Well as long as it’s convenient

We had blackouts in our neighborhood every few hours the past few days and so when it all came back on yesterday I spent hours trying to reset everything in the house to get the internet to come back up because Victor is out of town and whenever he leaves things stop working properly and I become accidentally Amish almost immediately. I finally got my computer to work again and decided that I guess I can just live without tv and then I found this on my door this morning.

*sigh*

  1. At least they gave you notice. Where I live it just happens whenever, without notice. I never know when I can count on having power. No wonder my washing machine has lost its mind. It washed a load for four and a half hours the other day—and that was without a power outage!

  2. I read that wavy paper note in alternating caps Spongebob font voice, and I’m not convinced I was wrong to do so.

  3. what is WRONG with these people? are they testing a big new on/off switch? don’t they know now that they got their way and made life impossible without them, that means no days (or hours) “off” for eternity???

  4. I feel like you’re experiencing a modern horror movie. Just when you thought you were safe…

  5. This usually happens to us when we’ve just spent $250 on groceries. I put painters tape and yellow CAUTION tape around my frig and hope for the best; the milk gets dumped automatically when the power returns. In the meantime, I feel like some kind of reluctant 1800s pioneer woman. I try to have fun with it but it never works.

  6. lol… I just thought of something. When you do turn Amish like a sort of proto-lycanthropic-anabaptismal-electrophobiopic citizen. You might gain the superpower to create a working pneumatic taxidermal appliance!

  7. Wow, they left you a note to let you know? My internet and cable company don’t tell anyone, so you don’t know until it stops working and you call them to complain, and then you get an automated message about the outage.

  8. I was recently on a RV road trip and my fridge has been going out for over a year. Had in to fix at two different places with no luck. Was driving through a place that had a 5 star rated RV fridge shop…. and every single person working there was Amish. Not even kidding, the workers were being dropped off in buggies. And they fixed my fridge better than all the “English” had. Point being- Amish may be able to fix your computer woes. Accidentally Amish could work in your favor….

  9. Do they want you to live in the dark ages?! Because that’s how people lived in the dark ages!

  10. Hey, I can barely use a landline phone. Then my ass or elbow touches the TV remote and I end up in tears trying to turn off what I inadvertently turned on. Maybe I am just a cretin (no disrespect to those of you from Crete) but I belong in a time where TV remotes had actual wires running to the TV. Don’t even ask about Southern California Edison and their power shutoffs. In. Palm. Springs. In. June. Laughing seems to help, though.

  11. Good ol’Texas Ercot already warning that we will have outages and it’s not even summer.

  12. I always wonder what about the people who work from home?! Or go to school online?! I figure as long as my external batter banks are charged, my phone can hot spot… I’ll be okay. Maybe. Though being able to hot spot 5G would be nice.

  13. It’s Texas. We have that great grid everyone wants. The Lone Star State with the One Star grid.

  14. Ah…poor bunny. Seriously, here’s a virtual hug!🤗 Every time my husband travels (usually overseas) something goes wrong. Usually a tree will fall in the yard; so far harmless. But the power may go out or the tv breaks or the internet goes out, and on and on. Why?

  15. I used to live on a windy island where trees would fall down on power lines, and the entire emergency crew lived on a different island. Took hours/days to get them over to find the offending tree and fix our power. Honestly, when they were done the locals would go outside, give them a standing ovation, and hand out coffee and cookies.

  16. Do you have a natural gas connection to your house? After that nasty freeze two years ago we elected to get a natural gas generator that will power our whole house, even air conditioning in the summer (because in the Houston area you never know when there will be another hurricane and I don’t like hot or cold). We’ve only needed it once but it just gives me the warm fuzzies knowing we will be the most popular place in the neighborhood if anything happens

  17. Maybe you’re supposed to pick the date that works for you and circle it? Worth a try.

  18. At my house it’s the water and we don’t ever get notices. So far I haven’t been caught with purple and blue dye in my hair needing rinsing but it’s just a matter of time.

  19. Well at least they give a hour break to enjoy power. lol. But seriously as you said in your first book, its better then having your arm inside of a cow’s vagina

  20. I wonder what would happen if we sent an itemized log of times supposedly paid-for service was not available, and deducted a pro-rated amount from the payment for their bill (along with an itemized bill for one’s own hours, for anyone who works from home and needs electrical service to do that work)? Might be something a bored and hungry lawyer could get interested in.

  21. Accidentally Amish sounds like a perfect title for a book. Just sayin’. 😉

  22. It’s because of all the lights on your year-round skeleton! In fact, whenever the power goes out, I think I’ll just blame it on your skeleton taking down the Texas grid. 😜 *shakes fist at sky*

  23. Holy crap, people would lose their shit here if outages were that common! My hubs and I are retired from the electric company, and outages were an emergency, no matter when they happened. The company tried hard to avoid bad press about an outage, so Herculean efforts were required of everyone.

  24. Apparently Victor and I have the same superpower. Every time I travel something goes wonky at home!

  25. I have an Uninterruptable Power Supply keeping the internet up when the power goes down. Over the years, it has morphed into 3 different ones only one of which is backed up by the Generac so when the power goes out and the Generac fires up, two of the three are running on battery and continually beeping. I have to run extension cords from the powered outlet to both UPS devices to get them to STFU. But at least it stays up.

  26. I feel your pain. Identify the things that are REALLY hard to reset (like the router) and plug them into one of these: https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-Standby-UPS-400VA-Outlets/dp/B073Q48Z95/ref=sr_1_1_ffob_sspa?crid=2JJ6CQCXFCXHH&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.FKVOPUWPmP2muj4t35-Nd9dqRKaM5BToefI2Dj8zQZ93jDHlh0uwHwqMbNrtLESdOsoZycwQjhEYTd9qAunr13fHIBXjJn-wGsdm1xXct5WZs0yNGUSIfeYN7kJTAUL164cUHVNuUBTxZj6vclKDBFlfekq96BP4LYVze7ZpCOwpFG0spMDQhjOrQqfc4LI2eXbBEGlX0VJKz_SvV34o5fCRdPTHuwZggKzCjZahTYQ.2JFEYpNpfuBc6DGYej3TwycG0dPmL35i_9VdGPoFSE4&dib_tag=se&keywords=portable%2BUPS&qid=1715087968&sprefix=portable%2Bups%2Caps%2C116&sr=8-1-spons&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9hdGY&th=1 There are bigger and more fancy versions but since you will need multiple, I went with the most inexpensive. This will in most cases, help prevent you from having to reset things during the blackout BUT you cant do things like watch TV during the blackout.

  27. This reminds of when the post office moved our mailbox location and the only reason I found out was because I saw the construction crew pulling it down. I called and they “investigated” and called me back a day later to confirm the mailbox had indeed moved and where I could find it. Went to get my mail the next day at the new location and in the mailbox was a letter informing me that the mailbox would be moved and you can find it at the new location.

  28. I can do you one better – a couple months or so ago the city was replacing the big water pipes. But I don’t follow the news at all (stresses my already-too-stressed-out self up even more), and apparently the management for my complex doesn’t bother to pay attention either, so we had zero advanced notice that our water was going to be shut off. Wanna know how I found out? IN THE MIDDLE OF MY SHOWER. Thankfully I had already washed my hair and had only just started sudsing myself up, and also had a wet washcloth to get that off. 0 out of 10, would not recommend 🥴
