get better.

  3. Ha, this comment made me laugh! Am in the midst of a packing week.. can feel the grumpiness coming on. Thank you for keeping it at bay for now 🙂

  4. I’ve never seen Dr. Who, but that quote might be the thing that finally gets me to watch it. I hope things get better for you and your family soon, Jenny.

  5. I always try to remember, when I don’t like things, that it’s okay to not like things, it’s okay, but don’t be a dick about it…
Thankfully, I am of the opinion that there are not nearly enough cat pictures on the internet, so WHEE!

  6. This week, I need the cats. As many as possible, please.

And I love that Doctor Who quote.

  7. I love your cat pics! Also, your sense of humor is allowed to be broken. You give people so much……I hope you realize that. I hope you are okay…you are greatly loved…as are your cats..and pictures

  8. I’m with Erin on the “fuck everything.” This week has been bad for everyone. I had to talk a friend into restarting her antidepressants last night, which made me realize I need to do the same. Fuck everything.

    And cat pics FTW.

  9. I don’t trust people that don’t like cats or cat pictures, pretty sure they don’t have a soul….

  10. That Doctor Who quote is absolutely perfect.

And there can NEVER be enough cat pictures.

  11. Here’s what I think: Mental illness has been in the news rather a lot lately. It is a very difficult thing and sometimes, bad things happen – to the mentally ill, or BY the mentally ill… or both. But, when things are really really sad and shitty, it’s not a sign of mental illness to feel sad and shitty. You owe no one any apologies. Grieve your head off, be angry, be sad, be miserable. The kinds of things you are dealing with deserve your attention and your emotional focus.

  12. Moar cats. Please. In fact I feel like grabbing all the cats in my house and hibernating under the quilts for a while. Great Dr. Who quote btw.

  13. I’m defined by the pics of my cat. I don’t believe in making a judgement call about that. There are not enough pics of cats with trees, blankets, toys…… And yeah, life is awesome, excepting the shitty parts. 🙂

  14. Hey Hey I smiled. Thanks for that! It takes special people to make people laugh. You are special. Not in the Easter Seals way but you know… the non Easter Seals way.

  15. Cats rule. Everything should be about cats. Fuck ’em if they can’t like a cat. And if they don’t love The Doctor.

  16. Too many cat pictures?!
Self-learning computers look them up all on their own. MORE cat pictures.
In all seriousness, it’s been an H A R S H week, and you help us get through it. Love.

  17. Thanks for the Doctor Who quote. It’s so great to hear it again, especially after the past few days. Also? Cat pictures are the shit. The End.

  18. “I used to think it was awful that life was so unfair. Then I thought, ‘wouldn’t it be much worse if life *were* fair, and all the terrible things that happen to us come because we actually deserve them?’ So now I take great comfort in the general hostility and unfairness of the universe.”

My favorite quote. Not sure it will help, but I thought I’d share since your Dr. Who quote made me think of it. It’s a Babylon 5 quote, and it’s helped me through some very rough patches.

  19. First response every although I’ve read your stuff.

It’s been a sucky week. People are off the rails all around. Maybe the season, dunno.

Just stick around, things will get better. They tend to.

  20. Captain Morgan and Geena Davis are gobsmacked. Too many cat pictures on the internet? NEVER!

BTW Captain Morgan is not the rum swilling pirate but the 17 lb fur ball curled up next to me on the bed. And Geena Davis…well it isn’t REALLY Geena Davis because if it was my husband would definitely NOT be sound asleep right now (he loves GD). Nope Geena is the slightly less rotund sibling of Captain Morgan. (remember how Geena Davis played a lady pirate in that pirate movie with…what’s his name…eric stoltz?) Keeping the pirates in the feline family so to speak.

Anyway…there are NEVER too many cats on the internet. And never apologize, when your humor mojo gets temporarily blindsided by life…it happens. We’re here for the good, the bad, the ugly, the funny, and the FELINE!

  21. I am simply going to say this: when I am having a shitty day I come to your posts, especially the cat pictures, to lift my spirits. Keep doing what you do and fuck the haters! (not literally of course)

  22. People forget that blogs exist to help the WRITER through life. Finding an audience is an happy bonus. So, basically, fuck anyone who this may or may not be directed at. They suck and I hope you ever, ever feel like you have to write to please us. Post whatever you want, the rest of us love it.

PS: Your cat pictures get me through some of my worst days.

  23. 1. There are never enough cat pictures on the internet. In fact, if Yahoo! and Google jointly made Grumpy Cat their mascots, I think the universe would suddenly feel whole and then the fish forks would be used to eat fish and not get all stabby at the computer monitor.

    2. I’ve been reading your tweets and just wanted to send a huge hug your way, Jenny. Like, a hug bigger than Beyonce’s attitude when she knocked on your front doorstep. All the best.. x

  24. Your cat pictures save me from the multiple lacerations I would suffer trying to get pictures of my own cat. Post away!

  25. This is one of the worst weeks in history. Go hug the kid and the cats and one can never have too many cat pictures especially Hunter S. Thompson who was put on this earth to make everything better. I come here if I’m having a bad day and search for all the Hunter posts. He makes me smile and reminds me to keep the pill bottles away from my cats.

  26. I don’t care one way or another about the cat. I care about the children that were killed in Newtown, Ct. their parents, teachers, principal. I can’t stop thinking about it. How to move on? Laurie

(By living your life with as much joy as you can in their honor. It’s easier said than done but I know that’s what I’d want if I was one of the victims. ~ Jenny)

  27. (hug) its been a shitty week and it’s finally over. Thank fucking god for that.
A picture of Juanita would sum up this week nicely, come to think of it. Are there too many pictures of taxidermied Juanitas on the internet?

  28. Yeah, I definitely needed that quote today. I think we all did. As always, thank you, Jenny. Your posts and tweets, whether silly or serious, always serve to remind me that I am not alone. None of us are alone. We are all in this together, and we need to hold onto each other, and the good, and the light, and the absurd, to carry us through the dark times. We need to take care of each other. Take care of yourself. The world needs you. I need you.

  29. Your cat pictures make me happy. I still giggle out loud at random times thinking of the Ferris Mewler out-sexy-ing Eric Northman pictures.

  30. That doctor who quote has helped me through days when I don’t want to get out of bed. I know you are having a shitty week but know that you have all of us here for you. Also there are never to many cat pictures in my opinion.

  31. I LOVE cats and cat pictures – though what is up with your cat’s eyes in the above pic???

I “lost” two “friends” on Facebook this week – they “unfriended” me because I called them assholes – because they are assholes. I guess that makes it my fault – but I’m better off without them and their stupid ideas. ‘

    Back to cats though –

  32. My two-year-old granddaughter was murdered last January, so this is our first Christmas without her. I thought I was holding it together pretty well, until the tragedy in Connecticut. Thinking about those poor families and knowing what they are going through is overwhelming. So, We put our Christmas tree up today, which should be a happy thing. But, when we hung her ornaments, I started crying and haven’t stopped since.

  33. This week sucked! It really just sucked. (Well, my week was shitty cause my kid is literally shitting the bed sick)

I’d rather see cat pictures on the internet than read horrific shit that happened in real life. Bring me more cats!!

  34. applause for wonderful usage of a Doctor Who quote. also, sending you a big hug. not because it will make the bad things go away, but the bad things won’t make a big hug any less of a good thing. <3

  35. Jenny, I adore cats. I miss my Scooter. My husband is severely allergic to cats and dogs. So when I decided to move in with him over 10 years ago, I had to give her to my mom. She was amazeballs. She played catch and played dead. Yes, just like a dog. *sigh*

  36. Sometimes you just need a cat picture, and an e-hug. Nothing else in the world makes much sense so we rely on what does. So give yourself a hug and say it’s from me (in the non-creepy way) and here’s a picture of my cat. She looks like Hitler but please don’t judge her based on that 😉

  37. I’m having a hard time finding my funny this weekend, too. It’s totally understandable. We’re all grieving right now. But I do like cat pictures. In fact, I think they might cheer me up a hell of a lot. I’m going to implement them as part of my therapy this week. (Please don’t send me a bill, though. That might completely negate the positive effect of cat memes.)

  38. You know, that quote of the Doctor’s has comforted me a lot when things have gone wrong.

And so far as anyone who feels entitled enough to whine… screw them! I explain to my friends that my blog is a space for me to work out how I feel about some topics, and not there to cater to what they want to see. Besides, I think given the last few days, we could all use some cat photos.

But really, how does Juanita feel about this? 😉

  39. “And you definitely added to my pile of good things…” Dr Who (OK, so I changed the persons from “we” to “you” and “his” to “mine”, but it really only makes sense that way in this context and since this isn’t a real post, I don’t have to be exact with what isn’t a real Dr Who quote… but Vincent Van Gogh won’t mind and so you shouldn’t either.). Love you Jenny!

  40. Thank you for posting that Doctor Who quote. I think I needed that after this week. And I may not be a cat person (more allergic to them) but I love cat pictures.

  41. Wasn’t the internet invented for cat pictures? I mean, wasn’t that the WHOLE point? If not, it totally should have been.

  42. The internet is a place of cat-worship, haven’t you heard? 😉 In any case, hang in there. Lie is sucky a lot and like the dear doctor said: ‘900 years of time and space and I’ve never met anyone who wasn’t important.’ Totally goes for cat picture-posters as well. Unfortunately also for haters, now that I think about it. Yeah, it really doesn’t make much sense. In any case, I normally don’t leave messages, just wanted to tell you that somewhere behind the clouds the sun is still shining (I know, I saw a little ray of it yesterday!) Be you and share cats. Even if it means little, at least I love the cats. 🙂

  43. I’m still being beaten by last Monday. I vote all Mondays be cancelled from here on out. As for shitty weeks…seems to be the season. I’d say “chin up” but I’d sound like my mother and that would be a fate worse than death. Do whatever the hell you want with your chin.

  44. I hope your pile of good things is bigger than your pile of bad things. But let’s all just be grateful we have a pile of something. Anything. Unless it’s a pile of cat shit. That would suck. So, in closing: Cat pics = good. Cat shit= bad.

  45. Goddess bless you for this one and every other post and cat pic!! I say “NO!!” to the current “fuck everything” sentiment that’s making the rounds. Instead, “love and cherish everything.” Hug everyone and everything you can.

  46. We love you… and most of us … especially those of us with children know exactly where you are right now. Personally you cant have enough Hunter S. Tomcat so … more cat pictures please. *hugs*

  47. Take heart in the wise words of Mr. Fred Rogers: “When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, ” Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.” To this day, especially in times of “disaster”, I remember my mother’s words and I am always comforted by the fact there are still so many helpers- So many caring people in this world.”

Also, no such thing as too many cats. Especially your cats. This is what the internet was made for!

  48. Not a cat person either but I do love a sassy cat pic anyway. Re-reading LPTNH right now because honestly, I can’t sleep if I’m not reading, watching Doctor Who and playing Spider all at the same time. I can’t let my mind wander.

For the record, you bring so much laughter and joy to the world. Thanks.

  49. My week was totally fucked too. I’m hoping that this next week is awesome. Or at least closer to normal, which is not awesome at all, but not so fucked up and busy that I want to stab MYSELF with a fish fork. Yeah, that’s what I hope.

  50. I wise person told me, “You don’t have to be perfect to be excellent.”

You already are excellent. Take time to do some self-care. Your humor will return…

  51. Jenny, you’re amazing. Never stop posting what you do. Your funny posts get me through the day, sometimes, because what I need more than everything else is to laugh.

And I love that Dr. Who quote, too. The Doctor is one of my major allies in the battle against depression, honestly.

  52. I love your cat pics despite the fact that all cats are out to kill me 🙂 ( stupid allergies!)…go hug your daughter and then hug your cat…then go get a hug from your hubby…stay well.

  53. Keep the cat pics coming, this world needs a little more laughter in it. Especially with all the pain and sense of hopelessness that this week has brought.

  54. I just wanted to tell you I LOVE your blog-whether its a serious post or a HIL-freaking-Larious post. I love the randomness, whether its a cat pic (which I love) or one about metal chickens (that one is printed out and kept under my work calendar to get me through a rough day) So keep on with the cat pictures or whatever floats your boat. I hope your week gets better.

  55. I’m always afraid to post because I’m just not as smart and funny as you are but here goes: Your posts and book are awesome. Please keep the HST pictures as part of your blog.
This blog is your voice and no one else’s. Say or don’t say what you want. I have no idea why the douche nozzles and twat waffles of the world always feel like they have to put people down.
This blog is perfect. So are your tweets. THANK YOU… and I don’t know if it works or not but I choose to believe that when I send a strong thought of support and hope your way it eventually gets there.

  56. Yes but there aren’t NEARLY enough pictures of Hunter S. Thomcat.

And don’t feel bad about whatever crazy shit is happening with you this week. You’re not alone, sister. The energy these past few days has been all kinds of whack for so many people – the shooting in Connecticut being only one example. Shit is shifting. Stay present and allow yourself to be however you show up. There are hearts beating in tune with yours all over the planet right now. You are not alone.

And take more pictures of your cat, please.

  57. Never apologize to us. You are loved. I know everyone is hurting and confused and afraid this week. Thank you for being a consistent beacon of humor and acceptance in this often scary fucked up world. I always feel better after visiting your website. *Hugs* and *Smiles*

  58. I once had this friend on the internet, named Hotspur. Hotspur was a dear friend, and I had the privilege of meeting this wonderful soul exactly one time, at my wedding. Less than two months later ( a few days before Halloween actually), Hotspur committed suicide. Ze had some pretty severe depression issues stemming from gender identity. Ze was never aware of how many people were in hir corner. If ze did, ze never admitted it. Hotspur’s family was overwhelmed by the attendance at hir funeral. The music (selected by Hotspur) included music such as “Bird on a Wire” and “Mad World”, because ze wanted people to understand how ze felt. This was a person who I had known for only a few years, and met exactly once, yet had a profound impact on my life. My heart goes out to you in your time of such loss.

  59. I must admit I really don’t get it when people think it’s OK to be negative about a blog, or, anything really on the Internet. It’s bad manners and nasty! If someone doesn’t like part or whole of another’s writing or posting, I regard it as too bad, but really not their business to point out that it’s not to their taste. If they don’t like it, move on, the next thing is coming almost Instantaneously! They are not the arbiters of all things bright and beautiful! Phooey on them!

As for you Bloggess, when I’m sad and not feeling too good about myself, I check to see if you’ve posted anything because you always touch me, move me, remind me I’m human and I need that.

  60. Just so you know my brain’s priorities I know your cat’s names but can’t remember the password to my online benefits.

  61. If you don’t like cat pictures, the Internet is probably not for you.

Also, Jenny, you are completely wonderful. You owe us all nothing, and you give us so much. You put so much good into the world. I can’t even expound on this properly right now, but let me just say thank you.

  62. I don’t watch Doctor Who but cat pictures are probably some of the good things that were mentioned in the quote. Cat pictures make people happy. Unless they don’t like cat pictures, in which case, I can’t see why they would even be on the internet.

  63. To quote a famous TV show theme song. I’m only doing this because I’m a huge Survivor fan by the way. “You take the good you take the bad you take them both and there you have the facts of life.” With that said, both good and bad are relative terms. The most you can hope for is that you’re wanted, needed and loved. You could be wanted, needed and loved by crack whores. You could be wanted, needed and loved by members of a church. Regardless, those are the basic human desires. I have no idea what I’m saying.

  64. There can never be too many cat pictures…and I’m not even a cat person. And, on a suck-ass week such as this, cat pictures (especially ones in which the cat drops the f-bomb) are more than welcome. Thank you!

  65. Hang in there Jenny. Things will get better.

By the way. Way better than PPPPS is…PISS…Post Intermediate Secondary Script. Just so ya know.

  66. Dear Jenny,

I took something you recently wrote very much to heart. You said, “Depression lies.” It was as if you spoke those words directly to me. This week has been bad, really bad, for a lot of reasons. The best thing that happened to me, what got me through all of it, was a silver cuff bracelet I had made not long after your blog on depression. It has the words “Depression Lies” inscribed on it. It keeps me steady when I look at it and know that it is true and I am not alone. Thank you for those two words.
I hope all our weeks become better.

  67. It has been a tough week here too. I had to hospitalize my teenage son after he threatened suicide last week. The four days I spent on 24 x 7 watch before finding him a bed were terribly long. Now I am glad he is getting the help he needs while I take care of his younger brother and find ways to visit at least once a day (he’s 60 miles away). The example you have set has helped a lot! Know you are not alone and we will all persevere through this tough time together.

  68. I spent a good part of last night watching mating rituals of different kinds of the Birds of Paradise just to avoid the news and ugly reality things. Right now, I’m loving anything non-violent, so bring on the cat pics.

  69. Last Monday I was on a jury and helped convict a man who stabbed his girlfriend 17 times. After a week of graphic pictures of the poor murder victim I thought I had seen the worst thing for a while. Then Friday happened. I don’t know what anything means at this point. I think “fuck everything” sums it up nicely.

  70. I don’t remember at all where I saw this but there was a quote something to the effect of ‘of course the internet is full of cats, dog people go outside.’ So there.

  71. I am allergic to cats and the Internet is as close as my poor babies will ever get to having a cat. More damn cat pictures, mother fuckers!!!!

  72. I’m not even a “cat person” (allergic don’t stab me with a cocktail toothpick shaped like a sword) and I post cat pics and am a co-admin of a cat’s Facebook page http://www.facebook.com/lechatnoirbones The word definitely can do with more cat pics. Especially ones of cats being assholes.

  73. I had a fucked up last couple of weeks. I feel you. The thing that helped the most, oddly enough? A fortune cookie. One of those things that was just chance at just the right time. Go figure.

  74. A friend of mine recently commented in another forum that hating on haters is just a milder form of being the hater, and what is the difference. I look at it more like those people are either brain damaged, or they are reeling with something else they’re not sharing, maybe they just found out they have cancer, or lost someone precious. In this case, maybe a cat figures largely in the personal history. If this person has no clue (did you mention somewhere this was a one time IP visit?) that you post pix of taxidermied animals right and left, they probably don’t have any context for the cat comment. I tend to avoid ‘train wrecks’, having been a victim of one in a very public way in a worldwide fandom, but one thing I learned out of that over some time is that the lurkers who keep coming back are the true fans. They are here for YOU. Not the hater. Every footprint back from a returning IP is a little hug. THEY NEED CAT PICTURES. 😉 Love you. I really hope your Christmas week is better.

  75. Something else there’s way too much of on the internet: people who feel their negative opinion, however little thought out, must surely be worthwhile enough to others to share in a comment section somewhere. At least cat pictures are benevolent. (Also, “too many cat pictures” = crazy talk.)

  76. Jenny I’m so sorry for the loss of your friend. It’s bullshit that makes no sense, is what it is.

Have you seen the cat that looks like Batman? Google it. It’ll cheer you up for like, 0.3 seconds.

    XXXXX Big love to you

  77. If you, or anyone, wouldn’t have had a bad week after all that happened that would worry me more. I started following tweets posted bij cats..it helps!

  78. OMG–“Shit’s fucked up this week” is such an appropriate quote for my week. But there aren’t anywhere near enough cat pictures on the internet. I love your cats. Post all the pictures you want of them.

  79. There is absolutely no such thing as too many cat pictures! Also, at first I read that PS as, “And to stab them with fish STICKS” and I was like, OMG that’s AWESOME! I can think of a bunch of people I would like to stab with fish sticks.

  80. The week has been crap, from beginning to (if there’s a God) end, which would be today. People who don’t want to see anyone’s cat pics online can do what I do when I don’t want to look at someone’s fat ass pictures — go to another site.

However, I’d really rather look at pictures of cats getting stabby with fish sticks at those pea-brained haters. It’s all fun and games until someone loses an eye…

  81. I needed that. I am going into one of my bouts of depression. I feel it slowly sinking sliding over my shoulders like a heavy blanket. I hate cats. I know you love them. It was nice to be ‘given permission’ to hate them too. Now, if I could only feel like I have the courage to give myself permission to not be ok for a bit.

  82. Thank you for this, it was well timed. I have been going through a shit storm of sorts lately and Doctor Who’s quote touched home. 🙂

  83. This week is NOT being polite at all. THE MAYANS ARE COMING THE MAYANS ARE COMING!!!! I want to see a “Hang in there Baby” pic of Hunter S. Thomcat!!!!!

  84. I love your cat pictures and their stories and all your stories no matter how long or short they are. Haters are going to hate. Let them…it burns them up on the inside not you. It’s been a rough week. just remember go at one day at a time. Hang in there….don’t give up on the world. The world is not giving up on you.

  85. I’ma let you finish but The Bloggess has the best cat pictures of the whole internet. OF THE WHOLE INTERNET!

  86. Shit IS fucked. I’ve been grieving all week about people I don’t know (but I strongly believe that children all belong to all of us. And then just like that I have a horrible tragic dog decision to make and while part of me thinks I should be glad it’s “only a dog” (but she’s my dog and I love her so much), instead I’m finding myself wanting to curse at God “you couldn’t fucking leave me my dog for some comfort???” broken hearted. So many reasons.

  87. Just wanted you to know that I tweeted a special cat pic for you, Jenny. (Warning: I’m new to Twitter and it shows.) This has been a terrible week for everyone. And for you, well…especially so. I, too, lost a dear friend many years ago in the same way, & I realize there’s nothing I can really say to ease things the way I wish I could. I think just knowing we’re not alone is the best medicine, and I hope you know that. Just reading above…the support of your friends/fans is something else. Your wit, mixed with kindness and so much more, is very rare…and your words have always helped me more than you can know. My depressive issues & anxiety (whatever the hell you want to call it; here in Texas that’s SO much fun :-P) are jacked up now with so much going on; I’m constantly wishing I were able to be as honest and funny as you are about it all. But I’m really just grateful for it. At the lowest times, you are one of the very few people who can make me smile. (Cheesy, I know. But I think it’s worth it to let you know.) So. There ya go. And a pic of my Mia for you on Twitter. Anything else you need, I believe you’ll find it…just as you always do. Happy thoughts.
P.S. Pic of your Hailey with Toys for Tots was AMAZING. Her smile is beautiful, something you should be proud of. I know she’s her own person, but as we often see here on your blog, she’s definitely yours. ~XOXO~

  88. The world would be a happier place if there were more, not less, cat pictures on the internet.
    Sending you hugs and sympathy.

  89. I JUST watched that episode. The part where Van Gogh is in the museum and the curator is talking about how he’s not just the greatest painter, but the greatest man, is amazing. We can all only dream of being so understood an appreciated some day, if only by a few others.

  90. Love you, Jenny. It’s your frigging blog…write whatever the fuck you want. I cannot tell you how many late nights I have spent, reading and re-reading your blog entries and giggling like a maniac.

And while yes, there may actually be too many cat pictures out there on the internet, there is no limit placed on you here. Because Hunter Tomcat (honestly…I can’t quite remember the name of your cat right now, even though I find it hilarious. It’s just because I’m stressed, it’s butt-crack early here, and I’ve had no coffee yet) is the most adorable cat ever.

My personal advice to my kids is: there is always at least one asshole in the group. Chris? You’re that asshole. Yes, I know that asshole never recognizes him or herself, but maybe a public outing will help you: YOU ARE THAT ASSHOLE. Go away. I can’t write anymore without really saying some mean shit, so I’ll stop now.

  91. Cats think there are way too many people pix on the internet. Cats would be much happier with only cat pix.

  92. Something that brings a smile to anyone’s face is too right to be wrong, especially this week. Cats, puppies, I’ll even take a goldfish who knows how to crack a joke.

Who knew the Mayan Apocalypse would seem like a vast improvement on other shit?

  93. Can we just break Christmas/equivalent religious/gift-giving holiday into smaller holidays through the year, to stop this madness?

At work, orders for product have exceeded the amount of product we can physically produce, so we’re still working 60-70 hour weeks, and doing some night shift again, in order to meet the smaller amounts we can produce.

I am the freak who gets their phone out to show pictures of my cats to people I’ve barely met! Though to be fair, my cats are gorgeous and very expressive (this one photo, where he’s looking depressed about having to wear the Elizabethan collar…).
I only like cats now that they have been thrust upon me, though.

  94. Yeah, last week pretty much sucked big hairy donkey balls. I don’t want to watch the news. I want to see Hunter. In fact, we need moar of him.
I thik we all get why you haven’t blogged much. I’ve been hit with that numb feeling too many times this week myself.
we all need time to process this shit & we’ll get back to our sort of normal eventually.

  95. Way to many arseholes on the internet? Yes. Way too many cat pictures? NEVER. I think we should have a cat picture postathon in support! As I have learn’t myself this week Jenny, there are far too many people out there who take great pride in trying to bring everyone else down to their level and if it isn’t all about them, they kick and scream and throw their teddy out of the pram. So fuck em!! and post your cat pictures with pride, my friend. Big hugs. 🙂

  96. I think everyone’s sense of humor is broken right now. That tends to happen when your heart is broken, too. Those two things are connected. Not like “knee bone connected to the thigh bone” connected, but you know what I mean. I hope.

Everybody’s sense of humor will work again someday, it’s self-repairing. In the meantime, it’s okay to shake your fist at the world. And post cat pictures.

  97. Yeah, this past week has sort of been the shit, hasn’t it? Hopefully this week will be better. Hugs to you, Jenny.

  98. You’re perfect the way you are … and so are the cat picks. Haters just gonna hate … we don’t need them. Chin up … pics on! xoxoxo

  99. Kittens are for Pussies!

We have a cat called Molly, she is feral and eats birds as they pick the seeds under the bird table.

She has worms and sometimes sleeps and then shits in the Porch. I have been known to stand in the shit and walk it all around the house, ironically whilst Vacuuming.

I still feed her lamb bones when I have been making a stock.

I wish she would come in the house and be all nice to people, but she is a black cat who prefers to make that spitty noise when you go anywhere near her. I have had nice cats before, one was grey and slept on the tarmac and got killed, one was long haired and black and used to sleep on my daughters face when she was a baby. Oh and we had one cat run over who had to have a leg amputated at great expence, and then when we took him home from the vet he pissed on his wound and went mental, and ended kicking piss all over us in the car, we were going across a bridge at the time, it was not good for the cat or us.

Why do you get cute cat pictures, and I get piss and shit?

  100. I am writing this of my own free will, and under absolutely NO DURESS. My cat is DEFINITELY not dictating this while holding my sweater hostage.
Please post more photos of Hunter S Thomcat. Preferably full body shots. Many, many photos. Mrrrrroooowwwwwwwwwwwwww!!!
And there is definitely not a collage on the wall above Kitty’s pillow of Hunter’s previous photos. Unless he would think that was really cool. *ahem*
In conclusion, written by Fogwoman and definitely NOT the cat. Centerfold shots of Hunter S Thomcat!!
And keyboards that do not require thumbs.
    Thank you.

  101. No such thing as too many cat pics. Besides, the interwebs are made up of cats. But I’m sure there’s some corner of the interwebs the cat-haters can go.

  102. HEY! We just want more stories of your wine slushie fueled antics involving metal chickens! You remember when you put awesome stories about about big KNOCK KNOCK MUTHAFUCKA! obscenity spewing metal chickens? I do! But now its all about that damn kitten! Ya well, great you have a cat. The dog lovers are rebelling! You are losing a demographic here!!

  103. Oh, and that is mostly joking so please dont take it as me being a meanie head.

  104. After this week I look forward to more cat pictures, lol!! Seriously, thanks for bringing a bit humor back here and hope you are all doing well!!

  105. Risking a mob (I prefer the flash kind) I must admit, I’m a dog person.

    I don’t dig cat pics.

Why? A cat attacked me as a child and I’m one of those crazy cat-phobia people who should appear on Oprah, if she was still relevant.

But I dig your posts, your humor and your smart-assy-ness so I see your cat pics as “exposure therapy” (perhaps I learned that term on Oprah too? – yikes, that’s more frightening than cats) So, keep posting. *shudder* no, no, it’s ok. keep posting.

And, in all seriousness, sending you thoughts of peace in this hard time.

  106. And THAT is why there are so many cat pictures on the Internet. Because only a cat could tell me to fuck myself first thing in the morning and make me think it’s the most adorable thing I’ll hear all day.

  107. My weekend sucked also and very much in “life is not fiar” ways. I’d like to thank Chris the cat picture hater because I needed someone to be unreasonable mad at and it needed to be someone outside my world because we are all hurting. So, thank you Chris for having the worst timing for a pointless critical comment. I rolled my eyes and called you names, but it gave me a few minutes were I didn’t cry and because of your little rant Jenny replied, making me smile. Even though you meant to be a total jerk and darken our day, your plan backfired, and now we all have another picture of that adorable kitty to cheer us up.

  108. May this be the start of a better week. The Doctor quote is perfect… here’s another that might help:
“When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, ‘Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.’ To this day, especially in times of ‘disaster,’ I remember my mother’s words, and I am always comforted by realizing that there are still so many helpers – so many caring people in this world.” — Mister Rogers

  109. There will never be too many cat pictures. Though I could do with less shedding when dealing with the real thing.

  110. I think I’m about 98% sure there is no situation that can’t be solved with a good Doctor Who quote. “Nobody important? Blimey, that’s amazing. You know that in nine hundred years of time and space and I’ve never met anybody who wasn’t important before.”
Or, just if anyone needs cheersing up; “Oh then, what’s this? Big flashy lighty thing, that’s what brought me here! Big flashy lighty things have got me written all over them. Not actually. But give me time. And a crayon.”

  111. I have that Doctor Who quote hanging in my cubicle!!!! I love that one! Also, my 6 year old loves Doctor Who, and was running around the house acting like the Doctor fighting Daleks and Cybermen!

  112. PS MY weeks been pretty fucked up as well RE – my Grandama died. So sending you buckets of love, and instructions to track down the British TV Black Books. I think you’ll enjoy it.

  113. As far as I’m concerned, the entire year 2012 can go fuck itself. You should make that into a poster. I’d hang it on my front door.

  114. Actually, I think the internet is taken over with reincarnated Egyptians. And that’s why we worship cats.

I’m with you in spirit, Jenny.

  115. Like anything on the internet, if you don’t like it, don’t look at it or search for it. And really, who doesn’t love kittens??

  116. I’m not a cat person, but how can you not like a cat who says the fuck word. I needed a good laugh.

  117. I’m not a cat person, but I adore your cat pictures. HST is so photogenic, and he makes me laugh.

  118. I don’t believe there is such a thing as too many cat pictures. The best part of your blog is that you post the good and the bad. Sometimes all a person can do is share a picture of a cat, because that is what is getting them through the day. I think we have all had days like that, and sometimes it is nice to know we are not alone on those days.

  119. Firstly, there are NEVER too many cat pictures on the internet. Secondly, and more seriously, we cannot give in to the fear, sorrow and shock that seems so overwhelming at the moment. Here is what I keep telling myself, and eventually I will believe it. “Do not be afraid. Believe the world is still a good place with good people in it and that amazing things happen all the time.” Thirdly, you are human. Be easy on yourself – post whatever you want, how you want and when you want. We all love you no matter what you put on your site. 🙂 My three cents.

  120. Multiple PPPPs for the win.

Don’t worry, the majority of us are on the same page. Very rough week all-around. Cats help, as long as they’re not dressed like nuns. Just ask The Doctor…he can vouch for that.

  121. I just posed TWO cat pictures on the interwebz in celebration of this post…and my kitties. Shit is fucked up this week but I’m glad you are here. Sending you hugs and purrs – my cats say hi!

  122. I love everything about your blog. I love the silly stuff and the serious. It’s random and it’s life. It makes me feel less alone in my struggles with depression, and helps me to realize there is funny stuff everywhere. Please don’t change. Your blog is to express yourself, through the good and bad. I love your work!

  123. Last week was a fucked up week for sure. My best friend of 10 years pull a bitch move and said she didn’t want to be my friend anymore…Like we’re 12 or something. I’m 42 and she’s in her 50’s. W.T.F. ???? BAD

I had migraines all week (well for the last 20+ years). WORSE

Then the horror that happened to all of those children and adults ant that school. It was a terror in my heart that I hadn’t felt since 9/11. Then to read what happened to those children in China. And another mall shooting (luckily no one was killed) My heart broke into a million more pieces. DEVASTATING and HEARTBREAKING

I’ll take 24/7 TV of cat pictures if it means this bullshit stops. HST can host.

  124. There’s just no such thing as too many cat pics. Especially when they’re named Hunter S. Thomcat and Ferris Mewler. And if they’re posed doing embarassing things.

  125. Although you ARE allowed to poke holes in unwanted pictures, I suggest you print them out first. Otherwise it’s really hard on the laptop.

  126. If you say “There are too many cat pictures on the internet”, God intervenes and uploads 100 more. So, thank you person who said that, you’re kindly giving us more cat pictures to look at 🙂 Merry Christmas to you too!

  127. I told my husband about what’s been going on with your family this week, including the inconsiderate comment from the reader about the writing on your blog, ending with, “…and then the internet got all up in his shit.” My husband was on board right away. “Don’t you mess with our Bloggess, dude!” Jenny – we’ve got your back. 🙂

We also continue to send our love and support during this time of mourning for your friend.

  128. I wondered what you’d post this week. You did good. A belligerent kitten is the perfect symbol for sorting our emotions this week. A small, tiny, precious being telling the whole world to fuck off is just right. So, go get ’em, Fuck Off Kitty!

  129. Yeah, Jenny … this last week has sure had its low points. I’m sorry. Wish I could take you out for a cup of coffee someplace quiet and people-free and just commiserate. Thinking about you and hoping that things turn around for you. Keep your head up.

  130. Whoever doesn’t like the cat pics can go fuck themselves. Seriously, take your hate somewhere else.

My thoughts are with you, Jenny, as you deal with the death of your friend. I know it isn’t easy.

  131. I agree with Karen (#162). This whole year has been one big shit ball (I’m really tired of going to funerals). This holiday season has been especially hard. I’ve tried to make it normal and put on a brave face, but I feel like I’m just going through the motions and that everything is slowing breaking on the inside. The only thing keeping going has been reading this blog, Jenny’s book and tweets and especially the cat pictures. Plz mor with the cat pictures.

  132. Last week sucked. Hug your daughter. Snuggle your cat. Appreciate the good things in life like fish fingers and custard. The Doctor always makes it better for me!

  133. This was a perfect post. It’s so hard to be inspired to be funny when everything is just complete shit. And it’s hard to gauge how to be funny tastefully. Well done.

  134. First of all, it’s your blog. Post what you want. If people don’t like it, they don’t have to look. Second, cat pictures make me smile. We could also use more reasons to smile these days, so I say keep ’em coming!

    Sending good thoughts your way.

  135. Tis the end of the year…..solstice in 4 days. All the good days have been sucked up and there are only shitty days remaining. Rather like a large candy sampler. Nought but jelly filled poop drops under used paper wrappers. December 22! A NEW BOX ARRIVES! (CANDY DANCE) Bon chance petits

  136. Oh yes, Bugger those who hate cat pictures. Hitler hated cat pictures, well known fact that is. So does Dick Cheney. Says it all, really.

  137. That Doctor Who quote is one of my favorites. Also, this one: “900 years of time and space, and I’ve never met anyone who wasn’t important.” Funny where words with the most meaning come from, sometimes.

  138. I’m gonna agree with what the first poster said. The last couple of weeks have been awful for everyone I know, myself included. Just fuck that business.

  139. Hey Jenny,
This quote could not be more appropriate during times like these:
“Courage doesn’t always roar. sometimes courage is a little voice at the end of the day that says, “I’ll try again tomorrow.” – Mary Anne Radmore-Hershey
You are correct: suicide and depression are assholes. Hang in there, hug your babe and be thankful that you can post as many cat pictures as you fucking want and it honestly does not matter, one fucking bit what someone thinks about something so little.

  140. Too many cat photos on the internet? That’s like saying there are too many photos of people smiling.

Cat photos, and cats themselves are good for the soul.

  141. Orange Kitties with litle pink noses are the best kind of kitties to stab with fish forks?

  142. sorry you are having a shit week. as you know things are always temporary, so hang in there and snuggle with that cute kitty there 🙂

  143. I hate cats. But I like YOUR cats. They seem cooler than most cats. The ones I have been around have been hostile and mean. It’s the reason I own dogs. 🙂

  144. Here here! My internet needs more cat pics. Especially funny ones…and baby ones…and ones that make it ok to get up and go outside. Besides pictures that make you smile are totally proven to make you live longer (http://www.ted.com/talks/jane_mcgonigal_the_game_that_can_give_you_10_extra_years_of_life.html). Ok, so maybe I shouldn’t take Ted talks as proof of anything, but I don’t have time to look it up for myself, so I’m gonna…besides someone was mean to Jenny and cat pics so screw research I’m taking a stand.

So to sum up, by posting pics that make someone smile you are actually saving their life. (This would make sense if you had stopped to listen to the Ted talk.) Or at least giving them a tool to play super better with (https://www.superbetter.com/) which is totally the same thing. You’re like a rescue hero. But don’t be mad at people who hate on the cat pics…they won’t be around as long as us and we can laugh and enjoy our pics of cats for the rest of our extra long lives.

(FYI, making us laugh also makes our lives longer, so you may be responsible for overpopulation as well, but we can’t all be perfect.)

  145. I picked up your book again this weekend, and I swear by page 15, with the raccoons, I was laughing so hard I couldn’t breathe. You have/are such a gift. And now I must go look for more cat pictures on the interwebs.

  146. There can never be enough cat pictures in my opinion. They make me smile when I’m having a shitty day and they make me not feel like quite such a crazy cat lady as well!

  147. Oh, I love pictures of Hunter S. Thomcat. I was just thinking that we don’t see enough pictures of him and/or Ferris Mewler.

  148. What a fool those people are for thinking that they are looking at “just another cat pic”, Hunter S Thomcat is way way more than an average cat!!!

  149. Let’s just stop all the hating this week, whether it be cat pictures or anything else. Go hug your kids and do something kind for someone. I love all your posts, Jenny!

  150. This post has absolutely no snark. It reflects my feelings and I do not want to offend anyone. Feel free to skip it.

I am sorry for all of you who have lost a loved one recently. My heart and love go out to all of you.
This week was beyond horrible. I read and watched the news to learn as much as I could and have come away with the same thoughts that I have always believed. Imagining the terror of the children and parents and the teachers is beyond imagining. Compassion for the police officers, the first responders, ambulance drivers, ER personnel, medical examiners who received the bodies…they, too, will be haunted all their lives.
Hate has absolutely no place in this tragedy. Mental illness is very serious and especially the more complicated types such as schizophrenia, paranoia, sociopathic and psychotic persons. We need to recognize unusual symptoms and get those people to a hospital – with or without their permission. We need to ban all assault weapons, limit ammunition, ban gun sales at gun shows, require yearly gun safety programs. And know that the more we hate others, for whatever reason, is just perpetuating hatred. Yes, hate the act but not the person. Jenny, you have no mandate to make everyone smile every day. To the rest of us, it is not necessary to depend on someone else to make you smile. Do that for yourselves and don’t judge yourselves. Depending on someone else puts a tremendous burden on them and may pull them down into a downward spiral. Be kind to yourselves. I send much love to all – and to myself.

  151. Cats, dark humor, a stinging rebuttal to haters everywhere AND a quote from The Doctor?
    This post had EVERYTHING!
    Nice work, Bloggess!
P.S.: I suggest you post a cat picture EVERY DAY for the whole of 2013. That should really put certain haters in their place…

  152. That is by far one of my all time favorite Doctor Who quotes, it’s also completely true, also you are awesome and we love you even when you are broken. *super squishy hugs*

  153. These are not pictures of just any cat, these are pictures of Hunter S. Thomcat.
If anything we need more of those! They always, always put a smile on my face.

  154. People who don’t like cat pictures are clearly way more fucked up than you or me.
P.S. My Hubby just gave me your book for an early Christmas gift. SQUEE!

  155. When The Doctor picks up you for a spin, you have to tell me about the pool. Why is no one ever swimming – except River Song and I don’t think it counts if you are diving into from the roof of a building….

  156. The Doctor Who quote is perfect. And the Babylon 5 quote in comment 30. And the reminder of the Fred Rogers quote. All 3 make me feel better and I have saved them for future unquiet times.

  157. {{hugs}} being sent your way…not creepy cyber-hugs, but the nice kind…like I would be singing ‘soft kitty’ for you and getting you a warm beverage…OK, still sort of sounds creepy, sorry.

The interwebs is ALL about cat photo ops, really. And if anyone sends you hate mail it’s just cuz they don’t understand how the interwebs works, so just reply “because fuck you”. That seems to work in my world.

    PS~Tomorrow will be better.

  158. One can never have too many cat pictures and the dumb fuck who made that comment should get off the internet, whose prime purpose is to share cat pictures, food pictures, email and porn. Besides, you don’t just post cat pictures. We, your readers, also get treated to pics of dead ponies, screaming hamsters, winged pegasus, tiny aligators, sloths, and, of course, giant chickens.

Post on, Ms. Bloggess, Post on!

  159. Heather at 168;
“The internet was invented for cat pictures. And porn. But not together.”

Alas, you are sorely mistaken! Try looking for “indifferent cats in porn” (just not from your work computer). It’s exactly what it says it is and it’s sheer twisted genius…

Hugs to you Jenny, and to every single one of you wonderful people who are reading this comment. I love knowing there are so many strangers across the planet brought together in this place. So proud to be one of you.

  160. Lord, I thought it was just me. This week is weighing on me like a ton of rusty knives.

  161. Hey Doctor, have you ever had anxiety and depression because let me tell you…those fuckers really screw with reality. Bad things poison good things yet good things never seem to make bad things better.

Then suddenly the crap stops pouring in and you wonder why on Earth you ever thought that way in the first place. Tra-la-la, life is great.

  162. I think the problem is that we don’t have enough cat pictures on the internet…

  163. Sometimes it takes a picture of a cat telling you to, “go fuck yourself” to make you realize that life could be far worse than having to sit through one too many cat pics on the internet.

  164. @42 and Jenny: I find this poem helps when I remember to read it. (Insert ‘the universe’ for ‘God,’ as suits.)
    A Brief for the Defense
    by Jack Gilbert
Sorrow everywhere. Slaughter everywhere. If babies
are not starving someplace, they are starving
somewhere else. With flies in their nostrils.
But we enjoy our lives because that’s what God wants.
otherwise the mornings before summer dawn would not
be made so fine. The Bengal tiger would not
be fashioned so miraculously well. The poor women
at the fountain are laughing together between
the suffering they have known and the awfulness
in their future, smiling and laughing while somebody
in the village is very sick. There is laughter
every day in the terrible streets of Calcutta,
and the women laugh in the cages of Bombay.
If we deny our happiness, resist our satisfaction,
we lessen the importance of their deprivation.
We must risk delight. We can do without pleasure,
but not delight. Not enjoyment. We must have
the stubbornness to accept our gladness in the ruthless
furnace of this world. To make injustice the only
measure of our attention is to praise the Devil.
If the locomotive of the Lord runs us down,
we should give thanks that the end had magnitude.
We must admit there will be music despite everything.
We stand at the prow again of a small ship
anchored late at night in the tiny port
looking over to the sleeping island: the waterfront
is three shuttered cafes and one naked light burning.
To hear the faint sound of oars in the silence as a rowboat
comes slowly out and then goes back is truly worth
all the years of sorrow that are to come.

  165. @42 and Jenny: I find this poem helps when I remember to read it. (Replace “God” with “the universe,” as it suits you.)

  166. I’m giving you a Virtual *hug* because I feel shitty too…. And I figure we both need one. You’re amazing and so is your cat. *hug*

  167. Shit happens to us all in some measure, just look at the poor folk in Newtown CT. So your shit is really quite insignificant in the grand scheme of things xxxx

  168. As I sit here reading all these lovely comments, at the beginning of my winter vacation, so grateful that I don’t have to think about work for several weeks, but dealing with the shitstorm that is my mother, I am calmed by only two things: the wonderful pictures of Hunter, and the fact that I have my own beautiful ginger cat sleeping snugly on my lap. Jenny, your “But it is art?” installation totally cracked me up, to the point that I actually want a print of that to hang on my wall. The fact that Hunter looks almost exactly like Mushu McScratcherlot (my ginger) could be a big reason.
So who is this hater who thinks there are too many cat pics on the interwebz? Obviously some mental moral deviant who is not worth the dirt under our shoes. I hereby revoke their interweb priviledges.

  169. I can never have enough cat pictures. Sometimes the only thing that can cheer me up is a good lolcat. Whoever said there are “too many cat pictures on the internet,” as if that could ever actually be a real thing, I have only this to say to you: Is trolling the best thing you have to do with your time? Cats are amazing little brats. Now please leave and eat a dick. kthxbai

  170. I don’t comment often and you might not even see this comment among all the others, but I LOVE cat pics and Hunter S. Thomcat is one of the most photogenic and hilarious cats I’ve ever seen. I’d be heartbroken if you stopped posting pics of him.

  171. Fish forks not good.
    Okay, got it.

Are escargot forks out of the question as well?

yes there is such a thing. nope, never ate snails, and think poking any animal is cruel unless it is attacking you. In case of a shark attack, I advise a huge fork, like a pitchfork! Hope things are going better. Love all your posts.

  172. Sad Grandfather at @48:

I’m putting a virtual present under your very brave Christmas tree.
You can go ahead and open it now. Lift the lid and set it aside..

There is an inexhaustible supply of long quiet hugs and so much love that inly a virtual box could hold it all.

May you and yours get everything you need this holiday season…

  173. I find this to be a totally perfect quote for this week!! You are so right. This week has been a sad one. I love the Dr.Who quote. Perfect!! And continue to post cat pics. Please!! We are all cat lovers over here and luv it!

  174. My only problem with your cat photos is not enough Ferris. He’s got to be jealous of Hunter. I miss all the claws.

  175. May I respectfully request a card that says “My pussy says you can go fuck yourself!” with that photo. I have many, many people to hand it out to.

  176. My favourite Doctor quote is “I speak Horse. He’s called Susan, and he wants you to respect his life choices.”

    But yours is more appropriate.

There’s not ENOUGH cat pictures on the internet. Cats are an anomaly. Everything in life has its good side and its bad side. Everything has pros and cons – except cats. Cats are unmitigated awesome. Warm, furry, purry, mewy, pawy, licky, loving awesome.

  177. People who are offended by the word “fuck” can go fuck themselves. Life is too short not to appreciate cat pictures. Hunter rocks.

  178. I would rather look at cat pictures any day of the week than what we have all had to look at this week. I come to you for kitties, taxidermy, and quirkiness. It’s okay to deal with the darkness of the world via humor….and to post a shitload of cat pictures.

  179. I’m sorry, but when you have a cat as awesome as HST it is a crime against the internets NOT to put images out there. I say MORE cat pics. MORE, DAMN YOU!

  180. Plus, if more people would spend time on the internets looking a lolcats they’d be too happy to be out doing fucked up shit to the rest of the world. There, empirical evidence that cat pics on the internets are good for world peace.

  181. You post as many fucking cat pictures as you want, girl. Just go the fuck ahead. Do what you gotta do.

  182. I was waiting for your words after the tragedy at Newtown…especially since you have a beautiful young daughter to treasure and cherish. After teaching for 34 years, I was devastated by the desecration of what I consider to be the magic of a learning community. I was horrified to read facebook and twitter posts encouraging ‘all teachers’ to be armed and ‘ready to kill’ –
I am only capable of a few human manifestations… I can love, nurture, cherish, lead, trust, and guide any child – BUT – I cannot come into the classroom with a loaded gun ready to KILL SOMEONE!!!
Thank you for reaching out with your words once again – they give me solace.

  183. Please post more cat photos, or don’t, we love you either way.

Your blog helps me get through really tough days at work. I work in a public library where I deal with drunks, druggies, and assholes on an hourly basis. Today I felt like crying, and at one point had to hide in our back room in order to keep a looming panic attack at bay. After returning to work I did two things 1st, look at your blog; 2nd look at more cat photos until I felt calm and reasonable.

People who write you hate mail can fuck off. Or, I could stab them with fish forks if that’d make you feel better.

  184. It was with relief that I saw your cat told me to go fuck myself. Honestly, it was exactly what I needed. Not the fucking per se, but the cat degradation.

  185. Way to summarize Doctor Who! “Shit’s fucked up this week.” In re: the cat’s excellent point, I’m starting to apply that line more and more these days. It’s like a panacea, except it doesn’t cure anything except for non-blue air color.

  186. I always kind of just thought it was me that thought there was an amazing amount of cat stuff (pics, videos, etc) on the Internet, but then I went to a conference thrown by Google last fall for those of us that volunteer for them on their help forums and they had two presentations that were nothing but cat pics and video and jokes were made how YouTube is completely funded by cats…I personally am addicted to Maru.

So, no cat hate from me!!

  187. Great pic. good sentiment – my condolences to you all for the terrible loss this week. Hug your children close and then let them run again – be courageous. Enjoy the festivities and the families …….and the cats. For everyone’s sake, in everyone’s memories. And Kathy (261), you stick to your principles! My thoughts go out to all teachers in the USA and everywhere else.

  188. Jenny – this week sucked so hard that it was hard to breathe at times. I find myself bewildered by the pain involved, and I am the furthest from anybody from what happened. Nothing helped it, really. I could only take the news for a few minutes at a time before it would all hit me again. I have itching powder in my soul.

But I find it weird and wonderful that coming here and reading Hunter S. Thomcat saying “Go Fuck Yourself” would make me feel better. And yet I’ve come here about six times just to read that. Even his little face ‘saying’ it.

  189. I’ll give you the only advice that has ever comforted me when shit got real. Hang, the fuck, in there.
My diabetic feline bundle of joy gets me through many hardships. Last night I made a vest out of wrapping paper and watched him torpedo around the house just because I had an annoying day and he was having a blast. Post pictures, make t-shirt, wrap your car…who cares as long as it makes YOU happy.

If there was an option to attach a photo, I’d post 5 of Leo. Since I can’t you can see him on my blog drinking water out of the Christmas tree.

  190. Love It Love It !!
Thanks Jen and Hunter. I really needed this, it made me laugh. This is better than my sister’s lighted Christmas cow dying,& her replacing it with a Christmas light up pig !

  191. We need MORE cat pics on the internet. Especially handsome boys like HST, who is nearly as good looking as my ginger boy Moses.
And anyone who stabs a cat with a fishfork – I will personally stab them somewhere really painful.

  192. Jenny – Sorry you are having a shitty week, but this may bring a small ray of sunshine: Walmart.com carries a TALKING TARDIS COOKIE JAR!!!!!! OMFG, it is sooooooo cool. Love and Merry Christmas!

  193. Although I’m a writer, I must say this: both the cats at the top of your blog today are doing way too much reading. They need to stop reading poetry and take a walk.

  194. If people complain about your cats, obviously they suck and don’t need to follow you and your awesomeness.

  195. I know you’re an athiest, but I prayed for you this week. After spending Friday in tears, I tried amusing myself with the internet, and immediately knew there wouldn’t be a funny post from you. So I prayed for you specifically and others with depression in general to not spiral into depression & hopelessness after such a tragic event. Of course, I prayed lots more for the families in CT, but I wanted you to know that I prayed for your well-being this week, Jenny. Here’s to a better week to come.

  196. From another doctor, Dr. John, “One day you’re on top of the world, and the next day the world’s on top of you. That’s life.” Cat pics help, more, please.

  197. No please. Post MORE pictures of your cat. They are all so unique and interesting.

(that was someone else’s tweet, which I happily retweeted lol) I’m a DOG and CHICKEN person that posts too many photos of both so I’m not really one to talk.

  198. My son and I have been watching Dr. Who together and we *just* watched the Van Gogh episode last night. So wonderful…the quote, and the look on Vincent’s face when he realized the way his art moved people. If only we could all have that experience of just for a moment really understanding how extraordinary our tiny sphere of influence could be….

  199. BTW, I live in MN. We had the worlds first ever Internet Cat Video film festival his summer. It was wildly successful. Yet more proof cats rule the internets.

  200. Got a magnet on my fridge that says “People who don’t like cats were probably mice in a former life.” Love cat pics! Keep ’em coming. I got another one that says, “Love me, love my cat.”

(I think I may be one of those crazy cat ladies down the road, but whatever.)

  201. Years ago, someone told dooce the same sort of thing. “Too many pictures of your dog!” So what did she do? Started posting daily photos of her dog.

I sort of hope this spurs you on to post moaaar catttt picccccctures.

  202. I love the cat pictures. I wish there were more cat pictures…especially of hunter s tomcat because he is adorable. Cat picture posts every day…no! TWO Cat picture posts per day!!!!!

  203. I really needed to hear/read that quote. These past few weeks have been horrible. Thanks.

  204. No. I disagree, there’s aren’t too many cat pictures. There aren’t enough cat pictures. Cats haven’t stopped coming up with crazy new shit to do.

It’s been said that there are no more new ideas, nothing new can be written or photographed that is truly unique. This is why I fully support any cat writers/directors/cinematographers/artists out there. Ok, there aren’t many. But there should be! Those furry little fuckers are inventive!

    More cats need thumb-free technology.

  205. hell with folks who don’t like hunter s.! my daughter had a spastic cat who looked just like him! biddles lives! he had a leg torn off by a racoon because he was toofucked upto climb a tree. she was devastated when he died….the resemblance is more than uncanny love the cat’s name. love the pictures. love you!

  206. I have to say that, YES, yes I can stab them with fish forks, or rather A fish fork. Someone gave my son a lovely ocean-themed set of toddler silverware at my baby shower and the only piece left is the fish fork!
I am new to your blog but l,Ove it! I also just bought the Kindle version of your book and it has me l,auguring. Thank you for the funnies and I’m so sorry that you lost such a good friend. I lost someone to suicides, too, and it is such a heartbreaking thing to face.
PS-I had live raccoons in my house as a child, too!

  207. Love this post. It speaks to me as a cat lover and advocate of cute cat pictures/videos. I’m so putting this on my facebook page as a big F.U. to those who mock me.

  208. My favorite Doctor Who quotation! I’m sure all the hundreds of comments said that, but I still think it matters.

Also, it’s okay to be sad. And I like your pictures of cats moreso than I like a lot of pictures of cats on the internet. I would never stab them with a fork.
