Y’ALL.
This Saturday is INDEPENDENT BOOKSTORE DAY and Nowhere Bookshop is cordially inviting you to come and visit and celebrate with us. (There’s extra parking behind the store if needed.)
Why should you come?
First off, there will be a golden ticket hidden somewhere in the store on Saturday and the first lucky person who finds it will win a year’s worth of audiobooks from Libro.fm. “Do audiobooks count as real books?” YES THEY FUCKING DO.

Stop at our bar and cafe for cupcakes and snacks and we’ll also be making our special sparkly lavender lemonade and pink prosecco rosé.
Exclusive book merch is available Saturday (including the blackwing pencils which I don’t know what those are but people are very excited about them?):

And cool in-store giveaways:

And I had 75 of my drawings printed up (double-sided) on heavy card stock that I’m signing and tucking into my books on the shelf.

They look fuzzy in the image because I suck at taking pictures but I assure you, they’re pristine and gorgeous. If there are any left over I’ll tuck them into book orders that come through online.
In fact, we going to be tucking little surprises into any orders that come in from our website this weekend because I know we have friends and fans all over who can’t make it. So maybe you’ll get a Nowhere medal or sticker or magnet or an advance copy of a book we’re excited about. WHO THE HELL KNOWS? IT’S CHAOS. (And you can order personalized copies of my book here and I will happily implicate you in a crime or draw a picture of a giant metal chicken in your book, if requested. We mail all over the world.)
AND we’re going to give one lucky person who signs up to be a new subscriber to one of our book clubs on this weekend 6 months free! (Do you know about our book clubs where we send you books right to your house? There’s Fantastic Strangelings (weird and wonderful), Nightmares from Nowhere (horror), Happy Endings (romance) and the Little Bitty Book Club (picture books). I pick the books for the first two and I apologize in advance for the weird emails you’ll be getting from me. I think we also need to start a YA bookclub and a graphic novel bookclub too but that’s all in the future. Or a manga book club. OR A WITCHY BOOKCLUB. Sorry. I’ll stop. I got overwhelmed.) Click here to join us or find out more about our clubs.
Come see us!
PS. If you see me, don’t ever be afraid to say hi. I fact, always say hi unless I’m actively peeing or crying. Basically if no liquids are coming out of me you should say hi. Also, I have a hearing problem and ADHD so feel free to throw something at me if I seem like I didn’t hear you. Something soft, I mean. Not like a chair or a drink. Unless it’s really necessary. Use your best judgement.
PPS. If the cat/possum drawing is too small for you you can order a bigger size on the same heavy card stock right here.
PPPS. If you’re not in San Antonio go check out your local indie bookstore because there are celebrations happening all around the world on Saturday and it can be hard out there for an indie bookshop these days. Your support keeps us all going. Because of you we’ve been able to make a safe and welcoming place for people to gather and read and learn and grow. I’m so lucky I get to be a part of it. Thank you.

Would love to be there Jenny but I live in Canada lol. Best wishes for the celebration tho!
My bestie and I are coming to visit the bookshop on Saturday! We didn’t know it was Independent Bookstore day when we chose the weekend, so we are pumped!!!
Sign me up for the graphic novel, manga, and witchy book clubs!!!!
(Right?? ~ Jenny)
We had so much fun doing this in the Chicago area last year. If you get your passport stamped at 10 of the participating bookstores, you get 10% off at any purchases at participating bookstores for the rest of the year! If you make it to 15, you get 15% off! We got a small group together and managed to make it to 10, so we each got a special enamel pin and a card showing the discount (since some of the stores ran out of pins). We started on the far south side and worked our way north through the city to finish up at the furthest north ones that were still in the city.
Not physically up to it this year, but hope to take part in the future.
Um, hold my calls while I check airfare.
I will visit my local independent bookstore in honor of all book lovers, book writers and booksellers everywhere!
I wish I could visit your store, I hope it’s a huge success for you and your booksellers.
I would give just about anything to be able to be there this weekend! I’m about 8 hours from San Antonio and it’s just not on the cards right now, but one of these days… And I did wonder if I would have the guts to say hi, because I’m afraid of I did, I would break down and end up crying and making an absolutely spectacle of myself, but maybe I wouldn’t be the first… ? Anyway, I adore you and I really hope I can get there someday soon. Hugs and more hugs!!
(Always say hi! Even if it’s just a wave. And crying is absolutely allowed. ~ Jenny)
I read “Stop at our bar” as “Strip at our bar” and it didn’t even seem weird.
(Hell yeah hun. Get your tits out. – but maybe don’t really ~ Jenny)
I am not in San Antonio, but I am never far from a device through which I can order books. Just don’t tell my husband that I have TWO favorite indie bookstores (this one: https://fablehollow.com/ and YOURS) because he will never financially recover, and I need for him to not know.
A WITCHY BOOK CLUB??? Are you even serious? I would totally be in on that!
I’m volunteering at Verbatim Books (used bookstore, but still independent af!) in San Diego to help with our pop-up table for Canterbury Classics. San Diego is also doing a book crawl this weekend — very excited for all of that. 🙂 Yay for Independent Bookstore Day! Someday I swear I will make it to San Antonio to see Nowhere. Love your shop!
I got a pack of the cards you made to go along with Broken at independent book store day 2021 and I love them just as much now as i did then.
Ohhh, WordPress. Why do you taunt me by making all my comments anonymous and then hide where to sign in? So unfair.
I don’t live in your area but I put together a six-shop bookstore crawl on Saturday and invited my friends. I’m super excited about it!
This weekend is ALL about the books! I’m way away in PA but friends and I are doing an indie book crawl on Saturday and then I’m dragging one of my book clubs to my favorite yearly used book sale on Sunday (It’s amazing and huge and all of the proceeds go to scholarships for women!)
I will be driving nearly an hour to get to my closest participating store. Wish I were near y’all this weekend!
I also hope you’ll have those blackwings available online also!! I would love to toss in pretty pencils with my book order in Saturday!
I just bought some Blackwing pencils and they are worth the hype. I’m an illustrator and these are the smoothest and richest graphite I have ever used. I’m hooked.
Wish I could be there, but I don’t travel well.
OMG Jennie, only you could make me wish I lived in Texas!
I can’t BE there, however I think it’s totally fucking AMAZING that you have an independent bookstore. It’s the kind of thing that I, as a writer/author/creator thinks it’s worth it to get an ISBIN
My reaction upon reading this was as if I received an invitation from a real life friend (I quietly said yay at the screen), and then soon I was like a pouty kid who dropped their ice cream cone when I realized I couldn’t go.
Some of my health challenges will be behind me though later this year (having surgery next week) and then I’ll be able to actually live like most people do…do fun things, travel, etc! Sending in my absence the spirit of joyful muppet flailing and good vibes!
Also thanks for the tip about the zowie wowie graphite pencils…might have to add to my Smaug dragon’s hoard of art supplies 😂.. and maybe a book or two for “recovery reading” purposes of course. 😉 I can hear my husband’s voice now saying, “But you already HAVE drawing pencils… and you don’t need anymore books!” Lol.
Would love to, but I livenä in Helsinki Finland, so I throw something at you in my dreams…something soft like a kitten, but so that you can catch it also softly and held it and forget that you have responsibilities in your bookshop…
So like I thought “Cool, a thing at a bookstore!” but I thought it a little rude to call out the whole state to get our asses there. Roanoke is a little far away, but like you didn’t get on folks from Ohio, and then I got that it was a saying and I’m shutting up now………
(Ha! In your defense, it was an incredibly old reference. ~ Jenny)
Would love to see a memoir book club too because that’s my current obsession.
Fuck, I don’t want to be anonymous. Oh well. One of the anonymous comments is me. But I’ll chaotically not disclose which one. 🫠🤷🏼♀️
I would go hard on a Witchy Book Club. Have you read The Wizard’s Guide to Defensive Baking? That’s my jam, pun intended.
I
Hah..first anonymous and then I posted just: I. But I’m the anonymous 20. from Finland 😉
I read the subject line and got excited ’cause I thought you were coming to Virginia! I was psyching myself up to come out and waive ‘hello’ from the outskirts of the crowd!
DYK That we have here are O’Possums, which are native to the Americas? Possums are native to Australia and the surrounding areas.
We, the O’Connells say “Bring Back the O” and our modern family crests will feature an opossum instead of the stag.
Happy Independence Day.
Luv,
Mike G
I really hope life is easing up for you. You are sunshine on cloudy days. You help all of us on our darkest days, even when you share that it’s just too rough a day to post.
Ahhhhh! I’m in Hawaii and don’t calculate the time zone correctly but I intended to celebrate independent book store day with you!!!
Would love to be there Jenny but I live in Canada lol. Best wishes for the celebration tho! For online jobs click here….
